  1. He/she looks to be more than 9 months old, closer to 2 years of age to me but the plucking could be from anything, he/she is in a new to him environment so give him some time to settle down and don't focus on the plucking as they pick up on our emotions. About getting him a companion, forget that for they could never share the same cage, each grey has to have a separate cage they can call their own and forget about breeding them as pet greys do not make breeders. A pair of greys have to have privacy and the right conditions to mate, there is a lot more to the breeding thing than just putting them together. Now if you want another bird then get another bird but not as just a companion for the one you have now, I have 3 birds, a grey, a sun conure and a cockatiel, they each have their own cage but are in the same room so they are company for each other.
  2. "I think that shade of brown just goes with my beak, what do you think"

    Pellet Food

I give Harrison's High Potency pellets to my grey, she has been them almost her entire life and eats them readily. Some members do not feed any pellets preferring to provide a well balanced diet of vegetables, grains, legumes, nuts, seeds and other foods so they get the nutrients they need. I have never heard of pellets making a parrot aggressive, new one on me. I see this is your first post, why not introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us more about you and your grey.
  4. All I heard was a grey being a grey, vocalizations they make during the course of a day, greys are fairly quiet when you compare them to toos.
  5. Thanks for giving this grey a new forever home. The feathers will grow back but it will take a year or more as they molt out the wing feathers several at a time so just be patient, then I hope you are planning to leave her flighted for a bird was meant to fly and enjoy her wings. Is this your first parrot or do you have others? Just curious and I hope the person you are getting the grey from doesn't go out and get any more birds to mutilate.
  6. Lots of breeders keep their babies in plastic bins that have sides high enough they can't climb out of, be sure to put some kind of small stuffed animal or a small towel bundled up to resemble one so she will have something to snuggle up to. About the weaning, let her decide when she is ready for weaning, in other words continue to hand feed her formula for as long as she will eat it, we call it abundance feeding. You can soon start giving her small pieces of vegetables and such for her to try eating but give her the formula as long as she will accept it.
  7. I love the name Chicken and it does take time to earn trust but it will come. We give fruit sparingly, maybe a couple of times a week as it has lots of natural sugar but give vegetables every day, you can try the same ones different ways, raw, cooked, shredded, mashed or whatever way you can think of for sometimes they will eat a particular vegetable one certain way or not at all.
  8. Congrats on your new addition and what a sweetie he/she is, April won't get here soon enough if you are like the rest of us.
  9. ""Whereas Dave... now he just throws these things out there to see what happens. Then sits back & laughs. Truly brilliant! ;)"" Said Val. That's our Dave!!
  10. Hello EZFrag and welcome to our family. You have such a young baby but you have done the best thing to come here and ask questions, we have many knowledgeable members who can answer questions but none of us are avian vets so be sure to check on one in your area in case you need their services and do read thru the many threads in the nursery room as it will be of great help to you in the coming days and weeks.
  11. This is why we wish people would do their homework before plunging in and purchasing such a young bird but in your case that is moot now, be sure to find a good avian vet to turn to when needed and read as many of the threads in the nursery room so you will know what to expect, good luck to you and keep us updated.
  12. Well if you get some more good ones like the ones you have then she has a good chance of making the cover, she so pretty.
  13. I just want to say you have a beautiful grey, love that flight picture, thanks for sharing them with us.
  14. She knew how tired you were and she was very thoughtful to keep you company while you got your rest, good job Sophie.
  15. Josey burps and farts but they are notorious for repeating a sound they come to realize irritates you.
  16. Welcome home Mylo and hello to the rest of your life, may it be totally awesome.
  17. Hello Abz and welcome to our family. Yes you have a Cag and a handsome one at that, would love to hear more about him.
  18. You might want to pad the floor around his cage for the time being so he doesn't hurt himself when he jumps off, put some towels or blankets on the floor so he doesn't split his keel when he lands hard.
  19. My grey was clipped before I brought her home and then she either pulled or chewed off the feathers on one wing preventing flight for several years, now she is flying and though she is not as proficient at it as she would have been if she had been left flighted in the first place but she is getting better at it all the time. I don't clip the wings on any of my 3 birds but one only flies if startled, one loves to fly and is very good at it and then my grey is a work in progress.
  20. Well as they say, "good things come to those who wait" must have had greys in mind for it can take a while as you found out, grey time is slow time and you have had the patience to wait until she was ready but oh how sweet it is.
  21. You do good work, both in the rescue and this video, it really gives the viewer an understanding of how you feel, how most all of us feel, Marden would be so proud.
  22. Congratulations on getting this wonderful gift, that was so nice of Matt. I have seen that aviary when I went to visit their sanctuary a few years ago, a wonderful place and I know you will put it to good use.
  23. Hello Reptoman and welcome to our family. You have come to the right place to find out all you can about greys for we all live with at least one and the forum is full of stories.
  24. Hello Rachael and welcome to our family. If you like parrot stories then you will enjoy reading this thread: http://www.greyforums.net/forums/showthread.php?192443-Gilbert-is-home Its the story of one grey who was rehomed several times and was in abusive situations, she has come a long way since she came to Dee's home but what a blossoming she has done. Would love to see a picture of two of your grey, Issac.
  25. I believe you will get this bird and you will give it the best home it could possibly ever have for you seem to know what you are doing. I hate how they capture wild birds for sale in some countries and maybe one day it will be a thing of the past but at least this one will have a good home. About the intensity of the grey shading, my grey is very light colored, she is much lighter than other greys I have seen.
