This is great news Tammy, I was hoping the news would be good and it is and Cosmo will be coming home to you soon as he is weaned but won't be soon enough. Get us some more pictures if you can.
-
That is a myth Chris, my Josey bonded to me and I didn't get her until after she was weaned and I know some people that handfed their greys and they didn't bond any better than the ones that didn't. It will be the love and attention you give that baby when you bring it home that will bring your baby to trust you and that in turn leads to forming the bond.

If you are talking about the grape or cherry tomatoes they are fine to give to your grey.
-
If the price is the same then by all means let the breeder do the handfeeding and wean it before you bring it home, that way you know your baby has been given the best possible start in life. Will you be going to look at your new baby, if so please take a few pics and share them with us so we can see it, we love to see the babies, they are so adorable when they are that young.

That is a much better cage Steph, has more room than the first one you posted and the bar thickness is 4.5mm, I think you will like this one and so will your new baby grey.
-
Chris in my opinion it would be best to leave the hand feeding to the breeder and wait until your baby is weaned before bringing it home especially since you have never done this before. There are things that can go wrong and I would hate to see anything happen to your new baby. He probably thinks there is nothing to it but he has been doing it for 45 years and you have not done it at all. Other members here will say pretty much the same as we all feel that getting an unweaned bird is not for the novice. Are you getting the baby for less money if you get it at 4 weeks as opposed to waiting until it is weaned?
-
Well 4 hours or 5 hours doesn't matter as I suspect you would go much farther for the likes of her and I would too, she looks to be the sweetest thing. I can't wait to hear all about her and see some more pictures.B)

Its nice to have you back on the forum Sameera but I am sorry to hear of the problems with Zahzu and hope it gets figured out soon but in any case keep us updated on her progress and hope all goes well.

Smokey is a good looking Cag, thanks Daniel for sharing a pic of him with us.

OMGawd January 22, 2009, remember that date everyone, the day Dan made a mistake.:woohoo:

Well Josey will be 3 years old in May and she has yet to go thru the terrible twos phase, am I missing out on something here, she is still pretty much the same since I brought her home. Of course she may go thru this phase later, maybe she is just slow to do things, OMG what if she starts with this stuff now, I will be watching and waiting.

Poor Charles but he will get over it but it may take a day or two. I have never trimmed my grey's nails, she does a fairly decent job of keeping hers filed down on the rough perches she has but she still scratches me some. I would never do the clipping of nails myself but then that is me, I would be afraid I would do the same thing your husband did, cut it too short. I have had her talons filed down a little with a dremel tool at the vet's office but I just couldn't do it myself. Don't feel so bad about it, I am sure Charlie will soon get over it and be back to his normal self, just give him a little space to pout and get his dignity back.

Oh boy, a certified personal fitness trainer, if I didn't live so far away from you I would hire you to whip me into shape, and knowing you I bet you would be good at it too, way to go girl, rock on.:side: :silly:

Elaine, I think as long as the cage is far enough away that she cannot reach it when she gets on that side of her cage is fine, sometimes we have to juggle things around some to find the best fit but I don't see a problem in the picture you provided.
-
You haven't lived until your grey romps thru the plate of mashed potatoes oozing them over the sides and flinging the rest all over wherever it happens to land.   :woohoo:

So I assume she accepts this flight suit with no problem then, most would be chewing on it or trying to get rid of it off their body. I always thought it would make a mess on their feathers because it would be holding that poop right up against them but you say otherwise. I might have to check these things out a little more but I doubt Josey would take to wearing one now.
-
Well if Fred is happy and you are happy then I am ecstatically happy for you both. :woohoo:

Mythreeiggys, I am not so much fussing at you but the breeder you got this baby from, that person should not have sold you an unweaned baby grey and at 8 weeks of age that baby is not weaned. Things can and do go wrong with feeding and taking care of unweaned babies and it is best left to people who know what they are doing. At the very least you should be in contact with the breeder to make sure you are doing exactly what you should be doing to ensure your baby grows and develops properly.

Post edited by: judygram, at: 2009/01/23 00:34

OMG, I wouldn't want my grey making elk calls, those are frightful sounding, but my husband has been trying to get my Josey to do turkey calls, so far she has been smart enough to ignore him, wish I could.:pinch:

judygram replied to dibblm's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
Hello Dibblm and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and your new Tag. BTW, what is his name? Well it has only been 3 days and soon the honeymoon could be over but time will tell, glad to hear he is so well socialized and is getting along so good. They each have their own personality and you may have lucked on one with an easygoing one. Please take a little time and read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. If you have some pictures of this grey you would like to share with us we would love to see him. -
Faisal you keep giving us updates on your baby amazon as we care about this little fella and hope he gets all well soon.

Hello Linda and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and whether or not you get a grey. FYI, you do not have to own a grey to join or be a part of this forum, as long as you share a love for them and want to be in the company of others who own and love them is all that is required. Like Dan said you may have to shut the dogs up for a couple of hours a day so you can have the grey out of the cage but if the dogs are in the same room you will have to supervise all out of cage time. Even if they did get a hold of the bird and didn't kill it if they broke the skin then bacteria can get in and that in itself can kill the bird. You are the only one who can answer the question of whether you can safely add a grey to your life and keep it safe from the dogs but others here do manage it quite well. You will find lots of useful information in our many threads so read thru them at your leisure and do not hesitate to ask any and all questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can.

Hi Linda, its good you are asking questions before you go ahead and get that grey, not everyone does that. We have other members who have dogs, cats and other pets in the same household, it will require some diligence on your part to supervise any out of cage time to make sure your bird is safe from the dogs. A grey does require some time outside the cage but not necessarily the run of the whole house, most of us provide playstands for them to be on while out but keeping a close eye on your dogs is first and foremost to keep the bird safe. Why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us some more about you.
