  1. What a story but so glad it had a happy ending, we have had quite a few take flight lately, one has not been found so far but I had tears in my eyes reading your story, now you know why we stress so much that even a clipped bird can fly away if given the right circumstances. Don't be so quick to clip the wings for if by chance she escapes again a flighted bird stands a much better chance of surviving and being found if they are capable of flight. There are precautions you can take to keep her safe while being flighted so please read some of the threads in the training room for ideas and suggestions.
  2. Gosh Steve I just don't know but maybe something is bothering him in his tail area, I would have him checked out by your avian vet if it were me, of course I don't know much about pluckers but it seems strange that he would only pluck them from his tail and not his body, maybe someone else can shed some light on this matter.
  3. What a handsome fella Sidney is and he does look a little sneaky in that first pic, you can tell his brain is working on something, maybe how he can fool you again who knows, thanks for sharing the pictures with us.
  4. Since your bird spent more time with others and you have only had her for a few months she is still saying a lot of what she used to hear but that should lessen over time as she no longer hears those words and phrases. They do tend to repeat what they like hearing and the others are right that it seems that words and phrases said with emphasis are picked up more so than others so keep that in mind when you want her to repeat something. She is cute as a button and thanks for sharing the videos with us.
  5. I don't have a pressure washer but have considered getting one to do the cages as it would do a thorough job of cleaning them, you can only do so much when they are in the house, glad you got Cleo's cage spotless.

    Baby Wynn

Hello Miki and welcome to our family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing lots more about you and this new baby grey Wynn. Has he been dna tested and you know he is a he? The babies are adorable and thanks so much for including them in your intro post, we love looking at pictures here and especially the baby greys, so sweet looking. Be sure to read thru the many threads here for lots of useful information and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can.
  7. Amazons do get hormonal so that may be the reason for the sudden change in his behavior, if you take a look around the amazon room you will find some threads that deal with this problem, I say problem for it is more of an amazon thing than a grey thing so Shelly may be right on.
  8. Janet is correct, you should just allow your fids to air dry naturally as using a blow dryer will dry their skin out further and you want them to stay damp for a while after a bath, never use any type of drying instrument on your fids.
  9. So Shelby is a female, now we know why she looks so good.
  10. Aw you mean that wasn't Cocoa, I could have sworn that was her, looks just like her but that is so cute, that is something you probably won't see too many greys doing, thanks Sanggay for sharing those pics with us.
  11. You should be rotating toys out every couple of weeks so she has new ones to enjoy and destroy remembering to allow her enough time to get used to it and foraging opportunities are wonderful too. I have to comment on taking your grey on outings in the car, my grey enjoys car rides and plays, chats and rings her bell when we go on road trips, she enjoys the ride with the scenery, entertains us with her chatter and bell ringing and it helps to associate getting into a travel carrier with enjoyable experiences instead of just something to have to put them into to go to the vet.
  12. Those are greyt looking toys and I see you have incorporated one of the favorite little foot toys, the bottle cap, my grey loves those things, how clever of you to make that, it might even inspire me to try my hand at making one, thanks for sharing the pics with us.
  13. Bull butter! I have a dna'd female who is bonded to me and this is a myth that still circles around to this day but it is hogwash, a bird chooses who it likes and its not based on male or female but I do believe that if a particular bird has been in several different homes and receives mistreatment in each situation from, as an example a male then they may not like any males from then on. Monty might be a female but a grey chooses who is their favorite and he has obviously chosen your husband. He will probably be ok with a new bird, more than likely he won't get along with it and that bird may bond to you or your husband, it just depends on what the bird likes. Most of us have more than one bird, I have 3 and not one of them gets along with the other two but they have their own space and time with me so it all works out.
  14. As far as I know they have not been on the forum now for quite a while not even Maggie so no one knows anything Howardine but if anyone does hear from them we will surely let you know.
  15. One person, two persons, it all works the same as my husband and I work the same hours so we are gone during the day, I take care of their needs before I go to work and he comes home right before I do as his work place is closer but they remain in their cages until I get home, they are my birds, then when I get home they are out until their bedtime. I leave a radio on for background noise to help keep them company while we are gone.
  16. Crystal is right on the money, most of us put our young grey into their full size cages with the perches and such placed lower and maybe a towel or blanket placed in the bottom of the cage to cushion any falls then when they get more agile the perches can be raised to normal heights.
  17. I just bet that if Cricket could talk she would tell you how much she loves you and appreciates all you have done for her, what a nice tribute to how you feel about her, every bird should be as lucky as she is.
  18. That is definitely a baby grey, its a good thing you posted the picture and Dave has given you some excellent advice, poor little dear is hungry, I hope you can find some of the things Dave mentioned to feed him and be sure to keep us informed as we want to know how this grey gets along.
  19. How sweet that is and they do enjoy neck scratches, thanks for sharing Amigo getting her cuddles with us, she is very pretty.
  20. I printed me off some tickets and plan to enter this raffle as I would LOVE to have that quilt, not only is it a beautiful piece of work but it holds such memories and it was made by one of our endearing members, thanks Dee for sharing the link to getting tickets, I hope it sells millions.
  21. Well thats her in my signature line of "check my pets page" and she has had the pearls since I found her last summer.

    Here`s Sid

Sid is just not a touchy feelly type of grey, some are like that and don't want any contact except for head scratching and this is partly because of mistreatment he has received in the past, its his way of dealing with it so you will have to accept it.
  23. Sounds good and be sure to let us know how this batch goes over with the fids.
  24. Shelby is a real cutie, I have a pearl cockatiel also but I don't know how old or what sex but I refer to Gypsy as a female because I think she is, she also has the orange cheeks, thanks for sharing a little about him and some pictures.
