OK, marmite, lima beans AND boiled okra:sick:
-
That stuff is the worst thing I have ever tasted with the possible exception of lima beans:sick: so my birds will likely never taste it;)

My amazon was sick this past summer. She started screaming and each time I came near her or one of the other birds did, she got louder. This was a sign of her not feeling well. I thought she had broken something as it was the kind of scream. Apparently when birds are sick it is their way of scaring off predators so the vet told me.

For the believers of "the other side" read "The Eagle and the Rose" by Rosemary Althea.

Is that a shot only for baby birds?

Interested to know how Tank got his name.

This could be an indication of calcium deficiency or chlamydia. Better have some blood work done. How very very kind of you to give him a safe and more sociable home. Poor little soul. Lucky he found you.

You are dead right CD. Have noticed a few boundaries crossed having nothing to do with greys. Thank you for righting this.

I have amazons and greys. although they do not really "play" with each other they talk to each other , finish each others whistles and try to snitch each others treats. I think the 2 birds you are thinking of would most certainly be good company even if not directly interacting.

I am wondering if coconut oil would be as good as it has the same qualities as red palm. I can get coconut oil here in Canada but cannot find the red palm.Does anyone know?

Keep your hands out of her space till she is more comfortable. Good advice from all the others. I have a bird that is hand fearful. I sat by her open cage day after day and eventually she came out and at first perched on the back, then the arm of the chair and eventually on my shoulder. She will let me work in her cage now but still will not step up on my hand. She is 7. she is a blue crowned conure. She is much better now, 6 months later. Don't give up. Everything is so strange to her after having no upsets for 10 years. She will come around. I have two amazons that are 27. they came to me at age 25, seed eating and nervous. they now are lovely friendly birds that eat pellets;) Patience.

Judy seems to be a compassionate person. Although I don't really "know" her I feel a connection when I read her posts.

where in the world is that aloe vera!!!?
birdgranna replied to TinyTimneh's topic in The GREY Lounge
With the AVI RAIN you don't need to spray on much. I hold them on one hand and hang on to their toes and spray with the other. They will occasionally bathe in a aquare plastic dish pan 1/4 full. I float a ball in it and sometimes they get bobbing and then get right in! -

Canuck to the rescue! I could not find aloe vera juice either but I did find "AVI RAIN" at the vets. It is a natural bird bath spray. their web site is www.exoticdvm.com. My greys hate to be misted but too bad as they are prone to be very dusty. -
You really do want those cigars don't you Joe! Well, you are the beneficiary of Fidel Castros will and are left all the tobacco factories in Cuba. But, when Castro dies all the cubans leave Cuba and you have no one to make the cigars.

I have 2 old amazons that learned to talk with recordings. These phrases are pretty much all they say and they don't know what they are saying, just that they are vocalizing. Greys, on the other hand remember, have cognitive abilities and associate the words they learn with an activity or action. So recordings would not be good for a grey as they would just be mimicing and wasting their huge intellegence. They will pick up things you say that they liked the tone of or something that excited you or made you happy. Mine for instance say "Be Quiet Rickey!" whenever my conure is screeching or say "I love you" if they are caught doing something naughty, knowing it will make me melt and laugh. They are too smart for recordings. Even though you are away, they will be listening keenly while you are home. They probably roost while you are out. awaitng your return.

Harrison has become sooo nervous and jumpy
birdgranna replied to HeatherStrella's topic in The GREY Lounge
All of the above are very possible causes. Hating to be negative, I must tell you that Quinn my male started acting spooky and flying off at the slightest sound or movement when he had low calcium levels. He kept doing this so I took him to the vet and she did a full blood panel and found this. Although his calcium is normal now he is still spooks easily. He came from a pet shop and also came with chlamydia which all my birds had to be treated for. I figured that was why he spooked so easily. I was thankful I took him to the vet. Had I ignored his behavior he would have gotten very sick. Just sharing so you can keep an eye on him. -
Hello Debbie. I am going to post this as well as send it to you as it is so beautiful, perhaps we should share... Jackie The Rainbow Bridge There is a bridge connecting heaven and earth. It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of its many colours. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge, there is a land of meadows, hills and valleys with lush green grass. When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place. There is always food and water and warm spring weather. The old and frail animals are young again. Those who are maimed are whole again. They play all day with each other. There is only one thing missing. They are not with their Special Person who loved them on earth. So, each day they run and fly and play until the day comes when one suddenly looks up! Noses twitch! Ears are up! Eyes are bright and staring! One suddenly runs or flys from the group...YOU have been seen! When you and your special friend meet, you will take him or her in your arms and embrace. Your face will be kissed again and again and again and you look once more into the eyes of your trusting pet. There you cross the Rainbow Bridge together, never again to be separated. Author Unknown I can never read this with a dry eye. I have birds and dogs and horses waiting for me at the Rainbow Bridge God Bless all our departed pets/companions. Hope your pain is easing Debbie.

oops. wrong person!was on wrong page. birdgranna still a bit of a computer idiot. I like to hear what lovemygreys has to say as she is obviously very knowledgable and has a nice way of putting things.

Although I do not really "know" anyone here, I get a kick out of rdnkparamedic21's comments. I especially loved his little ditty that said "support a paramedic...run with scissors!"I laughed so hard and told so many people that quote.

Give the amazon a good forever home. He will bond to you and learn from you and love you forever.

I have taken Karma from people who are tiresome in debates with whom I do not agree. If people do not let things go and keep hammering at some topic , I take karma and do not go back to that topic. I have given Karma to positive comments, and people who have made a positive contribution to a post. I do not like negativity. I come on this site to pass time enjoyably and learn from all of you.

I named my greys on a hockey theme. We are big hockey(ice) fans here! Jiggy, my female, was named after Jean Sebastian Gigeure, the goalie of the Anaheim Ducks. His team members nicknamed him"Jiggy". Quinn, my male, was named by my grandson after Pat Quinn, the then manager of The Toronto Maple Leafs, the team that we cheer for. He thought that was appropriate as we have several hockey names for our other birds too and that they needed a manager;)

Get both. Amazons are smart, loving birds. Mine are cleaner than my greys and MUCH better behaved. Their vocabulary is limited.if you spend time with Amazons they will learn to say many words. The greys are quick to pick up words and phrases and are very , very smart. They have different personalities of course, just like people. It would be wonderful to have your uncles amazon. What a fantastic offer! You will never stop at one parrot anyway once you get yours;) . So get both
