I think Leo does need to be seen by an avian vet ASAP but if you cannot get some assistance today being Sunday then at least keep him warm. I agree with Lisa, see if you can find an emergency number you can call for advice for when birds are sick time matters. Please keep us informed on Leo as we care about him and you.

Hello Tammy and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and JimBob. You wouldn't happen to be a fan of the TV show the "Waltons" would you for that name is right out of that show, one of the best old shows on TV for being wholesome and heartwarming. Learning together is good and JimBob sounds like he is a well rounded grey and as long as he is healthy and happy then that is all that counts, a match made in heaven perhaps. Most of us here are animal lovers not just bird lovers and we have a wide variety of animals we call our pets and a lot of us have more than our grey, we have other birds or parrots and some of us have more than one grey but one thing is for sure we all are nuts about our greys. You will find lots of useful information in our many threads and do not hesitate to ask any and all questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. If you have some other pictures of JimBob besides the one in your avatar and would like to share them with us we would love to see them.

Behaviour of Grey's after a near death experience
judygram replied to danmcq's topic in The GREY Lounge
I know you all will be ok and Dan shouldn't feel so bad about it, things like this happen but alls well that ends well. I think Dan is a little jealous of the close bond you have with Dayo, you can give Dayo comfort where Dan cannot but greys chose who their favorites are and Dayo chose you but he still loves Dan, just not like he does you Kim. I do hope you can come and visit with us from time to time like you used to do, we have missed you so much here but at least Dan lets us know how you are doing and how close you and Dayo are. You are truly blessed Kim, in so many ways. -
Looking for a breeder near Los Angeles

Well that explains it then, I was just curious about it but it fits you, thanks for taking the time to tell us. -
Hello Jennifer and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Moe. So Moe is a character, we have quite a few here who fit that description and entertaining is exactly what they say about their greys. Some greys just don't talk much or not at all but they all usually do a lot of noises and things that tend to irritate us from time to time due to the sheer repetition but you got to love them. We have lots of useful information in our many threads and do ask any and all questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. I see a picture of Moe in your avatar but if you have any other pictures you would share with us we would love to see them.

Hello Baz7863 and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Alfie. What kind of reaction are you giving to the biting? He could be just testing you to see what he can get away with so kind of ignore it but if he persists then tell him firmly No then put him back into his cage and leave him for 10 minutes and then try again. Is he biting very hard, is it drawing blood? Most greys will beak at things including the hands and that is normal. Please read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and do not hesitate to ask any and all questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. If you have some pictures of Alfie you would like to share with us we would love to see them.

Behaviour of Grey's after a near death experience
judygram replied to danmcq's topic in The GREY Lounge
OMG Dan, that is one scary story and it could have had very dire consequences but glad to hear Dayo is fine or will be fine very soon. I can imagine that Kim coming home when she did has a lot to do with him coming around to his more normal self or he might still be sitting up on that high perch at this very moment. Thanks Dan for sharing this story with us as I have never seen Josey in such a situation and hope I never do but their natural instinct takes over and they do get very still so as to not be noticed. Thank God your dogs obey you when you give them a command. -
Yeah:) Kim is home but the camera remains:ohmy: man this has really played out into such a drama but hopefully it will all be over shortly by way of the "watch" but yes you can keep those facts to yourself Dan, we can imagine and thats enough. I can imagine that Dayo was very glad to see his Mommy but now I want to hear about this dog snack:pinch:

To be continued..............................

That depends on whether they still get along in the same cage, but usually we like to keep them in separate cages for they like having their own cage they can look at as all their own, some greys get territorial about their cages but only you can answer that question.

Hello Louise and welcome to the forum, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Casper. This is great that you could give this grey a home, imagine having to spend the first 16 years of your life in a pet shop and no wonder he is a bit shy at the moment. I am no expert but I think it would be a good idea to open his cage door and see if he would come out, being in that cage all the time is not good for him and he may surprise you and really like being out. Being 16 years old he is set in his ways and it is hard to tell what kind of baggage he carries with him but with much patience and plenty of time he may come to trust you. If you open his cage door and leave all his food and water on the inside of his cage he will have to go back in at some point to eat or drink, you can close his door with him inside then that way you do not have to handle him. I think the lady at the pet shop might be right, he may bite you at this point but he will gradually get more used to having you around but he does need some time out of that cage, it might be months or maybe a year before he learns to trust you and that is way too long to keep him caged. We do have some very knowledgeable members who will be able to give you some better advice than I can but at least I gave you something to think about. Please do read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and do not hesitate to ask any and all questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. If you can manage to get us some pictures of Casper we would love to see them.

Yes it is Erika, thanks for sharing it with us.

Some members here have gotten their cages off ebay which is where I may look for one when I need another cage, they are good quality cages at discount prices, usually much less than from a pet store or pet supply places.

He's napping, maybe something has happened during the night that he didn't get his proper amount of sleep and now he is tired and needing that sleep, just another thought.

How old is Leo? I would say he might need to be seen by an avian vet if he hasn't seen one in a while seeing that he is not very active when he usually was and is fluffed up some but then he might be just having an off day. We have our days that we just don't feel like doing too much and so do they. Maybe some of the other members will chime in with their opinions but you have my two cents worth.

Didn't you know you have a perpetual 2 year old in your house, if not you do now:laugh: :woohoo: Seriously I am surprised he has not done this before, greys are naturally curious and want to be around or in the middle of everything going on. You mean all this time he has either stayed on top of his cage or on his playpen, what do you have on his feet? Glue? Moe has chosen your boyfriend as either his favorite or his mate and wants to be around him all the time, and yes if he is wandering around outside his cage then he is going to end up getting himself in some trouble or get hurt. If you are saying he is still out or allowed out even if you are not at home then that will have to stop, he needs to be caged when no one is home to keep an eye on him, too much they can get into and either wreck or get harmed in some way. Others might have some other ideas and suggestions for you but I have one request, please introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us some more about you and Moe.

Steph, I know you said your mom used to be a vet so you would have someone who knows her stuff so go with what your mom says and be sure to maintain the proper temperature like Dave said and he should know as he breeds greys himself.

Loose droppings, I'm worried--detailed explanation
judygram replied to Chipdouglas's topic in Health Room
Dave has given you some sound advice, your grey needs to be examined by an avian vet and it does not matter how long it takes to go to see one just any old vet won't do. Some of our members have to travel for longer periods of time to see anavian vet but they do it for they care about their bird, why would you want any less for yours. After you have taken him/her in for a complete workup do come back and introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us some more about you and your grey. Like what is his/her name? -

Hello Robert and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and this new grey you want. I must say that is a weird choice of a screen name but I guess you have your reasons, maybe you can enlighten us as to why you chose that particular one, just curious not criticising. You have come to the right place looking for all kinds of information on greys as we have loads of threads that will answer many questions and we have many members who are very knowledgeable about the grey so do ask questions and we will help you in any way we can. We do have some members who live in California so maybe some of them will chime in with some info about breeders in your area but you can also look for breeders on www.avianbiotech.com -
Overload, never as we love grey pics here, the more the merrier, thanks for sharing them with us, love those of Eddie snuggling up with your daughter. B)

OMG, I thought this was another story of yet another member losing their grey and I couldn't bear to hear of another sad ending but yours is different, you got Harry back, now these are the ones I love. Not your losing him but that you were lucky to have someone find your beloved Harry, what a story and so glad you shared it with us. Poor thing knocked himself out, I have found hummingbirds that way before and it is scarey but yes it was a good thing it took you a few minutes to find that spade or you would be burying him alive:ohmy: Maybe now that he has spent a little time in the real world he appreciates his home and you a little more, thanks for sharing this with us and please continue to visit us and share some more adventures with Harry, don't be a stranger now ya hear.

Update on Toni, she has decided to postpone the surgery for a while as she was very hesitant to committ to a permanent solution to her foot problem. Toni being a young woman with a daycare to run feels she needs more time to think about this procedure for there is no turning back once it has been performed. She will wear some kind of boot on that foot to help with her mobility until she decides one way or another what to do. She will be back on the forum soon and I hope to speak to her by phone any day now but this decision is weighing on her heavily and she needs our love and support. Please continue to offer her your best wishes and support and she will be back on the forum as soon as she can manage it for we miss her terribly, I know I do.

I agree Dan and I have had the standard colonoscopy performed on me last year, my doctor found nothing and now I don't have to have another one for 10 years. Yes it is uncomfortable going thru the cleansing and fasting you have to do before hand but I would do it again in a heartbeat if the need arose. Sandra I am not chastising you for your response but if you had read the entire thread you would know the facts that Dan gave for Kim having the procedure but in any case it is not your business to question what tests and procedures Kim's doctor performs. Like Dan said she would not be here today if not for that colonoscopy done 10 years ago. So my advice to you Sandra is have that test done, I did and I do not regret it for a minute, you never know it could save your life. Now I want to know how Kim is today and if she is home yet?
