  1. I agree completely that it is personality and who they are interacting with that determines how verbal they are. I thought Timber only knew a few words until I started running my birdie cam. His vocabulary was shockingly large. He is also very verbal if I am in another room or another part of the house, trying to lure me back I assume. What characters they are! That is part of their charm.
  2. Neat pic! I haven't tried sprouting quinoa. I do sprout the big bird from sprout people for Timber. Do you do the quinoa separately? If so, how long do you let it go?
  3. I really enjoy reading your updates as well. Inara's verbal ability is amazing. Timber says several words and phrases, but he doesn't interact with us verbally like that very much. I think he has the ability to do so because I've seen him manifest his intelligence in many ways, but he chooses not to for the most part. It's a pleasure to read about how others here interact with their fids
  4. LOL to tripping over our perches! Good way to put it
  5. What great news! I'm believing the blood work will all be good too. A positive vet visit is always such a relief (to me at least). Peck sure seemed to take it in stride. I will have had Timber for two years in June, and he goes to the vet for a nail trimming and exam every six months. With him, it never gets easier. He doesn't seem to appreciate his better mobility after the trim, and I swear he spends the next six months devising ways to NOT be trapped in the pack-o-bird for the next visit. He's such a spoiled brat! To top it off, I can always expect a "spite bite" just to express his displeasure after we return. He has the nerve to wait until after cuddle time, when he has his fill of face and beak scratching. On the way back to his cage, he will look straight at me, bend down and take a section of skin from my forearm, then march on to his cage and look very satisfied with himself. The ONLY time he does this is after a vet visit, ha. Greys have so much personality. I can't wait to see how your relationship with Peck grows and evolves, and to hear about his first encounter with Megan
  6. Very interesting! Thanks for posting, more information I have now that I didn't before... Just one of the things I love about this forum!
  7. Very good pic of a handsome grey (and a pretty wife) Good luck and God bless on getting him home!
  8. I feed Timber eggs regularly. His favorite are scrambled (nothing added, just the egg which I do in the microwave).
  9. That was a close call! On the brighter side, happy hatchday to Neyteri We have too many birds of prey to let timber out in the open. Just not worth the risk to me. I am blessed with screened porches on te back and the front.
  10. Yes, they are kindred spirits. Both have came a long way, and I like to sit and remember back to the early days. That's when I can really see how far they have came. So rewarding!
  11. Time just "flies" doesn't it! Beautiful pic
  12. Looks like Peck had a great homecoming! He was wary but not frightened. Thanks for the video and pics, I really enjoyed them.
  13. Honestly, I think your feelings are totally normal! Isaac is looking better all the time.
  14. Happy hatchday Nilah! What a beautiful pic
  15. I have a whole house attic fan. I think a lot of it depends on your layout. Our house is two stories with a basement. The fan is in the attic. There are louvers at the top of the stairs. You definitely feel air movement through every open window, but not enough to disturb Timber. If you had a small area, well sealed, with the fan close, you probably could have a strong enough flow to disturb the flight path of a smaller bird, as Sterling said. FYI, yes, it saves us a lot on A/C. When the weather starts warming up, we turn the fan on at night. Then, we close the windows and turn off the fan when we get up in the morning, or when the temp outside starts climbing. It makes a big difference!
  16. I hadn't seen this so thanks for posting! I'm also relieved neither were hurt.
  17. I have nothing to add. What I've read goes both ways, so I don't know what to think!
  18. LOL Sterling. Just what I was thinking!
  19. That is fantastic news! Timber flew a very short distance the other day, but he did go up rather than gliding down. So exciting
  20. LOL Wonder how many grams she actually ate? That's always my question after Timber demolishes something
  21. Timber loves meat, every kind I have given him. He also likes a chicken bone once in awhile. I wouldn't try to come between Cricket and that bone!
  22. Awwww... what a neat pic! Thanks for sharing
  23. Rikki certainly is enjoying that swing. Timber is glaring at me over his shoulder. I think he thinks I'm being unfaithful when he hears another bird...
