1. Yikes! HUGE PHOTO!! sorry...but at least you can see Quinnie's wings.
2. One of my greys wings do not grow in. He had chlamydia as a baby and came to me with very clipped wings. I give him a feather vitamin every day (Nekton)and mist him with Aloe vera juice and water. He is a very good eater and eats lots of fruits and veggies , nuts, and Zupreem pellets. He is also very nervous and spooks easily. I hate to see him thud to the floor. He usually breaks a blood feather. It seems they just start to grow in and they fall out or are knocked out. I have done everything the vet has told me to do yet his wing feathers do not grow in properly. He is almost 5 yrs. old. I guess this will be his lot in life...or is there any other treatment that any of you know of?

biting

Something is wrong. Take him to the vet. towel him, put him in a crate and get him there asap. When my amazon was sick this past summer her behaviour completely changed to. She could have died had I left it. Move quickly on this.
4. I did hear something once about millet. I believe it was a millet seed that was imbedded in the windpipe and became infected. Not sure of the details but I remember I made a mental note to self not to feed my big birds millet again.
5. Once my amazon got hung up in her cage from a claw that was too long.I felt terible. I have all my large birds claws and beaks done twice a year at the vet.

monkey nuts

Actually, here in Canada there is a treat called Monkey Nuts. They look like dog biscuits. My birds won't eat them. Just a reminder for those that don't already know...my amazon got aspergillosis from peants in the shell and nearly died.
7. By the way, my vet's son contracted chlamydia fom a bird.
8. My male grey came to us with chlamydia. He was falling all the time and his wings were not growing in properly. After testing it was discovered that he had a calcium deficiency and the dreaded chlamydia. All my birds had to be treated. Both he and my other grey had to go to the vets once a week for 6 weeks for an injection. He was the first and last bird I ever purchased from a pet shop. We just felt so sorry for him there all those weeks and one day, on impulse I bought him. He remains a very skittish bird although very sweet if you go slow with him. His wings have never grown in properly. He is 4 1/2 yrs. now. He is also small for a CAG. These things are as a result of the chlamydia. My greys are both very suspicious of new things and thrive on routine. I bought one of those jolly balls with tons of stuff hanging from it for them. I have slowly been moving it closer to them and yesterday I put it in their room. They are eyeing it cautiously but are not freaking out over it.They like toys but take a long time to actually go near or on them. Greys are such fragile birds it seems.
9. Jiggy will call "Jay !"(this is what my husband calls me) in an annoyed sounding voice , in my husbands voice. If I do not instantly reply, she will make the sound of the phone ringing and call me to the phone also in my husbands voice.
10. This is soooo informative! My female Jiggy has been literally hanging upside down and saying her whole vocabulary every night for me. I thought she was just prolonging bed time. She longs to be cuddled and petted. Normally she will gently take my hand in her beak and move it away. She is 5. I have a male age 4. They are in the same cage. They have be together all their lives.I have also noticed the male being more nippy than usual and shaking. He heads for his hut at bedtime or when a situation upsets him. He has always been nervous but seems more so at the moment. Other wise he is eating and pooping ok and is healthy per recent vet visit. If Jiggy is in the mating mood I don't think Quinn is. Is it ok to keep them together?
11. My 2 DYH amazons who are 27 yrs old only say 4 things....and they have said them for years. My greys are yakin away in the same room yet they never repeat anything they say.
12. my guys all love hot peppers and have them almost everyday. But if you accept a kiss after they have eaten one...yowza:woohoo:
13. How much time will your bird be spending in his cage? The bigger the better if not just for sleeping. Must be able to spread his wings in it and move around comfortably. A flat top cage is better as you can add a playtop if your cage does not have one. Dome top seems such a waste of space to me. Have you looked for a used one? I have few good deals with cages. Sometimes you can get a bigger used cage for less money than you would spend on a new smaller one. I find lots of good deals on Kijiji here in Canada but not sure what sites you have where you live.
14. Mine will get a turkey bone with some meat on it.They love it and devour the entire thing. Good for them too. Also, the ntural tryptopan in the turkey will tire them out and hopefully will have a good snooze when grandkids are here...always stressful for them when kids are here.
15. Cute guys. Here is my Ellie.

Post edited by: Talon, at: 2008/02/23 17:37
16. I notice Indy has an open band. I believe that indicates she is an import? One of my conures had such a band and I had it removed for safety reasons. so easy to get caught on something. I am so happy you are making her life now worth living.
17. I like the name Indy. I have a conure called Indigo, nickmamed Indy. why not try that as it is close and I am sad that he will lose his only identity, that being his little name "Indy". I bet he does know it but has been so sad he just didn't care. You are a star for taking him into your family.
