  1. Yes a vet visit is in order to rule any physical reason but do not get upset in front of Jasper for it will only make it worse. Just don't freak out that he is plucking as there are many reasons and will take time, if there is a physical reason then the vet can help and if its not then it may be something you will have to live with, after all he is the same bird with or without feathers.
  2. That is so sad but sometimes nature takes care of its own.
  3. Welcome back Cindy, you have been gone a long time, looking forward to hearing more from you.

  4. He is a very handsome fella, love the little red feathers scattered on his abdomen, now that you have the photo problem conquered maybe we will see more of him, thanks for sharing them with us.
  5. Thanks for giving me a good laugh Mawnee, Josey will tear into chicken, turkey or most any meat I offer her and she eats eggs too, she has also chowed down on a chicken bone but then I guess Cosmo sees flesh differently than most.
  6. Wow Malikah, that is awesome, I love hummingbirds too and ours should arrive sometime next month, I put out several feeders and they come and eat and fight with each other for exclusive rights to them, I love watching them and I can't believe someone has managed to set up a webcam on a nest of them, I will be checking this often, thanks for sharing the link with us.
  7. Nothing a good bath won't remedy but so glad to hear he is not so wild as you first thought, just give him time to get comfortable and I can't wait to see some pics of him when you get the chance.
  8. That is so cute of him on his back playing, wish my grey would lay on her back, thanks for sharing the pics with us. What is that "stuff" you have in the tray, looks like ground up corn cobs?
  9. So glad this had a happy ending and now Little Man is reunited with his owner, thanks CocoaRocks for letting us know.
  10. I don't know Mike but the world is filled with all kinds of people and some of them are capable of unimaginable cruelty especially when it comes to animals and I know exactly how you feel as I would do the same thing if I ever found the person/persons responsible.
  11. Congrats on getting Louie home and it seems he is making himself right at home, I hate to sound like a broken record but more pics please.
  12. Morana, this does not look good to me, maybe it is a quirk but I think it needs checking out by your avian vet, if it were my grey I would schedule a visit and soon, my motto is better safe than sorry.
  13. Dee is doing a wonderful job with Gilbert, I think they are a good match, even though I have warned her he may regress a little as he unpacks his bags and his true personality unfolds but she is off to a great start with him, she knows how to handle him and when not to, I am so happy that she has another grey in her life for I think she is happy as well as Gilbert.

    bathing

You can bathe her at least 2 times a week in aloe vera juice full strength and do it early enough in the day so she dries out before bedtime and let her dry naturally.
  15. I think it is purely territorial for he is asserting his independence now that he is about 1 year old, he is too young for it to be anything hormonal. He wants some control over his life and wants to make some decisions for himself and he is telling you in the best way he knows how so give him some space and when he doesn't want you messing with him then respect his wishes and try later, if you force yourself on him then he will bite, heed his warnings, watch his body language and you two will get along better.
  16. I think he is over 5 years old and maybe as much as 10 so she is not sure, he has been in several homes before coming to the present one.
  17. I'm pretty sure all members of Sanggay's family regularly handle Cocoa so she is well socialized and she can be quite the ham as pictured, thanks for sharing them with us.
  18. The keel bone should not be prominent and certainly not sharp so I think a vet visit is in order to make sure she is ok and Jill is right about weighing them weekly, you could start out by doing it daily for a couple of weeks to get an average and then check it weekly for that is one of the ways you can check for anything wrong as they will lose some weight when sick.
  19. Josey is 2 months away from her 5th hatchday.
  20. Hello Electra and welcome to our family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing lots more about you and your flock. Poor dear and she must look a fright without her head feathers but time will take care of that and so glad you could give her a new forever home. It will take time for her to get used to her new home so be patient with her and allow her to adjust. Allow plenty of adjustment time in getting used to dogs as she may not have been around any in her past so of course they are going to stress her out. Be sure to read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. You are welcome to share some pictures of her if you like and we have an other birds room where you can put some of Eva, Bibi and Butters as we would love to see them.
  21. I bet she is union, she don't work for cheap, thanks for sharing the pics with us.
  22. Janet I hate to say this but this is one reason I would never buy a bird sight unseen, the breeder obviously knew about the toe and may have sent you a different bird from the one in the pictures she emailed to you, if this particular one was meant to be yours then they should have told you about it as soon as they knew. Its not that the bird has a deformed toe but the fact they didn't tell you about it first. My sun conure has a beak that was damaged by her sibling when she was still being handfed, I was given the choice of the two conures but I chose the one with the hole in her beak because she responded better to me, the difference being that I chose and you were given no choice, that breeder owes you an explanation.
  23. No it hasn't for Josey does not mind me putting my hands inside her cage but some greys do, of course she has nver really bitten me either, guess I am just lucky.
  24. Sorry to hear this but instead of trying to get him out of his cage allow him to come out on his own then ask him to step up, some get territorial about their cage and do not like even their favored person to put their hands inside to get them, try that and see if it helps.
  25. I bet that deformity doesn't hamper her one bit, probably happened from one of her siblings but your vet will put your mind at ease Janet.
