  1. If you have had pierced ears for more than a year they won't grow back, the hole stays so don't worry about them closing up. I don't wear my earrings around the house because my birds would either pull them out or damage them beyond repair, gold is a soft metal and their beaks makes them useless to wear as jewelry.
  2. Thats a good one, "Parrot Maternity Leave" I will have to remember that one to use in the future:laugh:
  3. Well it is probably bothering him, they are vain creatures, they like having all their feathers in place and when one is out of place it feels unnatural but he will remove it eventually, just don't make a big deal with it or he might get the idea its entertainment.
  4. Thats great news Michael and I would say that Gregory is a sure bet now that you have passed the home visit, do you know how soon this could be? I am so excited for you and won't this be like an early Christmas present, keep us informed and add pictures when you can.:cheer:

  6. Kevin, just leave it and allow him to pull it out himself, if you go and clip it then it may annoy him more, this happens all the time and they either put it back in place or pull it out themselves.
  7. This is sounding sort of weird, you may be right but I hope not but sometimes that gut feeling is not to be ignored, keep us posted Penny.
  8. They do look a little bigger than my Josey's do but if everything else is normal then I am sure he is fine but you can always ease your mind by giving your avian vet a call. Have you checked out the article on posting photos in the FAQ section, it may help you.
  9. danmcq wrote: Thanks Dan for reposting this for us to enjoy another year, I loved it then and love it now, it is so appropriate. Dave really is the "Guru of all Guru's" here on this forum, he has helped so many with his straight up advice, he tells it like it is and we are all so lucky to have him here and I am truly blessed to call him one of my best friends.
  10. If it is indeed bone sticking out then he needs to be checked out by an avian vet ASAP and that probably explains why he doesn't want you to touch him. Please do let us know what you find out and don't stay away so long for we have missed you.
  11. Thanks Carolyn and I plan on spending it with my family, we are gathering at my daughter's house for the turkey with all the trimmings. I would like to wish a Happy and Safe Thanksgiving to all the American members of this forum, we do have a lot to be thankful for. I know I am thankful for the pleasure of everyone's company here on greyforums.
  12. I have included a link to a thread that has some ideas on how to potty train your grey, you might have to overlook some off topic chatter but otherwise it has some good info for you. Some greys are easier to teach than others, some don't want to go potty in their cage and others like mine don't really care where they go, if they have to poo they are gonna drop it wherever it lands. I have had some success with training my Josey to go in a trashcan, she rarely ever poops on me anymore but most anything else is fair game. But remember that even if you succeed in training your grey to poop on command or go a certain place they will still have accidents from time to time, its not a 100% thing. http://www.greyforums.net/forums/training/109-potty-training.html#109
  13. So this is going to take a while, darn it, thanks for letting us know Penny, now go and start cooking that Thanksgiving dinner.
  14. There are no stupid questions Liz so do not be afraid to ask any question you have, I have been known to give a stupid answer but hopefully they are few and far between and if I do Dave quickly corrects me:blush:  :cheer:
  15. Penny have you heard anymore about whether you will get Rocky or not, inquiring minds want to know:whistle:  :cheer:
  16. Josey would be the one doing the best wolf whistle and saying kissy kissy or maybe "shut up"
  17. Adorable little babies, I just want to grab them up and squeeze them tight, you are obviously taking very good care of them Jen, thanks for updating the pics for us.
  18. That looks nice Caroline, the rope in your net is not as big as the one I have and haven't put up yet, I know your 3 are going to love playing around on that net, thanks for sharing the pics with us. Love that cheeky monkey!!!
  19. Well just remember they pick up on our emotions so if you are nervous or are too curious about his tail he might think something is wrong.
  20. Just leave it, Malibu will pull it out when he gets ready to or it will fall out on its own when he molts. And quit fooling with it or he will get the idea that something is amiss, just ignore it basically.
  21. How clever you are and Gracie is so lucky to have someone who is so handy at making things for her, thanks for sharing them with us.
  22. If you don't provide him with any other food and water than what is in his cage he will go in of his own accord when he either gets hungry or thirsty. Then again if caterwauling drives him in also you can go that route, might be quicker:laugh: :woohoo: :woohoo:
  23. What wonderful pictures Dave of one of my favorite little birds, the photos are deceiving except for the last one with the penny to show how tiny. They are amazing little creatures and I enjoy them every spring and summer, thanks for sharing those with us.
  24. He is beautiful and looks like a real sweetheart, the colors are iridescent looking, very becoming, thanks for sharing him with us.
  25. I am so glad to hear your grey loves water, wish mine did, but yes you can use aloe vera juice with the water or by itself, it is harmless to them and it makes the feathers softer and their skin more supple. I use it on Josey all the time, be sure to get under the wings.
