Alcohol fixes everything!

We're excited for you. No panic here!

Fly free sweet Gypsy. We have a little cockatiel named Stevie. They are definitely little characters.

What I've found helpful is to network a little on some local FB parrot groups. Here we have North Texas Parrots and a few others that I regularly frequent. Then you meet those people at bird fairs, see their posts, you get a sort of feel for who they are - kind of like here at GF. However GF is very low attendence so there's likely no one here in your area. Where do you live by the way? I doubt anywhere near me.

This is shocking to hear. He was one of the ones that didn't comment much from the time I joined just a short while back but you could sense he knew his Grey knowledge. Rest in Peace Dave007.

That's awesome to hear. I hope the new Beau is a bird person. That makes all the difference in the world. Top of my list of must have personality traits.

still able to fly clipped wings - no trauma

I would fix the door and the fan too. They really love their ability to fly even though I've recently found out they're lazy lil butt turds just like us. GreycieMae would much rather be carried to her potty spot but if someone is getting into food in the kitchen she will high tail it in there. I've only ever had one incident where my Grey flew out the door and that was because my boneheaded sister-in-law left two doors open and Greycie knew I was leaving and as usual was stressed because she wanted to go. However we had a recent incident in the last couple of weeks where our somewhat new little conure flew right out the door. She, unlike my bigger birds, is impossible to hear until she's right next to you. I had her in the bird room and failed to make sure the door 'clicked' shut. I was moving cages outside for cleaning and was out there for about 10 minutes about 100 feet into my backyard. She abruptly landed on my shoulder - "Hi!". That was the day I bought and installed one of those magnetic bug screens that click shut after you pass through them. Not only do they deter flying past them, they are a great reminder for people, us included, that there may be a bird on the loose and to be careful. -
Sounds like she was spoiled rotten as she should have been!

I had the same problem. I was surprised at their complete lack of interest in flying. It looks so fun I keep telling them if I could fly I would be going round and round. After tossing them they however fly to the closest place to park their butts and that's where they sit. So I started using these foam disks to toss at them and keep them moving. I don't mind doing my drill instructor routine to keep the troops motivated. With just myself, I was getting more exercise than they were. Greycie found she could glide off the top of the basketball support and with a few little flaps, she's back on the opposing side. So I commissioned some help to toss a disk and force her to move on and go around some. There's nowhere in that gym that they can get to that I can't get at them with the disk. Eventually they're going to be within reach. However the two mid-size nuggets would fly to their mother without hesitation.

You have an imposter. Do a double check in those feathers and make sure there isn't a cat or something masquerading as a Grey bird.

I finally worked up the nerve to launch my conure, Tinkerbell. She's a tricky one. She is the most recall-able of all the birds by far, however only I can recall her. I can't rely on breaking out my ace-in-the-hole card, Mommy, to come in and get Tinkerbell out of the rafters like I can with Toby and Rio. GreycieMae is my least recall-able bird as she does whatever the hell she wants and anything I ask is merely a suggestion. I think she's really a feathered cat sometimes. So since Tinkerbell will only come to me...I can't use the little foam disks to keep her flying, I can't risk breaking her trust or I may be there till the school opens up and I have to get them to use their lift to go to the ceiling and get her for me. That would probably be the last time I could ever set foot in the school. Therefore, I commissioned my daughter to help launch her and all we did was cross-court flying. No roundy-round the gym like I can with the others.

That would be really really hard to leave baby alone and let him get some sleep. I'd be kissy kissy that face non-stop.

Love the sweet little contented baby face!

Welcome. Trust me...none of us care where you're from. Everyone here is ALL about the love of the Grey bird. We love photos and stories. They are what make like greyt. Thanks for joining! Looks like you've got a really sweet one there.

Thought I added those details, I was drinking a little when I posted. When I first took them in there I had thoughts of "how the hell am I going to get them back". As is my style I threw caution to the wind and threw my birds to the rafters. I'll figure out how to get them back later HAAAHAAA! The only reason we were there is my wife had work to do, so she was not in the gym rather she was in her office. After the first hour little Toby started to get tired of the game and kept flying to the narrow windows in the doors as that's where he kept seeing mother when she would peek in to check on us. So I knew I had him covered. I figured Rio would follow Toby. That left GreycieMae. When mommy came in and called Rio and Toby, they immediately floated down from the windows to her. It was amazing to watch. Then I had her call Greycie and with a little prompting to get her off her lazy behind, she flew down to mommy as well.

$100 for a beak and nail trim? Are macaws that hard to do or is that a severe case of highway robbery? Takes me about 3 minutes per bird except my Jardines simply because I have to add a little time to clean and disinfect wounds (mine not his). Your situation with this house and property is dragging on but it will all be water under the bridge soon. My wife keeps yapping about Decatur, even last night. I haven't even told her you guys are moving there. That would be awesome if we got located in that area too. Birds of a feather flocking together! Somebirdy is just exhausted thinking about all that...

The pattern they leave on the remnants always remind of beavers!

This point in the video is after about an hour of them flying. When I first threw them in there they went round and round and round. I have another short video of Greycie as she was attempting to land on one of the vertical supports and it didn't quite work out so well so she doubles back and soars over my head. The power of her flight was truly impressive. She is a hefty heifer after all and she can get the pound+ of African Grey up to super sonic speed awfully quick when she wants to. I'll edit the video in here when it's available. *Looks like I deleted that video - dang*
-
It's not quite free-flying but it's as close as I want to risk with my babies...
-
GreycieMae farts all the damn time. And it's still funny everytime she does it. She has a knack for doing it when she's being told what to do e.g. "GreycieMae leave Toby alone" *fart* "GreycieMae get out of the kitchen" *fart* GreycieMae get off Tinkerbells cage *fart*

Better be careful what you say around that one!

That's great to hear. He's just gone to boarding school, that's all. Can't wait to see pics all reunited.

Confiscating Sukei will lead to a lot of hate-filled pen pals. I hope they have other things to do.
