Rorschach definitely likes females better and that is cute he is giving someone else besides you the hot and bothered routine, poor David has to take a back seat but greys pick who they like best but at least he gives David the attention when you are not home but then as soon as you show up he is ignored, better learn to live with it. Yes, he looks to you as his favorite and is warning him to stay away for even though he gets along good with him when you are not there as soon as you come in he wants nothing to do with him any longer for he only has eyes for you. You could talk to Rorschach at these times and explain that his behavior is not acceptable for they understand more than what we give them credit for. I am afraid I have no ideas on what to do to get him to step up onto you but he knows he has the upper hand and uses it to his advantage, maybe some of the other members will have some suggestions to help.

It is exciting when they finally start talking and now you will find it hard to shut him up but congrats on Sully finally getting with the program, how sweet it is.

Luv4jjt, what did you decide to do, are you going to take your brother's grey? -
I have seen this vid many times and it is the cutest thing but the man did get scratched, funny how that bird didn't much care who it was just was a horny little devil.
-
Josey doesn't much care for almonds either but I will give this unshelled version a try and cut the hole like you said Dave and see if she will be more receptive to want to eat them as I know they are good for her, thanks for sharing this technique of yours with us.

First time African Grey owner!
judygram replied to jamesmates's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
Hello Jamesmates and welcome to our family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing lots more about you and Henry. Henry is your first grey but do you have any other birds? Most of us here have more than one bird, some of us have more than one grey, it seems one only makes you hungry for more which is MBS, Multiple Bird Syndrome and it can happen to the best of us. Why don't you tell us more about Henry, how old is he, was he dna'd a male, I am assuming he is a male since his name is Henry. Do read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. Now all we need is some pictures of Henry as we love to admire each other's greys. -
Yes it is but usually if the birds are both healthy then the quarantine is usually not necessary. Your vet determined the new addition was healthy and your other bird obviously had been deemed healthy so he didn't see a problem so don't dismiss his advice on this one thing if otherwise he is a good vet. Usually when the bird comes from a home where there are lots of birds or you don't know much about the bird it is wise to do quarantine.

Cooper sounds good and he will be used to it soon, yes I have traveled with my fids before especially my grey Josey, she does just fine, chats and plays with a bell that is in her travel cage so she willingly goes into without any problem.
-
She may not really be aggressive just domineering and she has learned to get the upper hand with her previous owner because they were scared of her, if you show you are scared of her then she will dominate you too, watch her behavior and learn her body language as it will tell you a lot about how she is feeling at the moment. If you are confident around her then she will learn you are not afraid of her, I know the bites hurt but when she learns she doesn't get her way by biting then she will stop doing it so frequently, gain her trust and then you can work on making her understand that biting is not acceptable.

She does look adorable there standing on your shoulder, thanks for sharing the pics with us, cute dog too. I see her wings are clipped, are you gonna allow them to grow out?
-
Some people do 30 day and some insist on 45 days to quarantine a new bird before introducing it to the rest of the flock but remember you need to wash your hands between handling one bird and the other to keep down any contamination.
-
Every once in a while I notice that Josey has a scratch or spot on her head where she must have been hit by her bell she plays with, she sometimes attacks it with gusto as most do and when you play rough it usually shows, I wouldn't worry about it unless it swells.

Your grey does not hate you but the honeymoon phase may be over now and her true personality is showing, means you have to still offer her treats and do what it takes to earn her trust, this may take quite a while depending on her past but it is not an affront to you. Sit by her cage and talk to her and don't force her to do more than she is comfortable with right now, be patient with her and she will come around, most rehomed greys will react this way at first, give her lots of attention and let her know you are not going to hurt her. A grey's trust has to be earned as it is not freely given but the rewards are greyt.

That is one precious looking baby and the next 8 weeks will drag by, thanks for sharing the pic with us.
-
It will take a while as the wing feathers do not grow in all at once, usually several of them will be replaced then several more so that the bird is still capable of flight, the tail feathers do the same. In the wild a bird must be able to fly at all times and so they molt out at different stages so it may take a year or so before they are all replaced. Glad to hear you want to let Sunny's wing feathers grow out.

Can We Post Here About Someone Else's Lost Parrot?
judygram replied to MarcusCAG's topic in Lost & Found Bird Room
I guess the person who captured Little Man just didn't know any better but hopefully he will be found again by someone who will get in contact with the owner and they will be reunited, we do have members who live in Florida so the more people who know about it the better the chances are. -
Mom was very good to Took while you were away on vacation and it seems to have benefited you both, Took was very happy to have you back and your Mom has a new appreciation for Took, sounds like a win win all around.

Man you are getting good with that camera, love the slow motion vids, thanks for sharing them with us.

african grey - abu dhabi / dubai, UAE
judygram replied to dubaighost's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
Hello Dubaighost and welcome to our family, so glad you finally found the one for you and your family. Grey looks to be a very young Cag as Dave said and he pretty much answered your questions as he can be very thorough. For more information do read thru the many threads here and ask all the questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. Thanks for including a picture of your grey in your intro post. -
You have to respect Sunny's wishes if he doesn't want you to bother him at a particular time, they usually like things on their own terms and like us we have times we don't want to be bothered with, since he later acted as if it never happened he was more receptive of your advances. This is all perfectly normal grey behavior, just pay attention to the body language.
-
Thats great he lost some weight and being more active he may lose some more, he reminds me of Garfield the lasagna loving cat. Didn't mean to hijack this thread, opps.
-
I would think raw green beans would be perfectly safe, be sure to wash them thoroughly.
-
You got a smarty pants there talking at 5 months, you better watch out when she gets older as she will be smarter than you! Thanks for sharing that with us.

Jax looks like he really enjoyed that shower, how wonderful that he does for so many do not, thanks for sharing that with us.
