  1. Hello Spencer and thank you so much for giving this grey a new forever home. It sounds like you know what you are doing and this should serve you well in the coming weeks, months and years as this bird settles into and feels comfortable. There will be a transition period as he grieves the loss of his current caretakers and comes to learn to trust you as his bonded owner, there is no set amount of time for this as it varies with each bird but its not to be rushed for grey time is slow so take it very slow and allow him to adjust to his new home. Let him decide when the time is right to handle him and interact with him as you have to earn a grey's trust. I'm all for a larger cage, they need one large enough that they could spread their wings and not touch the sides, big enough to have some toys and not be crowded especially if he will be spending some time in it but since you work from home it sounds like he might be out most of the day on that playground you say you have so it looks like he has it made, he is gonna love his new home. You can trust the information from this site as we all are owners of greys, whether its just one or several and most of us have other parrots so we know all about sharing our lives with them, most have either been thru a similar situation as yours or just sharing our own experiences but all you have to do is ask and someone will more than likely have an answer for you but the biggest thing I can recommend for you is to take your time and be very patient with him thru the adjustment period however long it takes for you won't be sorry. Pictures are always welcomed so please consider sharing a few when you get him home with you.
  2. Wow, yes he has and his crown of feathers is adorable, he is thriving under your care and who knows how much further he will go in the next few years, he is loved and anyone can see that in the recent picture, happy homecoming Oliver.
  3. We have hawks here too which is why I would be hesitant to even take my fids out on a harness, none are harness trained which is just as well.
  4. Yep, ignore, ignore and more ignore for you cannot give any reaction if you want this to stop, I know its harder done than said.
  5. Hello Rickman and welcome to our family. Is Isaac your first grey, first parrot? Just curious since you didn't give us much information in your intro post, we like to know a little about you and your grey so we can get to know you better. Isaac is a beautiful grey, thanks for including the pictures and I know you two are going to have a wonderful life together.

    Sick Baby

I am so sorry to hear of your loss of Mar, its easy in hindsight to blame yourself for this happening but please don't beat yourself up over it as I am sure you did all you could. Please know that we all are thinking of you at this time of sorrow.
  7. Actually they claim that frozen vegetables retain a lot of their nutrients because they go from the field to the freezer in a short period of time preserving a lot of their goodness.
  8. Josey does a little beak tapping on her bell from time to time, just to make it ding ever so slightly, that is when she isn't banging it around to make a lot of noise.
  9. The expressions on those people's faces are priceless.
  10. Sometimes it takes a bit of trial and error to find what tickles their fancy and I think Inara has found hers.
  11. This too shall pass, some are forgiven as soon as they get back home and some hold grudges for a few hours to a day or so.
  12. Hello Cag and welcome to our family. Yes it is surprising that no one has taken that user name until now but its short and sweet. In my opinion I think you should invest in a cage even if you don't plan on using it for what will you do with your bird when you go out for a while or take a trip for a few days, a bird needs a safe place to be when no one is home to keep them from getting into something that could harm or kill him. You may be at home all the time but you never know the day may come you have no choice, accidents happen after all and if you have a cage handy then it will be a life saver for your grey. Please do read thru the many threads here as possible for lots of useful information from members who have been there and done that and do not hesitate to ask any and all questions you may have. I look forward to seeing some pictures of this new baby when you get some to share with us.
  13. That is always so sweet when they come looking for you, love it.
  14. I have never had a problem getting Josey into her travel cage for I have taken her for short trips that she has enjoyed so it was a positive experience for her and that is what you will have to do for Echo. The travel cage should be used for other outings other than just vet visits or they will associate that with getting into it, you have to make it a fun experience but you are probably going to have to bite the bullet and get him into it the first time to get him to the vet.
  15. Bless you for giving these birds a new loving home.
  16. Don't be stressed about the vet visit yourself for they sense it in us and react to it, keep calm about the whole process and it will go easier for you both, please let us know what you find out after the visit.
  17. You will gradually see more and more of his true personality emerge as he feels comfortable in his new home but be prepared for a step or two back as he progresses but in my opinion you are doing great with him so far, you two were meant to be together.
  18. Hello Candi and welcome to our family. Thanks so much for giving Echo a new forever home and with your attitude I think he is going to thrive and flourish in his new environment. They all are beautiful even if they don't have a feather on their body but the important thing is that they are happy and healthy and your home might just be where he gets the love and attention he needs to hopefully put some more feathers on his body. I look forward to hearing and seeing more of Echo as he gets comfortable in his new home.
  19. Bless you Jeff for giving Lucy a new loving home, you have a big heart and the right attitude to make this work out for all of you and she looks like a real sweetheart.
  20. As always Dave does the research to let us know sunflower seeds are indeed a part of our bird's diet though Josey will hardly touch them but my sun conure loves them, as in everything moderation is the key, thanks so much Dave.
  21. Hello David and welcome to our family. So you looking for a grey, do you have any birds at the moment, will this be your first grey, first parrot? I know I am asking lots of questions but we like to get to know you somewhat and you didn't give us much to start with so why not tell us more about yourself and whether you are looking for a baby grey or an older bird to rehome.
  22. Happy Homecoming Day Bongo, you handsome devil you, hope you are royally spoiled today as you are everyday.
  23. You mean she masturbates on you every night when the horny season starts, oh how nice of her, my conure Sunny will sometimes back up to me in an effort to do the same thing but I understand it is much more ardent with an amazon, oh the life of living with a horny amazon.
  24. Shredder is adorable and he took no time in making himself at home, thanks for sharing the pictures with us.
  25. Hello Miranda and welcome to our family. Congrats on your new grey, I would advise you to read thru as many of the threads as possible for you will find loads of useful information from experienced grey owners, many times you will find the answers to the questions you may have but do not hesitate to ask any and all questions and we will try to give you some answers if we can. Have you decided on a name yet? When you get him home please share some pictures of him with us.
