  1. Yes herbs make great foraging greens. I tie mint and basil up for my birds and they have fun ripping it all up. I pile plentiful herbs in a big bowl with nuts and peas and noodles hidden underneath and they dig and chew and play for ages. A good thing to do when I have to put them in their cage for a while if I am going out.
  2. I just want to save him...does someone live near the poor baby that could make them an offer? I don't even live in the US . If you got some good feather vitamins and put him on a good diet and misted him, kept him clean, stress free there likely would be no need for huge vet bills. Please someone save him:(
  3. This EZ clean stuff is what you spray on AFTER you clean so next time clean up is effortless. I use vinegar and water for cleaning too, but requires elbow grease too! With this EZ clean stuff, everything just slides off, no kidding!!
  4. I have discovered the most amazing product! You all may know of it already but it is a revelation to me! It is called EZ Clean Cage Shield. You spray it on cage bars, seed skirts or wherever poop lands. Clean up is effortless! It was $4.99 for 8 oz. at my local pet shop. It is made by Kaytee. Love it!!
  5. Talonsis is verryy clever. This is a great idea! Don't know if I would wear a tee shirt saying "Bite Me" on the front of a shirt at my age though;)
  6. I like the idea of having www.greyforums, member of the "Bite Me" club on the shirt somewhere
  7. I kind of like the picture under my name, as Quinn will look like that when he won't bite...most of the time! What about his picture and under it.. "I won't bite"" and on the back with a more naughty looking grey saying.. "THIS time" sorry I am not photo shop savy:blush:
  8. Ok I need to join the club. Quinn bites me when I least expect it. When I am cleaning up a spill in the cage...a bite to the ear. When I am cleaning up a spill in the cage across from him, a bite in the butt! Ouch! I know now if I say "step up" and he does not lift his foot, that he will bite me. He loves my husband now, and used to hate him and bite him.He still wants to sit with me and will play towel peek a boo, but I am nervous to let him sit on my shoulder now. He used to, until he switched his affections. He wants to be a good boy but the devil gets into him sometimes:evil:When he bites me I make him do step ups. My grandson calls them punishment pushups! Jiggy is my sweetest bird. She is so gentle...with me...but will bite my husband in a heartbeat. These greys!!
  9. Quinn hates to have a bath too, but...I have a square dishpan that I half fill and float a ball and some plastic toys in. He eventually will go in it and once he is wet, he goes to town having a bath. Mind you, he does not do this all the time and I am forced to get out "the mister" which he hates, big time.Jiggy will go in the dish pan most of them time. More than Quinn does. I mist my amazons as they do not like a bath tub but love misting. If my pics fit on here, which they never do, I would send you a pic of one of my amazons soaking wet...so cute.My conures love a bath and happily have one everyday.
  10. My greys like to sleep on a little platform perch that hangs on the side of the cage. Perhaps your baby would feel more secure with one of those in his cage until he gets his footing? I got mine at Petsmart (ontario Canada) not sure where you live but I bet most pet shops would have them.
  11. My male Quinn loved both my husband and I the first year, hated my husband for the next 2 now he tolerates me and loves my husband! Go figure eh?
  12. My breeder said my blue crown was a female by visual assessment because of head shape, eyes yada yada. Well, Lucy is a boy per DNA so I don't believe any one can visually sex these parrots that are coloured the same. My male grey is smaller, darker, has a flater head and not even half the vocab of my female grey. My female looks just like the pictures of Harrison! Go figure.
  13. I have both greys and amazons. I think if you want to take a bird places with you , you would be better off with an amazon. Greys can be nervous. My amazons happily play on top of their cage all day when I am at work and are only noisey around supper time or in the evening if they want my attention...but when they are noisey, they are really noisey, but never for long.Another bird you might consider is a conure. I have blue crown conures. they are very personable and mine sits on my shoulde when I am out gardening shouting at any one who goes by " Hi Rickey" (his name!)Pick up the movie "Paulie" and see what you think. If I could only have one bird, it would be a blue crown. (sorry grey people)I have 3 of them and they are loaded with personality and talk up a storm. They travel well and unlike my bigger parrots, will actually talk in front of people!
  14. I have named my greys Jiggy and Quinn. Jiggy is after Jean Sebastian Geguere, the goalie for The Anaheim Ducks hockey team and Quinn was named after the former manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs Hockey team, Pat Quinn. I have a cockatiel named Domi after a former hockey player for the toronto Maple Leafs Tie Domi. I have a bit of a hockey theme going here with my flock and await a female blue crowned conure which I will name Miika after Miika Kiprosoff, another goalie. I have 3 other blue crowns named Rickey and Lucy and Tyson. I have 2 double yellow headed amazons age 27, named Tommy after Tom Selleck and BJ after the Toronto Blue Jays baseball team, both popular when they were babies.
  15. What a kind person you are CD. I feel that you are a nurse by profession? Takes one to know one..It is truly amazing that birds in need find us. I have 22 birds living with me. Some as a result of needing a home or someone calling me through someone else that knew I was a birdie person. Your little friend is now sitting on a loved ones shoulder who is your gaurdian angel I'll bet.
  16. Thanks for the info. Jackie/birdgranna
  17. Tari where did you get that wonderful big ball your grey is in?
  18. Thanks for posting my pics CD. My greys aren't as funny as some of the others but I bet they get into more mischief!
  19. sorry..can't seem to get it to accept any of my pictures through browse:unsure: birdgranna a bit of computer idiot:lol:
  20. My greys say more funny things than do but here are a few pics if they post ok. It is fun to have contests...
  21. Certainly water bottles are better but my female grey destoys it or knocks it to the ground, so I have had to go back to bowls.I have ordered a very sturdy bowl that she will not be able to dismantle or destroy. It is from ExoticWings. They have a website.
  22. I have an amazon who rests on horizontal bars. She is obese due to hypothyroid. She is healthy otherwise according to my avian vet. She has had extensive tests to confirm this. Is your bird overweight?
  23. This is absolutely not good. Your CAG must see a vet. Perhaps his beak is thinning from a deficiency of some sort and is soft enough to be wearing down. Nerve damage could occur so he should be seen by a vet.
  24. Your bird should not be out of his cage at night. It is not safe especially as his environment is new. I agreee with Joe, locking him up for a week will do nothing except make him miserable. When you let him out of his cage, each time, make a fuss of him and tell him a greeting you would like him to repeat...one that he will associate with coming out of his cage for time with you. You must be very patient. greys are very sensitive. You have a chance to bond with your bird. Don't ruin it with impatience.
  25. CAG's need 12 hours of sleep at night and 12 hours of good light during the day, ie: ultraviolet light. they also will roost on their own through out the day, likely when you are at work. So they are the perfect bird really. Amazons need the same.
