  1. Hello Qtmomo112 and welcome to our family, so glad you could join us. Congrats on adopting an older bird, is this your first grey or first parrot? You will find loads of useful information in the threads here so be sure to read them thoroughly and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. One thing to stress is allow this grey to settle into his/her new home and get comfortable, don't push for more than he/she is willing to give and let the bonding process begin, it takes time to build trust as it must be earned so let him/her set the pace and enjoy your grey. Pictures would be most welcome.
  2. Hello Cindy and welcome to our family, so sorry to hear of your loss. Nikki's life was way too short but maybe one day another grey will find its way into your life for you know full well how they enrich our lives with their presence and who knows maybe it will be a rehome or rescue grey for they do exist in many numbers because of people who cannot comprehend how much time and attention they require. I had not been aware that high cholesterol could be such a life threatening problem for them but I know now, thanks for making us aware.
  3. The poor dear has suffered so much because of this stupid ring, I am so sorry this has happened to her and I hope she heals up fast and her pain subsides.
  4. Josey is not much of an almond eater but this is cute how when they want something nothing stands in their way, thanks for sharing the pics with us.
  5. What a sad loss Cindy and so sorry about Nikki, I wonder if cholesterol screening is part of the regular bloodwork done on greys but thanks for the heads up on this even though it came at the expense of your precious grey's life.
  6. Good job Shana for finding what Keegan couldn't.
  7. I have seen these but don't know whether they are safe or not but it doesn't look like its big enough to grow much of anything.
  8. It looked like some pigeons were there by the pile of palm nuts, will they eat the flesh of the palm nut too?
  9. Morana has a point, maybe its time for a quick call into the vet to reassure yourself Robin, its what I would do, keep us informed.
  10. As we are not vets here I can't give you an answer and your best bet is to contact an avian vet for advice. You said there are no avian vets where you live but where are the nearest ones? Could you not contact one by phone that could at least give you an idea of what might be wrong or maybe help you with locating one close enough to go to?
  11. This is why we have to change the water often and like Shana said be careful of where you put perches and even toys so nothing is right over the water bowl. Like most bird owners I have some that like to dunk food in their bowl so it has to be changed often, gives us something to do!

    harness

The earlier you start getting them used to a harness and putting it on the better they will take to it, a young grey will accept it easier than an older bird but with any bird just take it slowly and try to make it as pleasant an experience as possible.
  13. I have some like that too and one of them has a hickory ceiling and hubby doesn't want holes drilled in it.
  14. You are right Ray, they like to be the master of their domain and its their way of saying they decide and not us when they come out or if they come out of their cage.
  15. You can still hang them from the ceiling even if they are slanted but yes it is possible to hang them from a wall if you can find something long enough, maybe a plant hanger would do the trick. I also have one hanging in each of the bird's cages and Josey sleeps on the top of hers.
  16. Well remember it has to be on Timmy's terms but many greys are more receptive of scratches and touching in the evening hours before bedtime but if he allowed you once then it will happen again so watch for the clues and relish these moments.
  17. You are truly blessed to have given Lucy a second chance at life and I hope that better living conditions will stop her from the mutilation she does to herself, keep us informed of any and all progress and much luck.
  18. It may be she is allergic to the metals in the ring or it is irritating her and she is biting her foot because of it, you really need to get her to an avian vet to have that ring removed. My question is why did you have the ring put on in the first place as it is usually put on when they are young enough for the band to go over the foot?
  19. I have lots of t-shirts so I just change when it gets soiled with poop besides my conure loves to tear holes in my shirts or chew off any kind of decoration so when the shirt has had it I toss it hence I can't wear anything good around her.
  20. OMG that is cute overload, what an adorable little penquin and yes if you don't watch the whole thing you miss the best part, thanks Deby for sharing that with us.
  21. No reason just some Cags are darker grey than others, they are all individuals and will vary in the shade of grey, my grey is a lighter grey than some I have seen, in any case it is nothing to worry about, Fred just has more pigmentation than BamBam does.
  22. I am so sorry for your loss, I guess Milly was sicker than she seemed and her life was cut too short but she is pain free and flying over the Rainbow Bridge now, I know you miss her terribly and she will always hold a special place in your heart now and forever, again so sorry about Milly.
  23. You do have to be careful of scams as there are so many scumbags willing to pull a fast one on unsuspecting people, you would do best to find a breeder in your area or look for rescues or rehomes, if you are meant to have a grey you will one day.
  24. Yes I have been watching this live feed and it is addictive and so is this other one of a hummingbird's nest, I think it is so neat how we can watch what normally was off limits, isn't technology a blast! http://phoebeallens.com/
  25. It looks like she is in the right position so she just needs to squat a little and let her rip!
