  1. Hello and welcome to you and Dooble! My TAG, Timber is 9 and we still don't know if he is a he... You won't be able to tell by looking, the way to find out is bloodtesting if you need to know for sure.
  2. I honestly don't know in answer to your question about "fledgling." Hopefully someone who does will see your question. So glad to hear Poppy has "weathered the storm!"
  3. LOL! I am certainly set in my ways and can totally commiserate. In fact, I would probably have regressed to hair pulling/feather plucking/overpreening and biting by now... Hang in there!
  4. Timber has also eaten one that I accidentally left in his portion when he was sharing dinner with us. Like Sterling, I try to pick the mushrooms out. But Timber is fine and didn't seem to suffer any ill effects. It's important to remember (though I don't know if this is true of mushrooms) that foods that are bad for them can have cumulative effects (salt and sugar come immediately to mind). So, if Timber eats a bit of those types of thing I know it won't kill him, but I also know that his digestive system doesn't work like mine and things can accumulate over time and causes damage.
  5. Hello and welcome to you and Ozzy! What a beautiful baby
  6. Wow sorry to hear about the broken bones! Prayers for a successful surgery and speedy recovery.
  7. Hello and welcome to the forum! I'm so glad to see you are doing your research before getting a grey. The stickies have a lot of information.
  8. I don't cover Timber, but that is mainly because his previous owner didn't cover him. He goes to bed when we do, an like GreycieMae he fights it every step of the way (most nights). I think he sees it a game, but that's our routine. Like you, I've learned to tune out noise over the years and we sleep on the second floor, so no problems here.
  9. I hope you are right about the papers being the draw to the bottom of the cage! That would be a great resolution

Giannine, the vet says Timber is just a small TAG, but healthy. He wasn't on a great diet when I got him, but he hasn't gained a lot on a better diet. He's just... small.
  11. Great news on the bloodwork. Onward and upward

I haven't been able to find anything about the age at which they have attained full physical size, which is surprising. Timber was 5 and grown when I got him so I'm not sure. Anyone else know?
  13. That's fantastic! I needed some good news today, and seeing this was it. Kudos to you for not giving up and making a way!

Timber is 9 and weights a whopping 278 grams, so Poppy is coming right along! I don't remember the top end of the average for TAGs but I remember the bottom was 274. Timber was a bit under that when I got him.
  15. Hello and welcome to you and Dwight It's great that Dwight already knows you. It does take time for them to adjust to new surroundings though. It took about 3 months for Timber (my rehomed TAG) to get comfortable. If you read through the forum, there are some that adjust more quickly but others that take longer. Have patience and it will pay off! I suspect that if Dwight was a big talker at your dad's he will be again when he settles in.
  16. Good to see you Nancy! I was going to send a message the other day to see if you were OK, but forgot.
  17. I've noticed the names birds say aren't necessarily someone they love or hate. It seems more likely it is a name they hear expressed with emotion or they just like the sound of. The mystery of Jim remains!
  18. Loved the video! What a sweetheart. I have no baby experience so will leave the formula question to those who have. As to your question earlier about cooking vegetables, some they like cooked and others they like raw. You'll have to experiment with that. For instance, my bird will eat carrots and broccoli raw, but sweet potatoes only when cooked. Their tastes are as individual a ours that way. '
  19. Love the pic! I don't use a harness so don't have any input on that.
  20. When Timber wants something and does feel I'm getting there fast enough, he "rattles" his cage. Yes it is loud, but as Sterling said they like loud noises!
  21. Actually, most like boiled eggs and they are fine for them. As to the meat, Timber loves it. I do avoid giving him the processed meat like from the deli or packaged. It is heavy on salt and the nitrates aren't good for them. But when I cook a roast or other meat at home I give it to him and it's usually a hit. On that same note, he likes boiled or baked chicken wings. He will strip the marrow out of the bone (little cannibal As to vegetables, just keep experimenting and offering them. You have to be inventive. Timber won't eat raw veggies in a bowl, but he will eat some (particularly green peas) when I hang them on a skewer in his cage. Same with broccoli and carrot. He will at least nibble when it is on the skewer. Cooked sweet potato is often one they will try. Try offering it on a spoon (that's the way Timber likes it). For some reason anything I hand feed him is much more acceptable than anything I put in the bowl. If none of that works, try sneaking veggies in via birdie bread or chop. There are stickies on both those I think. Don't just try one either. Sometimes they will start eating something they initially rejected.
  22. When I was avoiding sunflower seeds, I used this one: Higgins Safflower Gold Natural Food Mix for Parrots. After the vet said he really needed to add a few grams, and I read Dave's post on how he didn't think sunflower seeds were bad for them if not the sum of your diet, I use this one: Higgins Vita Seed Parrot Food, 3 lbs and this one: Higgins Vita Seed California Blend Parrot Food, 5 lbs. I do have to pick the peanuts out of all of these but there aren't that many. I just pick them out when I put the seed inn his bowl. I'm sure there are a lot of other good ones out there. A lot is dependent on what your bird will EAT. I've tried a few he didn't care for (who knows why).
