  1. Thanks Marguerite for sharing that with us, you sing beautifully and Dorian accompanies you very nicely.
  2. Hello Chris and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Schrodinger. That is a cute name, would you tell us how you came to pick that name and what it means if anything? I commend you for adopting an older grey, most people want to start off with a baby grey but it looks like you have formed a wonderful relationship with her from the pics you shared with us. You will find lots of useful information in our many threads and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can.

  4. It can be scary to read the ingredient list on human foods sometimes, you wonder what in the world is some of that stuff but I have heard of Totally Organic pellets as Phoenix Landing sells it thru their programs. I tried a bag of it once and Josey was not impressed with it, she seems to be fond of the Harrison pellets and it is organic also.

  6. Beth we can develop allergies at any time but I know you will find a way to live with it, I know I would if in your shoes. I know how you feel, I could no more get rid of my Josey than I could one of my kids.
  7. I don't have an issue with it either but that could be the problem with you Beth and I would do further investigation to find out if that is the case but there is help available if you are allergic to bird dander.
  8. I too am interested in how Ernie is today, I hope Jason comes back and lets us know so we don't worry.
  9. Congrats Eve on your new addition to your family and so glad you are not discussing getting rid of the birds as some think that babies and birds do not mix but they can co exist in the same household, its all in how you handle it. I think you will do fine especially if you follow Birdgirl's suggestions and you may start cutting back on the amount of attention that Lilo gets so when the baby does come it won't be a complete shock when she gets less because the baby demands more. I would be leery of taking Lilo where she will meet or be in contact with other birds as you never know what diseases or infections they may carry and you don't want Lilo catching any thing like that.
  10. When he goes to climb up on your head you will have to take him off and say no firmly and keep doing it, you may have to return him to his playstand for a bit and then try again but with much repetition he will get the message but the sooner the better.
  11. As a new baby he should be more receptive to letting you put your hand into the cage for him to step up on or you can leave the door open and allow him to come out on his own. You will find that a lot of us do not like the idea of clipping the wings, they are meant to fly and if you can manage to allow them free flight then they will be happier for it. Bathing is essential, it moistens the skin, gets rid of the dander and helps with preening themselves, we recommend at least twice a week whether they like it or not. Yes please do take your grey with you when you can, I take my Josey to work with me sometimes and when I go out of state to visit my son she goes along in her travel cage. Most do travel nicely and you can start that as early as you like. I think the cage being in the family room would be the best solution, they need to be near the rest of the family and where the family congregates the most. As far as being close to the kitchen, as long as he isn't in the kitchen is ok but it is mainly the use of teflon cookware that you need to rid your kitchen of that first.
  12. Thanks Lisa for providing the links to some sites for foraging ideas and teaching your bird to forage, karma coming your way, you go girl!!
  13. Yep it works Shelia and that is so cute of Charlie doing the high five, thanks for sharing that with us.
  14. I love the Christmas pics, Rexxy looks like he had a very good Christmas and he must have been a very good boy, thanks for sharing them with us. I just got that book "Alex and Me" and will start reading it soon, I hear it is a good read.
  15. That is a nice shot of Paco there with his nut, he is a very handsome Tag, thanks for sharing him with us. As far as allowing him on your shoulder and close to the face, just be sure you pay attention to his body language, I allow Josey on my shoulder and she gives me kisses but I am always aware of how she is acting at the moment and if she is a little hyper then I back off.
  16. Now that is interesting and it looks like fun for a grey and I bet Taco loves it, thanks for sharing it with us. What is the base made of, some kind of plastic tray?
  17. They are both beautiful birds but please be careful of having your bird outside without any type of harness on as we have members who have lost theirs that way never to be seen again. Thanks for sharing them with us.
  18. Hello Birdgirl and welcome to the family, so glad you found us and we look forward to hearing more about you and your flock. The term "camaroon" refers to a part of Africa where some greys come from but the Cag is a lighter shade of gray than the Tag with a black beak. Your pionus is untame when you rescued it, are you able to handle her now? I think they are beautiful birds and would love to see a picture of her. You will find lots of useful information in our many threads and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. Feel free to post some pictures of your flock if you have some you would share with us as we would love to see them.
  19. Well ok then Pogo is a girl, congrats on having a female, yay its a girl!!!

Dodo What is the largest falcon in the world?
  21. Hello Viktor and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and Paco. You are finding out that the grey is very masterful at mimicing other sounds and you are not going to be able to stop him from repeating these annoying sounds. They love to repeat these sounds they hear and some they may only have heard once to be able to mimic it perfectly. The good thing is they aren't vocal but several times during the day and not all day long. Being a wild caught grey he is going to take longer to get accustomed to you that you may be able to h ndle him and have him step up on you so be very patient with him. Greys are very cautious by nature so don't try to rush him into anything as it will only backfire on you and then you will have to start over from scratch. Please continue to read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and do ask those questions you have and we will help you in any way we can. I see a picture of him in your avatar but if you have some more pics of him you would like to share with us we would love to see him.
  22. Aww thats so sad Berna, the poor little thing but yes there is someone out there that can give that little one a good home and he will probably never know he is different from any other.
  23. The poor thing has not been handled much and it will take time to get him to trust you enough to let you touch him. I know 2 or 3 months sounds like a long time but if he was cage bound then it may take much longer for him to trust you, just don't push anything on him. Open his door so he can come out if he likes, leave all his food and water on the inside so he has to go back in to eat and drink. Talk to him a lot, sit by his cage and read to him and don't try to pet him or touch him for a while. He may still view hands with fear and greys are very cautious birds and his natural instinct is to bite at what threatens him. In the meantime why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us some more about you and this adopted Tag and what is his name?
  24. Pogo is a handsome grey and I love them all, the stance he takes in each is so cute and endearing but the last one is the cutest, he looks like he is taking the disco stance of John travolta in Saturday Night Fever movie, thanks for sharing them with us.B)
  25. What a clever idea for a place to play and it is the right price, FREE, can't get any better than that, thanks for sharing those pics with us, sometimes it is the simpliest of things that are the biggest hits.
