  1. Bet time will crawl by until Sunday! Keep us updated and post some pics. We love those baby pics Good luck and God bless!
  2. Hello and welcome! I'm glad you are doing your research. Many of us work outside our homes which means quite a bit of cage time for our birds. I shoot for at least 4 hours of out-of-cage time a day. More is better, but it doesn't always happen. I'm relatively inexperienced, but I would point out that even getting a grey as a baby doesn't come with any guarantees. It is like having a human baby, you have environmental control, but temperament and a lot of other factors are beyond your control. What I mean is you never know if your bird will be a cuddle muffin or standoffish, vocal or quiet, etc. It sounds like you are somewhat prepared for that. Regardless of temperament and disposition, if you are willing to put the time and effort into it your bird will come to trust and care for you. My relationship with my TAG is more meaningful to me than I thought possible, and I've had a variety of "pets" over my lifetime. Good luck and God bless
  3. Yikes! You are right, it could have been worse. That's also why I don't let Timber anywhere near my face, though I can read his body language and trust him to a point now.
  4. They certainly have their personality quirks. Timber will go for hubby's hand often when he is changing food, adding treats, whatever inside the cage. Outside the cage, no problem. I assume it is a form of cage aggression. I can do anything inside the cage, but I am the chosen one.
  5. Yes, it is unfortunately normal, at least in my experience!
  6. LOL They are definitely holding back. When I first rehomed Timber, he left a hole in my arm that I can still find, and that was two years ago!
  7. Having had the skin broken on a bite many times, I can see that you are blessed indeed if they aren't biting hard! As bratbirds pointed out, they often check for stability and "perchability" with their beaks before stepping on anything.
  8. Wish it went that way at my house. Timber has a concrete perch the he uses a lot and often sleeps on. His nails still need trimming every six months. All I am saying is that what works for some doesn't work for all. It's all good
  9. Loved the pics Ray! I suspect that one day I will have an Amazon. One of the things that holds me back is that Timber is so high maintenance and needy. I don't want to rock his boat!
  10. How exciting for you! I can't wait to see pics. Greys don't always accept change easily, but they do adapt. Since you are moving him to an entirely new home, I think he will get over the cage switching. As to treats, I wouldn't use fruit. Fruit should not be much of a grey's diet. I would use nuts as your initial treats instead. Offering them with your hand is great assuming he will accept them. Can't wait to hear an update when you get home!
  11. My four would love it. We have the windows open whenever possible and they are always sitting in them. They have been inside all of their lives though, so don't attempt to get outside.
  12. LOL From what I've read here, most of us can mist our birds at will, but the "full bath" is something they must decide to do on their own! Timber always enjoys misting, but when it is time to open those feathers and get soaked, he is ready when he is ready and not before
  13. FYI, there are a bunch of them if you hit next...
  14. Wow, these pics were fascinating to me. Not built for birds, but for cats. Some awesome ideas there though! https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=832331176782210&set=pcb.832340033447991&type=1&theater
  15. Kitchen scales are fine. That is what I use.
  16. Yes, you just cook the oatmeal as you would if you were making it for yourself. When you feed something warm, make sure it has cooled enough. Things that are too hot can result in a burn to the crop. When I am feeding Timber something warm, I make sure it is barely above my body temperature. Be sure to look at the sticky's for the list of "do not feeds" for your baby. There are things such as avocado, chocolate, etc. that you cannot feed your bird at all. As Ray said, expected for the prohibited list, most of us give a birds a little of the stuff we are eating at mealtimes. You will have to experiment to see what your bird likes and doesn't like. They are as individual in their tastes as people are. My TAG, for instance, will not eat oatmeal. Some greys love it. He will eat a lot of other things warm, and loves being spoon fed.
  17. Hello and welcome It usually takes time to build relationship with a grey, so don't be discouraged. Post some pics, info and your new baby's name when you can
  18. Same here Dan, fingers and toes crossed!
  19. Hope this posts OK! How I wish all of our birds would just say so. Then I wouldn't have to try to read body language to avoid a bite!
  20. What a good report! Sounds like everything is going great. Beautiful pics, thanks for posting
