  1. Its a Hill Mynah and I have included a couple of links to threads about Mocha. http://www.greyforums.net/forums/showthread.php?185994-Mocha-with-my-wife http://www.greyforums.net/forums/showthread.php?189589-Mocha-bathing
  2. You do it the same way no matter what room you are in so post away some pics if you like.
  3. Thanks Dave, I thought it was nothing to be worried about but wanted the expert's opinion so there you go Tbird Sunny is just fine.
  4. You can cover it with some rope, very small diameter like jute twine and wind it tightly around the open parts of the stand.
  5. Welcome back Gandalf, you had quite an adventure but you are back now safe and sound, what a sight that must have been to get out of the van and have him come right to you like that, this is great.
  6. Maybe you could get one of those beaded curtains and hang it in front of the door, put it on a rod and put something up above the door that you could just put it in front of the door when Tui is out, that way he won't be able to fly out the door when it is opened. I have heard of other members using those beaded curtains in doorways to keep their birds in a particular room or from being able to go all over the house. Just a suggestion.
  7. Like I have said before, Cocoa is a well socialized grey who doesn't mind in the least to be handled because he loves and trusts his family, what a bond you all have with her. Love the pics of Cocoa and Mocha on your wife's shoulders, she must be preparing food and it looks like Cocoa got herself a morsel and Mocha was still looking for one, thanks for sharing them with us Sanggay.
  8. He really needs to be on a better diet as seed only is not very healthy for an african grey, you should try giving him some fresh veggies, raw or cooked and see if he will eat them, he may not at first but keep trying for sometimes they will eventually try them and who knows he may even like them. You can look in our bird food room for threads that have lists of what they can have and not have. He could benefit from having some legumes, nuts, rices and pasta in his diet also and occasionally some fruit, they usually will eat the fruit but they should have more veggies in proportion to fruits. The addition of pellets would greatly enhance his nutritional needs and you can try different brands to find one he will eat, if he will eat the Harrison's High Potency kind that would be great as it is one of the most recommended. We might be able to tell about the beak if we could see a picture.
  9. That describes my sun conure to a T.

    Toast

I don't know what "Sunpat" is but maybe if you shared the ingredients with us we might be able to make a judgment about it.
  11. What a wonderful video and so true, thanks for the hearty laugh Dan.
  12. It can vary but you will be able to tell when she is more confident and when she learns to fly that will help her to be more agile.
  13. Young grey babies are known for being a little clumsy and Jay is right to lower the perches in the cage so she won't be so far off the bottom of the cage should she fall, you can also pad the bottom with some blankets or towels and cover them with some newspaper until she gets more agile and sure footed.

    Spraying

You are one of the lucky ones to have a grey that enjoys the baths and sprays, mine will tolerate it but doesn't much care for it but I don't let that stop me from giving her a good soaking.
  15. This is great news Lee, Zoey has found a new forever home and has settled in nicely and yes she will step up soon, thanks for letting us know it is going well for you and Zoey, maybe you will indulge us with some more pictures, please.
  16. Hello Tbird and welcome to our family, I look forward to hearing more about you and Sunny. How old is Sunny? Usually when they are young their beaks are more black but then as they get older it sort of looks powdery and scratched, you will see your grey wipe it's beak on lots of things, some rough and some smooth and even you for the beak is constantly growing and it flakes off from time to time. If you would be so kind to post a couple of pics of your bird's beak so we can see what you are talking about but I suspect it is nothing to worry about.
  17. When you get your new parrot home put it into its cage and let it explore its cage a little then open the door and let him/her come out when they feel like it and talk softly to them all the while, don't crowd around the cage unless the bird is ok with it. I don't advise you to wrap them up in a towel as that will only make them mad and dislike you all the more, a towel is typically used by vets to be able to examine them but you can play some games with your bird when it settles into the home that will get your bird used to being around and in towels so the experience won't be as frightening when it happens by necessity.
  18. Hello Crittergyrl and welcome to our family. Go ahead and handle him if he is showing signs of acceptance to you and do not be afraid or he will know it, just move with confidence and don't hesitate and you will be surprised. The others have given some good advice so put your fears aside and take what Gandalf is offering, his friendship.
  19. Janet you will have to say it with great enthuiasm putting a lot of emphasis on the words and maybe then she will repeat them for sometimes its not the actual words that interest them but the way they are said.
  20. Birdnut, does your sun conure talk? Mine does not and I used to think they weren't talkers but I have since learned they do talk but I guess I got the one that doesn't but I love her no less and they are fun little birds.
  21. It just took Corky a while to warm up to talking but when she did oh wow, Josey did not say her first words until she was a year old and she says all kinds of words and phrases now, some start early and some wait a while.
  22. Happy Hatchday Lyric, you are almost as old as Josey as she turned 4 in May and I can't believe she is that old already, hope she has a wonderful day filled with love and lots of treats.
  23. You need to ask yourself what you are looking for in a parrot as each of these have different personalities, handling, feeding and such, what appeals to you about each one individually? None of the will be a better buy if you don't know what you want and please don't buy any until you figure it out, you should research thoroughly before you decide. Do you currently have any other parrots or birds?
  24. Congrats on your new addition to your flock, two greys will be twice the fun of one and I look forward to seeing some pictures of Thumper.
  25. Well don't give up on conures in general for they make great pets, I have a sun conure and she loves to be handled, in fact she is a shoulder ornament when I am at home and she is out, she loves nothing better than to ride there wherever I go in the house and she goes with the flow, no matter what I am doing she is there and I do not have to move slow to keep her from getting off balance as she is very adept at staying on with me in motion.
