I took off work early today to go see Rio and loved it, I highly recommend it to any bird lover, it was awesome to watch. Actually the blue macaw they are referring to is the Spix macaw which is close to extinction in the wild.

Audi is going to be one beautiful tiel, love that tail.

I would be very concerned about Oboe going into Simon's cage for even though he may be very fast when he is inside the cage he may not be able to get away from Simon if he takes a notion to go after him and believe me if he ever does it will be the end of Oboe, besides greys can become territorial about their cages and that would make him more aggressive to Oboe if he ventures inside his cage. I think he was lucky today that Simon was busy feeding his face but it may not be like that every time. All it takes is one second and your lovebird will be history and personally I wouldn't want to chance it.

Happy Hatchday Sully, a big one year old today and looking forward to many more happy ones to come.

Yes inquiring minds want to know!

If you google bird or parrot supplies you will get lots of sites to order toys, food and anything you will need for your bird but a few of my favorites are www.drsfostersmith.com http://www.birdsafestore.com/ www.cheepparrottoysntips.com My favorite book about african greys is "For the Love of Greys" by Bobbi Brinker

I would say if your cage will be in the family room or wherever the family spends most of their time when home then you need to cover the cage. I cover mine with a black sheet and have since I have had them in my house, they know its time to sleep and they are not distracted by us moving around. Some people use sleep cages for their greys placed in a room where they will not be disturbed but it is a personal preference, one member has a grey who has night frights occasionally and she gets up to calm her down when that happens. I use a sheet that is dark in color and it is not heavy enough to cut off air circulation.

I use some cement perches in Josey's cage but it has not helped a whole lot as her talons are very sharp. She has never had her beak trimmed and hopefully never will unless it happens to grow unnaturally and if it does it should only be done by an avian vet.

I have used some baby food veggies in some oatmeal I cooked for my birds, its one way to help get some veggies in their diet. I feed the fine Harrisons to my grey, she seems to like it better than the coarse and she doesn't waste as much of it either.

Hello Brett and welcome to our family, so glad to hear you are wanting a grey so be sure to read all you can to learn as much about them before your baby comes home. As we have different rooms here you can basically put your questions where you think they fit the best but please ask any and all questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can.

And thats the truth plain and simple.

Hello Jen and welcome to our family, we are excited to hear you have your grey you always wanted. I see from your pictures you are a dog lover and you have a nice bunch of animals and Earl looks great too. Take some time and read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can.

I found a thread about the clay but it doesn't say much: http://www.greyforums.net/forums/showthread.php?190676-Fyi!!!&highlight=clay

Sanggay is wasting no time getting Audi used to a harness so he/she can accompany him on his outings with Cocoa, won't be long now.

Oh wow Stephen, some red factor coming out and since it didn't appear until after a good molt it is likely he will keep them, yes I would love to see a picture of them, don't you have a zoom feature on your camera, hint hint.

Happy Hatchday Nilah, you keep mommy on her toes now.

Josey has some rough perches but it is not enough to keep her nails filed down where they are not like needles but I have never managed to be able to trim them myself so I have to take her to the vets for that, they towel her so its not like I do it myself and then I am the rescuer who takes her away from that awful procedure. It probably is a good thing to teach your bird to not be fearful of a towel and you can make a game of it like hide and seek to make it fun and associate having a good time with a towel instead of just something to use to restrain them but then the first time you use it for restraining then they aren't going to like it again, my opinion.

That is adorable, its videos like this that makes me want an amazon but then my better judgment takes over and its gone but I love watching these and Kazoo is funny beyond words, thanks for sharing that.

Hello Salgar and welcome to our family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing lots more about you and Carla. So you are saying you have had Carla for a week now, well lets just say you have your work cut out for you as she is a mature grey at 20 years of age and has baggage and it will take a lot of work, time and much patience on your part to win her over but it can be done. Have you had birds before? I ask because you made the comment "she is making a mess" birds do make messes and if you are going to have one or more in your house it is something you will have to get used to for you can clean it up but its right back in just a few minutes, its something us bird people have learned to live with if we want to share our home with fids. Give her space if she doesn't like being touched, she is in an all new to her envoronment and it takes time to gain her trust, even more so with an older bird who is set in her ways, let her become comfortable and let her make the first move for more interaction from you, thats a great start that she will take treats from your hand and in time she will probably allow you to pet her head but in any case let her make the decision. Talk to her as much as you can, sit by her cage and read a book or the newspaper to her and let her know by your actions you are not going to harm her, you have to earn her trust as it is not freely given. Do not worry about some possible plucking of her feathers at this time as it could be due to the new environment but its good she enjoys spraying with a little water, keep doing that every couple of days for its good for her. She probably needs a vet visit but that would entail putting her into a travel carrier and might stress her at the moment but how did she react when you first brought her into your home, was it by travel carrier and did you take her out or just allow her to exit on her own? It might be best to allow her to settle into her new home first then make a vet visit later. Would love to see some pictures of Carla if you have some you would share with us.

I do too Janet, it just takes time for Louie to come to fully trust you and he will for the will is there but the body isn't moving yet.
-
It should also be noted that it is not unusual for them to change their preferences at sometime in the future for whatever reason, my Josey is bonded to me with limited handling by my hubby but at some future time she could change that preference for me to him.

Must be an amazon thing!

Shelby is getting VERY Vocal and did her first mimic today
judygram replied to Mikestang's topic in The Nursery
Its always exciting when they make their first mimics and starting to talk, its like your child's first steps and no less amazing, you will become more familiar with her calls and what she means by them, you already know her call when she no longer can see you, she just needs reassurance that you are still nearby even though she cannot see you any longer. -
You can already see the orange patches on the side of Audi's head and he/she has most all of the feathers out now, they grow so fast and will soon be the same for Peugeot, wonder how similar they will be in coloring.

I bet you get a great welcome home from work every day with 3 greys jostling for attention from their beloved parront, all three with distinct personalities but the most dominant will win the top position in pecking order, to be assumed in time and I bet you have a good idea of which one that will be.
