  1. Ray you have come up with some good topics lately, just what we need to keep this forum going and to have some fun, after all laughter is the best medicine, thanks for all you do.

  2. I knew he would get a clean bill of health but those vet visits usually don't do anything to improve their mood and Timmy will get over it, just be patient and all will be forgiven.
  3. If money isn't a problem you can probably get a smaller cage to use while you are displaced, I mean bigger than a travel cage and smaller than her current cage and then you could use it as a sleep cage or one to use to take her outside for some sunshine when it is pretty weather. A travel cage would be ok for a few days but not for a couple of weeks, much too long to have to spend in one that small. About the hardwood floors since I don't have any I do not know how long it would be until its safe to return, certainly until the smell is gone but some members here who have some experience with wood floors will chime in with their info and suggestions for you.
  4. One day I came home from work and Josey was standing on top of her cage, I saw that the doors were closed and wondered how she got out and looked and saw the breeder door slightly open, she had managed to open it and came out, I have closed it and she has not opened it since but I know the day will come when I will go home and find her out again, then it will be time for plan B to fasten it so she cannot open it.
  5. I would not bathe her until she has all her feathers but if she has an unpleasant odor then by all means use a warm damp cloth to wipe her off and see if that helps, make sure she does not have formula caked on her anywhere and change her bedding often.
  6. You did the kindest thing you could do for her and she was a very pretty girl especially snuggling up to your son, I would forever remember her like that, thanks so much for sharing those pictures with us as I know you are heartbroken right now.
  7. Marcus is smart enough to know which bottle creates the dreaded shower, doesn't surprise me in the least that his reaction was to attack it with fury hoping it never comes at him again, thanks for sharing that story with us.
  8. Hello 2luvcag and welcome to our family, so glad you could join us. Do you have a cag at the moment or wanting to get one? Do you have any other birds? Please tell us a little more about yourself so we can get to know you better and do read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can.
  9. It doesn't matter whether he is 9 years or 7 years he is a mature bird and it is not necessarily a female thing as males participate in nesting behavior, after all it takes two to tango. It is going into spring now and the hormones are raging, I would think in a few months this will subside but it does make it difficult while it is going on. You are doing the right thing to walk away from him when he gets going, just tell him "thank you" and turn your back on him and try later. I know this is frustrating to you right now for you want to interact with him and all he can think of is mating. My grey is also somewhat hormonal too as she is getting close to 5 years old now but she doesn't do it to the extreme as Gizmo does, you got a hot blooded grey!
  10. You have asked an interesting question that I have no answer for but maybe one of our members will be able to answer it for you, I just know that you cannot use physical punishment on our greys and it is best to use positive reinforcement.
  11. Thats funny, maybe he is softly talking himself to sleep, I have not heard any of my fids do anything like that, in fact they usually are as quiet as church mice after the covers go over their cages, thanks for sharing that with us.
  12. I am so sorry for your loss but she is pain free flying over the rainbow bridge and you can rest knowing that she knew her family loved her dearly, it is so heartbreaking when a loved one is taken so early in their life.
  13. Well now this is a first, we don't usually encounter greys who go from pet to breeder then back to pet, usually pets don't make good breeders and breeders don't make good pets but it seems she is settling into her new home but do be prepared for when she unpacks her bags for it is too soon for her to reveal her true personality. Poor dear must look a fright with a bald head but I would imagine the feathers will regrow soon and you will not be able to tell, thats good you are misting her often and keeping the humidity up. I look forward to hearing lots more about her and maybe a pic or two if you would like to share some.
  14. Sounds like it was the best decision to allow your dad to have Zoe Ann, they benefit each other even though Sully misses her.
  15. I bet he passes with flying colors, please do let us know how healthy he is and post more often as you have not been around as much lately.

  17. If they are used to travel cages they should do fine, I have traveled with my fids, of course it was only for a few hours but I don't see a problem with longer trips, maybe stop now and then to give them some personal time. I hope you have scoped out some motels if that is where you are staying to make sure they will accept them but continue to go as close to their regular schedule as possible, make sure they get to bed regular time. Pack treats, food, toys and plenty of water to do them the entire trip, if they are harness trained you could take them out for a spell to let them get some fresh air and sunshine if that is an option. When you get there assemble their cages and put them where they will be placed in the new house, they will adjust to the new surroundings and be sure to tell them what you are doing, explain things to them for they understand more than what we give them credit for. Most enjoy watching the scenery out the window but if large trucks and the like frighten them as they pass you then have some towels or covers you could put across the side of the cage to minimize stress and play it by ear.
  18. I see from looking at previous threads that he is approximately 9 years old, it could be some kind of nesting behavior and you want to avoid that and also as Jayd stated you don't want to encourage any regurtitation. Don't touch him any further back than his neck for touching him beyond that will stimulate him and then he will get frustrated and then biting will occur. Maybe try putting something, maybe blankets or towels under the couch for the time being so he can't get under there and keep distracting him away until the behavior passes.
  19. Glad to hear you are keeping that big cage but I would suggest maybe adding a couple more toys, it is so big you could add them and not hinder his movement in the cage.
  20. JamesMates, you haven't been back since you posted on 3/12/2011, would love to hear more from you and maybe some pictures of Henry.
  21. Josey - I guess I would call her Nervous Nellie for she is so skittish and easily frightened. Sunny - would be Hitchhiker for she is always wanting to ride around on my shoulder when she is outside her cage. Gyspy - is Jet setter for she loves to fly.
  22. Congrats on Simon coming home this Saturday, I know you can't wait. If you are having Simon vet checked and your Kazoo has been recently vet checked then it may not be necessary to quarantine Simon from Kazoo but go slow with the introduction. I look forward to seeing some pictures when Simon gets home.
  23. I am so sorry to hear this but you did nothing to cause it so don't beat yourself up wondering what you may have done, these things happen, hoping to hear some good news but I realize it may be too late for her, I will keep good thoughts.
  24. Munch has the right idea, go after the pet store and quit trying to "rescue" these birds.
  25. That makes it so much better to watch it in slow motion, she is a very graceful flyer, thanks for sharing it with us.
