  1. Oh difinitely turn it off as she only needs that for a few hours during the day. You are talking about a full spectrum light aren't you?
  2. Lola is a lovely name. You can count on it Mark, just be patient with her, it takes time for them to come to trust us and don't be disappointed if it doesn't happen very quickly as greys are by nature very cautious and leery of anything new. The main thing is don't force anything, let her go at her own pace, she will decide when she will allow more with you but so far you are doing fine.
  3. We are glad to have you here Mark and bringing a new grey into the home is exciting for the whole family, should be the start of a long and happy relationship. Have you thought about any names yet?
  4. Hello Mark and welcome to the family, so glad you found us and we look forward to hearing more about you and your new grey. Have you named her yet? Congrats on getting your first grey, you have taken the first step into enriching your life with a wonderful companion, a lifetime committment that will pay big dividends for your effort and love. You will learn much from reading thru our many threads, they are packed with useful information and I encourage you to ask questions, no matter how trivial or silly they may sound and we will help you in any way we can. If you have any pictures of your grey would you share some with us as we would love to see her.
  5. If you don't want your grey on your shoulder it requires some diligence on your part to keep her from going up there. As soon as she is on your arm you will have to keep the other arm ready to cut her off at the pass and continue with each arm until she realizes that she can't get up there. You might have to continue this for quite some time before she learns she will not be allowed up there. It does sound like she is trusting you if she falls asleep in your lap so you must be doing something right, keep up the good work.
  6. Well congrats on bringing Gregory home already, they knew a good thing when they saw it, he looks like he is starting to settle in, he looks nice and this will be the start of a long and loving relationship. Keep us updated on his progress and be sure to let us know if you need anything as one of us is just a click away.:cheer:
  7. I too have a sun conure and I know exactly what you mean, she can be demanding and she wants to stay on my shoulder all the time and wants to get into everything I am doing. Feisty she can be, if she gets a hold of something you better be prepared to get bitten if you try to take it away from her, she can get downright nasty but then the next minute she is all lovey dovey, she drives me nuts but I love her to death.
  8. That one has been around for a while and posted on here more than once but thanks for sharing it with us, it is still funny to see.
  9. Ohhh that does look nasty but glad you got it taken care of, yes things like that can make a grown man cry but now he is stitched up and on his way to healing up nicely, thanks for letting us know and do stop in more often as we have missed you so much.
  10. What difference does it make if you believe that all bird breeding should be banned?
  11. My Josey is female and is bonded to me and like the others have said they choose who their favorites are and it has nothing to do with gender. Why don't you tell us a little about yourself and whether or not you have a grey or getting one?
  12. Hello Renee and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Qwynn. You do have quite a flock going with a wide assortment of birds and I can imagine they keep you on your toes allright, thats a lot of poop. You certainly came to the right place as we are all bird lovers here and most of us are nuts about our greys, there is nothing like them and they are as dear to us as our own human children. You will find lots of useful information in our many threads and some good stories that others have shared with us so browse thru them at your leisure and do ask any and all questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. I see you have a picture of Qwynn in your avatar but if you have some others you would share with us we would love to see them.
  13. Congrats Marius on Ash being a boy, a good looking one at that. B)
  14. This is typical grey behavior, they get mad at their toys and bang them around a bit, just ignore it as they all do this from time to time. If you don't already have a large bell in his cage I would suggest you get one, they love nothing better than to attack it like it was something to be mad at and try to destroy.
  15. He probably is Nims, seeing those feathers at the bottom of the cage is usually a sure tell sign and especially if you don't see any places chewed off of the feather shaft. Sorry that no one answered when you posted the original question, must have gotten lost in the shuffle because we usually are quick to give some answers.
  16. Hello Empera and welcome to the family, so glad you could finally join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and your new grey. Well you certainly have some experience with greys if your boyfriend has two and I hope you are truly responsible because a grey is a lifetime committment and you need to be sure that is really what you want. I am sorry to hear of your depression but hopefully the meds you are on will help you with that and yes animals do help people with depression, they lift our spirits and give us someone else to think of and care for. You already know we have lots of useful information in our many threads so continue to read thru them and do not hesitate to ask any and all questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. I know the two greys of your boyfriends is not yours but we would love to see a picture of them if you have any and would share one with us.
  17. I am glad you took her Heather and she enjoyed herself along with everyone else, this will help make her more socialable, besides she wanted to be with her flock, even her extended flock, thanks for letting us know she did just fine as I knew she would.
  18. Me too, got bird cages to clean, tidy up the house for I have the girls tonight while their Mom and Dad go out for a while. I am also starting to do some packing for my upcoming trip to Disney World next week, I can't wait.
  19. Hello SPTN and welcome to the family, so glad you could finally join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and this new grey you want to get. You are doing the right thing in researching before actually making the plunge to get a grey, they are a lifetime committment and you need to know that one will fit in with your lifestyle and that you can provide what the bird needs to be happy and healthy. I second Dan's recommendation of looking for a local breeder, that way you can actually see the bird and maybe have more than one to choose from and maybe one will be more responsive to you than the others. It is always best to be able to visit and interact with the baby before it is weaned and you can bring it home. You will find lots of useful information in our many threads so do read thru them at your leisure and do not hesitate to ask any and all questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. What part of Virginia did you come from originally as I am from Virginia myself in Botetourt County.
  20. Thanks so much Dave for the compliment, this is what we strive to do and looks like we are succeeding in making new members feel right at home for they have joined a family, our family here and each and every one is special to us. No one understands us better than others just like us, parrot lovers and especially grey lovers are a special breed of people, the moment you join us you are part of a special group that cares for our birdies and one another. We do have some very knowledgeable members here who share what they know with us and are willing to help one another with their problems.
  21. Thats great Margerite and Happy Hatchday Dorian. Having that file answers some questions for you but at least you now know his hatchday so you can celebrate it with him every year. Thanks for letting us know and keep the updates coming.
  22. You can use a regular nail file to trim them but the best thing is to purchase several cement type perches and place them where she is sure to use them, by the food and water bowls, they do a good job with keeping them filed down but they do need somewhat of a point on them to assist them in climbing especially on cloth or rope.
  23. Take her Heather, I have taken Josey in such situations and she might enjoy some turkey and sweet potatoes too. I may even take Josey today when I go to my daughter's house for dinner, she likes going with me. You might want to curtail the eating off your plate at the table bit and give her the meal in her travel cage as some non bird people are offended at fids at the table.
