  1. Carol I am sorry to hear you have changed your mind on this particular grey but you have to go with your gut instinct and if you don't feel this is the right one then it was not meant to be. I know you will find that one that is meant for you so good luck to you and I know you will keep us informed all the way.
  2. Wow Sarah that is some story about your fids and I want to thank you for providing so much information so we can know you better. I am looking forward to seeing the difference some time makes for Gilbert who came to you pulling out his feathers and screaming. I just bet with some time he will make a complete turnaround and be one of the sweetest greys you will ever meet, he just needs some love, attention and some good ole tlc. Thanks so much for sharing some of yourself with us, I almost feel like I know you now. Yes please share some pictures of your flock with us and I completely understand about not wanting to risk any setback with Gilbert by trying to get a pic of him.
  3. Hyacinths are very big birds but amazingly they are very gentle, hence they are referred to as "gentle giants". One of the members of our bird club has two of these creatures and she says both of them are as sweet as can be. She usually brings them to the bird fair every year but I keep my distance for they do have some powerful looking beaks, capable of much damage.
  4. Don't make us wait too long as some of us do get impatient, just kidding, you get them when you can but sooner not later.
  5. He will be fine so don't worry and I am glad you followed up with your vet about your concerns and thank you Dave for your excellent advice as always.
  6. John you can come here anytime you need advice or just to spend some time chatting with others who love their greys, someone is on the forum all the time. Thanks for sharing a pic of Sunshine, I am sure she will thrive under your care.
  7. K C, I see this is your first post, why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us some more about you and your birds.
  8. Probably the first thing you need to do is take her to see an avian vet for a workup to see if she is healthy as that staring upward is puzzling to me. You won't be able to just cut out the sunflower seeds cold turkey, but you can gradually replace them with other more nutritious foods and gradually wean her off of them but it will take time. I wouldn't worry too much right now about getting her to eat the pellets, concentrate on getting her some fresh veggies and such, take a cruise thru the bird food room for lots of ideas and suggestions.

    Update on Mum

That really is a nice place and there should be more places like that, anything that helps with something so difficult to deal with, your mum is very lucky to find it, thanks for keeping us updated on her. Hope all goes well for her.
  10. Pako is a very sweet looking Tag, she looks to be settling in very well, thanks for sharing some pictures of her with us.
  11. To copy a phrase of his I will say that Dan is "spot on" with his advice. You are doing what you should be doing to try to stop his plucking behavior now that any physical reason has been ruled out. I know it is hard to ignore but you have to have no reaction to his plucking, just go on about your business and ignore it. He does need things to occupy his mind to take the focus off plucking himself and foraging toys and objects are a good idea. Look thru some of the threads here for other foraging ideas you may not have thought of. You may have to show him how to play with his toys, sometimes they need us to pretend we are having the time of our lives with one of their toys to make them want to play with them. I think there is hope for him to stop this behavior since he is still young but it may take much time and lots of patience to accomplish, stick with it and never give up hope.
  12. I wish I could help you but I can't, this is all beyond my grasp but Dave will be along later and he will shed some light on this for you, I am sure it is nothing to be alarmed about especially if your vet wasn't too concerned about it. I can imagine that flight was very stressful for Chimay but he will get over it.
  13. Aw come on Dan, you might be right this time:whistle: :silly:
  14. Hello Storm and welcome to the family, so glad you could finally join us and we look forward to hearing more about you and your grey. Won't shut up huh, I hear ya, usually when they get to talking they think they are the center of attention and the world revolves around them, hey, come to think of it the world does doesn't it, they certainly rule. She was spot on with her comments after pulling off one of your keys and others have seen that comprehension that they have for knowing what they are talking about, we don't give them enough credit. So if you have been lurking for over a year then you probably have already read everything but if not please do read thru the many threads for you will find lots of useful information, do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. Now if you would be so kind to share some pictures of Storm with us, we love looking at pics here if you hadn't already figured that out:whistle:
  15. That he is healthy IS the most important thing but if you want a guess then I will say a male, this is not based on anything other than a gut feeling, hope I am right.
  16. I would stick with vegetables, grains, legumes, fruits, nuts and cereals as a basic diet, we have a thread that has a list of vegetables and fruits that you can offer. I would stay away from any processed foods as they are often loaded with salt so naturally you would avoid anything with added salt. Most anything with added sugar is a no no too. I would suggest you go thru the bird food room and read everything there for you will find lots of info and advice and then if you have specific questions just ask.
  17. I have taken Josey with me to work occasionally in her travel cage, I haven't harness trained her so she has to be caged. I also take her with me when I go visit my son who lives 4+ hours away, it usually is a weekend visit and she rides very well, she plays with her bell and chatters away on the ride there and back. I live out in the country and don't get to places I could take her very often and when I do go I have to go several different places and some I couldn't take her so she doesn't get to go but I would if I could. I would encourage you to take your grey to as many places as you can for it socializes them more and exposes them to more and varied things than if they spend all their time at home.
  18. Hello Sarah and welcome to the family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing more about you, Gilbert and the rest of the flock. I am so glad you could give Gilbert a home when he needed it, you have a big heart and I think you will be rewarded with his love and affection with some time. He seems to be settling in nicely even though he has only been with you for a week, imagine how it will be after months and years, amazing. You will find lots of useful information in our many threads so do read thru them at your leisure and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. We would love to see some pictures of Gilbert and the rest of your flock if you would share some with us.
  19. I'm sorry you lost out on that grey but there is one out there that is meant for you and you will find it soon, just keep searching and you will be rewarded.
  20. So Harley is a boy, congrats Gary but yes you are right, it doesn't matter whether it is a boy or girl, as long as he is healthy is all that matters, enjoy your new "son"
  21. Hello JayQ and welcome to the family, so glad you found us and we look forward to hearing more about you and your new grey. Star Wars fan huh, yeah I loved all those movies too and now my 9 year old grandson is a big fan but mostly of the toys especially the Lego ones. So I guess you have the cage ready and a bunch of toys for the little bugger when he gets there, you even have a name picked out, now all you need is the baby. Please read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can.
  22. Oh Renate I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Alex, you had him only a short time but long enough to love him with all your heart, I can't imagine how you must feel but know you did all you could for him. I hope after you have had some time to grieve for Alex that you can find another grey to love for you have much love to give.
  23. That is one cute grey, Shady is sure a camera hog and he/she is going to be one spoiled bugger for sure, now Pat how do you continue to feed and care for your other birds because this one is so adorable how can you not spend all day with it. Thanks for sharing this pic with us and I just bet this is the background on your computer, right!!!
  24. Happy Anniversary Caitlin and your bf {Love-0002011D}{Love-0002011E}
  25. Baxter is enjoying it more, he looks more relaxed in these pictures, thats normal for them to want to chew the harness, thanks Erika for sharing a few pics of Baxter's adventure outside.
