  1. Your aviary situation sounds exactly like our aviary situation when we started. We get to 110 in the summers here with brutal humidity so I had to put it under a tree. I also have a mister and box fan for the 95+ days. Check out my thread about GreycieMae's aviary. It documents the whole build process. I also have a parts list on my facebook album dedicated to her aviary if you decide to the go the route we did. Go big or go bigger - haaaa!!! Miss GreycieMae's Aviary
  2. Have you heard about 'Lucky'? She's a bird that lives on a boat sailing the Caribbean. They have several videos on youtube of their adventures. Not sure if they're still doing it as I haven't kept up with them for a couple of years... This one is probably my favorite:
  3. The last two pics of Alfie hanging in the window are beautiful. Just what a Grey would love! Good job.
  4. What a cutie. That's funny he does the horse 'purr'. I was expecting him to do the 'neigh' after he said he was a horse.
  5. They are very sweet like that. There haste been a couple times where I've been out of it and had to lay around for a while and GreycieMae will usually sit on my head while I sleep. She'll be very quiet too which is not her MO.
  6. Well I got you guys beat then, i got my birds in the late 80s! Sadly only one is still alive and living with my aunt until she passes. The advice them was to butcher one wing so they fly in a circle to the ground. Stupid stupid stupid....
  7. Awww, she's looking great and really fitting in. We have those wicked storms here too and on up into Oklahoma. This time of year I always am on top of the forecast and if there is any chance of the destructive stuff headed in I move all my cages to the non-window side of their bird room, the heavy curtains go up to catch any glass and everybirdy goes on lockdown for the day. I couldn't handle coming home and a window has been blown out and my birds are gone. Wife has been after me for a few years to put up some kind of expanded metal safety screen as well as storm windows in their room.
  8. I keep looking on google maps to see if they've renamed to the town to Parrotdise yet. Any news on that?
  9. It's good that you have a snuggle muffins in Kya to get your fix. You can focus on moving at the speed Gracie needs without having to wish and hope for a Grey snuggle. I so wish I had two Greys. I think they do better with another of their own kind to get in mental lockstep with. One day my Odie may come back to me but until then...
  10. Haahaaa! Can't be seen loving on someone other than the favorite. How dare you try and step her up in front of Daddy! Sounds like that girl has landed in a Grey paradise. She so deserves it. Her pic she looks so proud of herself. Just love her!
  11. You might try some warm chamomile tea on Gracie. Our GreycieMae guzzles it like a camel in the desert. I think it knocks her out for bed time.
  12. Something I just read in another thread reminded me of another benefit of Facebook, not that I'm trying to justify it over this forum or anything: there are TONS of people out there just like me. When I first got my Grey and the other rascals we have, I felt like maybe something just wasn't right in my head. I had this overwhelming feeling to treat these guys like they are my flesh and blood children. I dote on them. I smother them with affection. I worry about them. They are pretty much the majority of what I think about on a daily basis. After getting onto several groups and seeing how other's feel about their birds...well now, I'm completely normal!
  13. Oh oh....GreycieMae wants a website! You know how the car mechanics car never runs? Sort of the case at our house.
  14. The problem with the Grey groups on FB is they are too dang big. 'African Grey Parrots' is almost 17,000 members now. Really hard to keep up with a page that is that huge. When things get really dead around here, i.e. I can logon for several days in a row and there's nothing new, I start lamenting the FB groups because I know that's why a lot of these forums are now pretty empty. My Caique forum that was really neat has pulled the plug. Also a quail forum that I used to frequent a ton, I just checked: last post was May 8th of 2016. All stolen by Facebook. Facebook is great for pics, videos and what I refer to as entertainment. What you lose is the searchable real information that ends up getting archived. These forums are the only way to do that. Now for some entertainment that I saw on the African Grey Parrots page: Remind you of anybirdys you know?
  15. Great write-up and so nice to 'meet' Gracie. It must be so neat to have two Greys to interact with each other. I dream of the day... She looks very sweet the poor thing seems to have been through a lot. I'll bet she settles in a lot quicker with just Kya there to show her the ropes and keep her well entertained. I'm not sure what a good alternative is for photobucket. I didn't even think photobucket was still around. When I snap shots on my android phone they automatically sync to my google photos account. I can then download them and upload here. However their 'shareable link' isn't compatible with the software here so it's not as easy as it could be...
  16. Corky sounds just like our GreycieMae. I really think she cues off of me to determine who to like and who not to like. There is one person who came over to our house that got the fur standing up on my back and that's also who GreycieMae bit, and she's not a biter. I think she sensed I couldn't stand the person. We're looking for a way to travel with our gang. Would love to have a 'toymover' (rv with a garage) so they would have their very own travelling aviary, but they cost about as much as a cheap house. As in your house, these birds are the center of our lives. I was a ship without a rudder until they came along.
  17. So let me get this straight: you got a free cage, idiot got paid and ebay or paypal is eating the total cost?
  18. Are you sure you don't have pigeons? I can't imagine what it's like to have a bird that doesn't get into ever dang thing. JUST this morning, and this is a daily routine, GreycieMae: tossed a plastic container off the counter top that I missed not putting away, opened the lids on all three of my wife's sugar/flour/whatever containers, pulled the lid off the kettle and tossed it to the floor (first time she's done that), got into the cabinet and found a bag of cookable treats that I was hiding and poked two holes in it.
  19. It's like christmas morning when you're a kid...never gets here fast enough.
  20. I agree. Start a long-running thread, that way I don't have to be the new guy and can get in on the beginning of one, instead of being lost all the time because I can't go back and read 500 pages. It will help document the transformation and you'll probably get a kick out of going back and seeing what happened that you've forgotten about.
  21. Such a sweet face. Just keep sweet talking that one. Love will win that one over.
  22. Just be sure to let Vincent use whichever restroom Vincent identifies with
