  1. I would think I would recognize Josey if I had to pick her out of a group of greys, you kind of get to know the tiny variations of feathers, beak and the way she looks plus she would recognize me first and foremost. Now I know I could pick Sunny out of a crowd of sun conures as she has a little piece missing in part of her beak and she would come to me in an instant.
  2. Cherries are fine for your grey, not sure about the seed but I usually take the seed out and give it to them, I love those bing cherries but Josey didn't:(
  3. I should have figured Dan would know, the sexy devilB)
  4. That is so funny but you learned one lesson, never leave anything with fruit in it on the walls or it will be one heck of a job to get off, I would have paid big bucks, that is if I had any, to see the expressions on your faces when you came back. :woohoo:
  5. Sitting on my knee while I am on the computer is usually what Sunny, my conure, is doing and she will stay there for the longest time, thats where she stays when she isn't on my shoulder which is the remainder of the time she is out.
  6. Greys tend to be very quiet with a few vocal times during the day, Josey will be quiet when I am sitting watching tv or lying in bed watching tv, she just plays around on the bed or sits on my shoulder.
  7. Hello Valerie and welcome to our family, we are so glad you could join us no matter what you get and we look forward to hearing more about you and this grey. I am tending to go with the 2 year old, it is always good to take in one in need of a home and if you give it your all, your love and attention then it should make a good companion for you. We do pride ourselves on the wealth of information here so continue to read the many threads and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. When you do make that decision please share a few pictures with us, you can see we love pics here.
  8. Usually whatever they say they use the voice of whoever said the words they are copying, Josey says words that my hubby says and she uses a lower and more gruff voice than words of mine and she will switch between the two easily.
  9. I'm sure Brutus was picking up on that stress from your husband, you can't fool a grey but thats great that they are getting along better now and I think they all love their heads and neck scratched.
  10. Well I guess it is one of those things that once you been there and done that then thats enough.
  11. This is perfectly normal Amy, all greys are cautious of anything new or different, just give her time to get used to them. The way most of us do it by putting the toy in the same room but far enough away that they are not scared of it then gradually over a few days or longer bring it a little closer until they are comfortable with it. Sometimes it helps for you to play with it some and let her know you are having fun and sometimes that will entice them to accept it. Most greys including mine love bells, I have a tough one that she cannot destroy and she bangs that thing around like she is taking her frustrations out on it.
  12. For right now she is but give her a little time and she might warm up to it, let us know if and when she plays with it.
  13. I know that sound you are talking about but I have never heard Josey do it but I have heard my sun conure do it, she is moving her beak very rapidly and it does sound similar to card shuffling, don't know what it means, maybe some others will know but it is cute to watch.
  14. Hello Valerie, its really up to you which you get as either would be ok in my book, just make sure a grey is the right fit for you, thoroughly research them and read thru many of our threads for information. A two year old bird is not old enough to be set in his ways yet so if you feel confident enough to work with him then it would be the way to go. If he is spending all his time in a cage then he needs a good home with someone who will have him out a good part of the day to enjoy your company and be himself. In my opinion I would go with the 2 year old but then maybe some others will suggest otherwise as this is your first parrot but you have to commit yourself to it if you do.
  15. What a great idea to talk to a family who owns a Cag, nows thats getting first hand knowledge. You are a smart woman to research fully and willing to wait for the right time, wish all people would do the same and we wouldn't have so many birds in need of rescue or rehomed.

  17. I am so sorry to hear this Caroline and I hope you don't come down with it as you may have been exposed, I would have a talk with my doctor if I were you to see if there is anything you can do to prevent you from getting it. That is what neighbors are for and that is so nice you can help out especially since you may have already been exposed to it anyways, keep us posted and I hope your neighbor is going to be ok.
  18. Yep I knew that, always has to be one in the bunch but like a good one he has the unsuspecting ones fooled but not me.
  19. Charlie looks in top shape from the pic you shared, he is very handsome, glad to hear he is back to flying again, it has been a long road but lets hope it stays that way now.
  20. If he was born with it he has adapted to it for he knows no different but he still needs to be seen by an avian vet to see if he is in any pain from it and he just needs a well check anyways. When you get that squared away please introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us some more about yourself and this grey, btw what is his name?
  21. Hello Dee and welcome to our family, we are so glad you are curious about the grey and we look forward to hearing more about you. So the more you learn about the grey do you think you will be adding one to your household? I am sure you are finding they are amazing creatures and we here that have them adore and love them to bits. Please read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can.
  22. Why don't you google einstein and find out Jamal before you go off half cocked.
  23. Who would want to get rid of "birdie smell" I love that smell, it is part of the owning birds experience and if god had meant for them to use shampoo he would have provided it for them in the wild.
  24. Well you know you can make a warm mushy food out of most anything if you cook it and mash it up real good, fruits, vegetables, legumes and the list goes on and on. Josey loves oatmeal in the mornings with a little red palm oil in it but I feed it to her with a small spoon, makes less mess that way and I wipe her beak when done.
  25. Are you sure he was thinking about a bird when asking you that question for birds do not need any shampoo when bathing, in fact it could be harmful. I don't know what kind of bird store you were in but they don't know much do they?
