  1. Dave is right, Stephanie you too, sometimes we jump to conclusions on these types of situations and we should give the person the benefit of the doubt. The owner may have had legitimate reasons for doing what she is doing and until we have been in her shoes we just don't know.
  2. Why don't you post a picture of your jardine parrot, I would love to see it and know others would too.
  3. I do not know much about the jardines but just wanted to congratulate you on getting this baby, you have been going into this store for a reason and now you know why. I look forward to seeing some pictures when you get it home.
  4. Everyone thinks their grey is the smartest, no one gets on here and talks about theirs being the dumbass of the bunch now some of us humans are another story entirely:laugh: don't get your hackles up as I was only kidding:whistle: I think congratulations are in order and may I ask how you accomplished this for the enjoyment of the members on this forum.
  5. That sounds like a good idea, why don't you do just that, then you can rescue more, the more the merrier. Your kids won't kill you or will they:ohmy: nay, never happen.   Have you heard anything yet?
  6. Ya gotta love that wolf whistle, I would imagine that is the most frequent sound that greys learn, I love it when Josey does it. B)
  7. OMG Penny you are going to get another grey, you go girl, I know how you feel and if you do get this grey it will be so blessed, keep us informed as I want to know how this drama works out.
  8. I agree Dan, the bird was there first, shows where their priorities are, they think more of the dog than the grey, I hope someone can adopt this bird, I would if I lived closer, this grey deserves a home where he can get the love and attention he requires, somewhere where he won't get dumped because of the addition of a dang dog. ggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr:angry:
  9. Come on over Caroline, I got some chili left, gonna have taco salads with the rest;) I am playing at work, you know me, if the boss is away then I will play. Is chilly here today, was blowing a little snow earlier but otherwise the sun is out, looking forward to turkey day and several days off, yippee.
  10. If you have done your homework or should I say housework, then you have nothing to worry about, you will do fine and I do wish you much luck with the visit.
  11. I am so glad to hear the issues you were having with Shadow are improving, you followed our advice and it is paying off for you, no wonder it seems like you have a different bird. Keep up the good work and continue to update us from time to time. B)
  12. Just finished chowing down on some homemade chili, boy it was good, now its cruising thru the forum to see what I have missed today so I can catch up on my posting. I too am looking forward to the short work week as I am off Thursday and Friday and I will be spending some time with the fids. Janet, I too will be glad you will be bringing your baby home this Saturday, I am getting tired of hearing about it:blink:  just kidding Janet, it will be here before you know it. B)

  14. Hello Linda and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and SilverStarr. We will try to help you with your problems with your grey, plucking is one of the most difficult things to deal with a grey as there are many reasons why they do it and it is not easy to find why and get them to stop. You will find lots of useful information in our many threads so read thru them at your leisure and do not hesitate to ask any and all questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. I see you have included a picture of SilverStarr and she is a beauty, thanks for sharing it with us.
  15. Thanks for the great recommendation, I have considered reading that book for a long time now and you may have finally convinced me to do just that, sounds like it is one every grey lover needs to read.
  16. Are you sure, some nice earrings hanging down from your grey would look mighty nice:whistle: :woohoo: just kidding. I have seen many sites that have jewelry that looks like parrots and specific species also but I don't remember any specific sites, just do a google search for it and I am sure you will be rewarded with many to choose from.
  17. Well you may not have many quakes but you do have them there in the UK as we have a member who's grey lost some wing feathers due to a fright during the night and it was an earthquake.
  18. I would say that is normal, they will lose more when they are molting but it is common for them to lose some. You don't see any bare spots do you?

    peanuts

I only feed shelled peanuts just for that very reason, but thanks for the heads up as it bears repeating, you are lucky that Charlie is still surviving, you must be taking good care of him, bless you.
  21. Pat, my opinion for whats it worth is I feed Josey the Harrison's fine pellets and she eats them very well and I notice she does not waste them as I hardly ever see any of them in the bottom of the cage, nutritionally I would think they are about the same.
  22. Finley is a cutie all right, seems he is right proud of himself too, thanks for sharing him with us. I like Dave's comment too:laugh:
  23. I am glad you are asking this question before you rush out and get one since they are long lived creatures you must be sure you can provide what is necessary for them to be well adjusted and happy. I am not sure one would be the best choice since you have 4 children under the age of 5, children of that age tend to be loud and quick moving, exactly what scares greys so much. A bite to one of your children could be severe and leave a lifelong scar but if you are willing to keep the children a safe distance unti they reach an age where they can better understand the complexities of having a grey in the house then maybe it can work. Greys as a whole tend to be one of the quieter parrots, as the cockatoos, macaws and conures tend to be louder but they are vocal at several times during the day and most are not screamers. But with young children making a lot of noise sometimes they feel they must compete and so they can be loud but then again it depends on what you consider loud. Some of the other members will chime in with their opinions soon and maybe give you some other things to think about but ultimately it is your decision but think about it long and hard before you committ to one.

  25. Gosh Toni, that is a real nice looking toy you made and if Alcazar chews up part of it all you have to do is take it apart and put some new pieces in, way to go girl, thanks for sharing your ideas with us.
