1. I was wondering if the birds finally had a successful mutiny over there in Parrotdise. Let me know how those cats work out. I was considering getting a mean ol barn cat to round up the rats around here and march them into the next world but I was reading some homesteading forum thread that they were kind of hit-or-miss. Some cats will go after rats, some will just set up rummy nights and get real chummy with them. Everytime I wipe out the population here, another one springs up within a few weeks.
2. Olive seems to be having a very interesting life there!!
3. She generally spends about 5 minutes playing in the ice and then will go sit on a perch and warm up, which doesn't take long at 100 degrees, then she's right back in it. Rinse and repeat until there's no ice left and that's when she will tire of it. Now what else you expect a girl to do when she's supervising Daddy on the circular saw?
4. It's HOT here in Texas. So GreycieMae has a few pointers on how to keep your cool during this global warming spell. If ever there's an ice age, we'll post another video on that too. 1. Make sure you have a working ice maker - very important 2. Make sure you have a slave to bring you the ice - very nice 3. Make sure you have an oblong baking dish - fits the fat fatty nice 4. When temps reach 95, combine all ingredients and jump in! P.S. don't share. sharing is NOT for the birds
5. I would say she is eating them. All of our birds leave a fine powder behind when they eat their pellets. I use those 'seed corrals' to put their pellets in and eventually there is nothing but poweder left. I leave that in place and they eventually will eat the powder too. Less waste this way. We feed Harrisons pellets and I've switched to the 'fine' size because when they would crack the bigger ones, the pellet parts would fly all over the place creating waste and a mess.
6. I had to laugh at that. First thing I do every morning when getting the babies up: GreycieMae is first because she's the queen, I rotate her off her perch lay her upside down in my hand and stuff my nose under her wing. Sometimes I give her a good farty noise and we both have a laugh, or I just soak up the warmth I feel from her little body and give her kisses all over her belly. I wouldn't be able to live if I had to keep her out of my face.
7. Keep in mind he's going to give you his best guess. Doctors practice, doesn't mean they know. I have a co-worker that landed in the hospital for a week and then on bed rest for nearly the exact same thing you mentioned. Her doctor's advice was to get rid of her budgies and her cockatiel as they were, in his opinion, the cause of this. She ended up re-homing the budgies as they were super messy and left feathers all over the house. However she couldn't part with the cockatiel. We're about 10 months out and she's doing ok. As you know a cockatiel is a heavyweight in the dust/dander department. Eventually we think with her it's the same as you, previous damage from a bout with bronchitis or pneumonia. I have the same issue to a lesser degree. I got bronchitis really bad from racing in the rain and cold and damaged my lungs. My first bout with it went 6 months of nearly non-stop coughing fits. Now I seem to get a recurrence about once a year. There is a test you can get that will tell you exactly what you are allergic too. I have no idea the accuracy, probably higher than a doctor's opinion.
8. Stories like this is why I hang out here: "Pedro, you better go outside and poop or it's going to be a LONG DAY!!!" BWAAHAAHAAAHAAHAA. I can only imagine. Seeing and hearing about everybody's Greys that talk always makes me jealous. Not sure I want a talker so bad, I think it's just another window into their little soul that I don't have. Some of this is hardly believable except I hang out on two FB Grey groups and I see this type of talking all the time. I was watching one this morning of a Grey explaining to her hooman how a dog barks and what noise a duck or something makes...then it busted out in song and dance and that's when I melted. They are so dang cute.
9. I seriously don't think you'll find anything better than that King's cage. Ive had my eye on that one since late last year but can't plunk down the change for it. That would surely be my choice. It's heavy though! That's the one drawback I've read about it.
10. GreycieMae says Happy 4th to all and don't forget... If it's hot where you live, make sure to eats your watermelons And remember to stop and eats...dang its...smell the roses. Picked fresh from Mommy's rose garden next to GreycieMas's aviary
11. Haahaa...trying to sneak pizza in the house. I gave up long ago trying to sneak food. They have Xray vision and can see through walls, especially if there is cheese involved.
12. There was a time when I could give her a toss and she'd let the pen go and grab her tail...nowadays she doesn't care. She loves to be tossed. Need a new strategery.
13. Somebirdy wouldn't give my pen back this morning that she stole while I was making my list. I make lists and when I can't have my pen, I can't make lists...
14. Never fails...time to get the birds in and this is what I have to put up with. I'll be doing the latches to get in the two gates into the aviary and what do I hear? I hear the sound of toenails quickly scurrying to the top of the aviary where somebirdy gets into position to play keep-the-birdy-away. She loves loves loves to hang just tantalizingly out of reach. She's so rotten.
15. I finished cleaning the coffee grounds bucket and what else did I find in the bucket? Somebirdy thought they could hide but didn't realize she's flying a giant red flag
16. Thinking of you and Timber and hoping for the best.
17. Miss GrecieMae has a Laserbeams and Steak Knives death stare that she will use on Toby Toby, her hated lil brother the Caique. I sometimes wonder if Toby will explode in a cloud of feathers when Greycie is giving him That Look.
18. I checked in the bird room today and could not find my African Grey. However there was a big fat well-fed looking bat that I suspect ate my bird.
19. Haa..LNCAG, that's funny: you despise the TV, I despise the Alexa/Echo. That stupid thing is all my co-workers are yapping about right now. Even though I work in the technology field I am a very late adopter specimen. It will have to be out there for 10 years before I'll even consider one. GreycieMae will watch the TV with us. She sits on my knee and it's funny to see her quietly staring at the idiot box on the wall just like the rest of us. She only pays attention when she's tired and something is of interest to her. Music and singing & dancing are what gets her attention the most. She will sometimes start head bobbing and singing along with whatever is playing. Most of the time though she ignores it. I guess she's not into binge watching Netflix series.
20. We have three guineas. They're kind of..uhmmm...stupid? Joke around here is, the guineas seem to let the chickens do the thinking for them. They sound cute though!
21. We're having a serious rat and mouse problem. I finally decided to take a stand a couple weeks ago when I kicked a box and 10-15 half sized immature rats came pouring out of it like a horror show flick. Now they're in our wood pile near my aviary and I've found evidence of them in the aviary and also on our back porch. So I had to take the nuclear option on them. Now there are a few left running around that I need to eradicate.
22. It's both. My non-talker will dog whistle me from the sink, which means it's time for the 'beverage cart' service. Yes, our home has beverage cart service similar to an in-flight service. She will usually drink the water she has called for but she also has a fake drink maneuver that she does which looks like she's drinking complete with the little head down and tongue lapping only her beak is on the side of the cup or even on my hand. When she does that I usually go through my 'Greycie you're faking it just to get me to serve you...'. They're too smart for our own good.
23. I got my mischief maker and then some. Cannot let GreycieMae out of my sight. She knows this too as she will try and sneak away sometimes when she thinks she's not being watched. Ever see a Grey try and tip-toe into the kitchen? She will also blatantly fly around the corner into the kitchen and wait to see if someone will react. No reaction? oh...boy time to conduct a raid! We have to keep the counters clear or she will toss what ever is up there...down there.... She loves to hear the plastic stuff hit the floor and bounce but that's a distant second to the sound of glass/ceramics shattering on the tile floor. Wife has also told me I'm responsible for getting the cabinets re-painted as Miss GreycieMae has nibbled a few corners before I could get in there and stop her. Her main goal however when she's conducting raids is the pursuit of tasty treasures....
24. love that you mentioned pigeons. My first fliers have been up for about 4 weeks and there is something about flying pigeons that touches your soul. We sit in our swinging chair under the canopy and they fly in formation occasionally passing directly overhead. It's very majestic. Problem is I get really attached to them and there is risk involved. I read an article a while back about the most decorated pigeon. Responsible for saving many many allied lives. What a good pigoey!
25. Sounds like a brat birdy I know too! Somebirdy here loves to go around the counter pushing stuff off then watching and listening to see how big the crash-n-smash will be.
