  1. And 500g GreycieMae wants to know who this vet is that's busy fat-shaming Greys!
  2. Has it really been that long? Seems like you just got her! What you're describing doesn't sound normal. Is she always like that? Does she ever calm down? Mine will get jumpy at times but it doesn't last. And she gets super calm and lovey-dovey in the evenings. Is she flighted? You mention she gets down and walks so I'm assuming not. This may have some to do with her jumpiness and not wanting to be put down. Our Caique was butchered by the breeder/feeder we got him from and he absolutely hated being put down. He would fight it and hang on with all three of his grabbies. That trait has lasted to this day although it's lessened even though he is now a fully skilled flier. All of my other birds are flighted and not have this issue.
  3. No problem. Sukei is always welcome to come have a visit in Miss GrecycieMae's aviary too. She'll even order up Sterling Ranch hamburgers off the grill for all the guests. If you've never had mountain fed beef off the New Mexico mountains in Chama, you haven't had beef! My Mom & Dad keep us well stocked when they come for visits!
  4. Just this morning I was chatting with a guy from Brazil on FB that regularly posts videos of his talker. He said he used the Dr. Irene Pepperberg Model/Rival technique with is Grey. I've been tempted to try something like that but everyone in my house has very short attention spans - we'd probably last a day or two. Once we get bored of something we move on to other things like swinging from ropes. GreycieMae loves to get a good push and swing from her ropes. Or riding the ceiling fans, nothing beats riding the ceiling fans. Or digging in the kitchen cabinets, you never know what you'll find in the kitchen cabinets after mommy has been to the store.... But like I told him, I think she trained me vs. the other way around. She knows how to make me come get her. She knows how to make me go get her a treat just by pulling on my cheek. She knows how to make me go get her water. She definitely did the bulk of the training in this relationship.
  5. Oh great, now I have to watch as yet another super cute Grey, with a super cute voice torments me with the fact that mine is mute as a fence post. This is going to be tough watching this one but I think I can do it
  6. Well, I don't live directly in Dallas either but just north in Allen. Sukei will be a neighbor!!! Would love to meet him!
  7. GreycieMae always wakes up and is super sweet. She always asks for kisses, never fail. However my Caique is a crap-shoot. His mood is entirely dependent on the position of the stars, temperature, Dow Jones Industrial Average the previous closing and how much mommy-time he has had in the last 48 hours.
  8. DALLAS! Do you live here in Dallas? I'd LOVE to get a photo op with Sukei!
  9. I'm trying to figure out who 'Dee' is. And I'm sure it was her Grey pulling the strings there. We all know how benevolent our Greys are (LOLz!)
  10. GreycieMae giving my daughter a lecture Trying our best to look hard but she's far too cute to pull off the look Posing for the new Lowes policy on pets - excellent work GreycieMae Super annoyed that she has to share with those other two bozos
  11. Fly free sweet Gypsy. We have a little cockatiel named Stevie. They are definitely little characters.
  12. What I've found helpful is to network a little on some local FB parrot groups. Here we have North Texas Parrots and a few others that I regularly frequent. Then you meet those people at bird fairs, see their posts, you get a sort of feel for who they are - kind of like here at GF. However GF is very low attendence so there's likely no one here in your area. Where do you live by the way? I doubt anywhere near me.
  13. This is shocking to hear. He was one of the ones that didn't comment much from the time I joined just a short while back but you could sense he knew his Grey knowledge. Rest in Peace Dave007.
  14. That's awesome to hear. I hope the new Beau is a bird person. That makes all the difference in the world. Top of my list of must have personality traits.
  15. I would fix the door and the fan too. They really love their ability to fly even though I've recently found out they're lazy lil butt turds just like us. GreycieMae would much rather be carried to her potty spot but if someone is getting into food in the kitchen she will high tail it in there. I've only ever had one incident where my Grey flew out the door and that was because my boneheaded sister-in-law left two doors open and Greycie knew I was leaving and as usual was stressed because she wanted to go. However we had a recent incident in the last couple of weeks where our somewhat new little conure flew right out the door. She, unlike my bigger birds, is impossible to hear until she's right next to you. I had her in the bird room and failed to make sure the door 'clicked' shut. I was moving cages outside for cleaning and was out there for about 10 minutes about 100 feet into my backyard. She abruptly landed on my shoulder - "Hi!". That was the day I bought and installed one of those magnetic bug screens that click shut after you pass through them. Not only do they deter flying past them, they are a great reminder for people, us included, that there may be a bird on the loose and to be careful.
  16. Sounds like she was spoiled rotten as she should have been!
  17. I had the same problem. I was surprised at their complete lack of interest in flying. It looks so fun I keep telling them if I could fly I would be going round and round. After tossing them they however fly to the closest place to park their butts and that's where they sit. So I started using these foam disks to toss at them and keep them moving. I don't mind doing my drill instructor routine to keep the troops motivated. With just myself, I was getting more exercise than they were. Greycie found she could glide off the top of the basketball support and with a few little flaps, she's back on the opposing side. So I commissioned some help to toss a disk and force her to move on and go around some. There's nowhere in that gym that they can get to that I can't get at them with the disk. Eventually they're going to be within reach. However the two mid-size nuggets would fly to their mother without hesitation.
  18. You have an imposter. Do a double check in those feathers and make sure there isn't a cat or something masquerading as a Grey bird.
  19. I finally worked up the nerve to launch my conure, Tinkerbell. She's a tricky one. She is the most recall-able of all the birds by far, however only I can recall her. I can't rely on breaking out my ace-in-the-hole card, Mommy, to come in and get Tinkerbell out of the rafters like I can with Toby and Rio. GreycieMae is my least recall-able bird as she does whatever the hell she wants and anything I ask is merely a suggestion. I think she's really a feathered cat sometimes. So since Tinkerbell will only come to me...I can't use the little foam disks to keep her flying, I can't risk breaking her trust or I may be there till the school opens up and I have to get them to use their lift to go to the ceiling and get her for me. That would probably be the last time I could ever set foot in the school. Therefore, I commissioned my daughter to help launch her and all we did was cross-court flying. No roundy-round the gym like I can with the others.
  20. That would be really really hard to leave baby alone and let him get some sleep. I'd be kissy kissy that face non-stop.
  21. Love the sweet little contented baby face!
  22. Welcome. Trust me...none of us care where you're from. Everyone here is ALL about the love of the Grey bird. We love photos and stories. They are what make like greyt. Thanks for joining! Looks like you've got a really sweet one there.
