  1. Fantastic! It took several weeks for Timber to make the transition from old to new cage, so you have a brave one
  2. Happy belated hatchday to Kane! I've been on vacation and am only catching up on the forum.
  3. Happy Hatchday Gracie! What a lucky girl you are.... but then your dad is lucky too!
  4. You are doing great! I'm a rehomer myself (first AG too). The hardest thing for me was to understand how much TIME it often takes for them to adjust and trust. If you go back to the beginning of many of our stories, our "cuddle birds" didn't happen overnight. Or, in a week, a month, sometimes years. It took 3 months for Timber to step up without a blood-letting. And he wasn't happy about it then. I was frustrated, disheartened and sad. This forum was my salvation because I knew I wasn't alone and Timber was "normal" for a grey. Hang in there!
  5. The bulb you buy will usually give a "replacement" time. I replace mine every 4 months.
  6. LOL to the Tourette's comment! What great progress Gil is making.
  7. Nice haul! Timber always has a roll hanging in his cage.
  8. I was curious, so here goes: Size: A smaller Amazon species, White Fronted Amazons typically reach only about 10 inches in length from the beak to the tip of the tailfeathers. Average Lifespan: 50+ years.
  9. I haven't had any "baby experience" either so am not much help. Hopefully more experienced people (like Dave007) will chime in when they see this. I'm commenting to help bring your post back up to the top! Good luck and God bless
  10. Glad you were able to find one close, and hope it is a great one!

So cute, and looking so curious and intelligent already!
  12. I actually thought that very thing, Greywings.
  13. LOL That was great! Timber does several distinctive meows, including one where the cat sounds tortured. He saves that one for desperate times when he wants attention. Good job on The Andy Griffith theme! What a cutie...
  14. I believe that after you have had time to grieve for Spy you will want to open your heart to another grey. After you've experienced that close bond (unlike any other in my experience) it leaves a hole that needs to be filled. That's just my opinion and the way I feel. I'm not talking replacement here. You will always carry Spy in your heart. The why and what questions you are asking are part of the grieving process. Remember that birds, like people and all species, are sometimes born with congenital heart or other defects that are undetectable or missed. No comfort I know, but sometimes things are just beyond our control. God bless.
  15. I think the red palm oil I've been putting in Timber's food helps. He is shinier and fuller since I added it.

    What a beautiful baby!
  17. Mine has the stainless mesh as well. Timber is not a chewer so that hasn't been a problem. He is a small TAG at about 290 grams, so Gracie would make mincemeat of him!
  18. I have the pack-o-bird. I got the one made for African greys. Unfortunately, Timber hates it (or any other carrier) but it is well made and big enough for him. It comes with two small bowls and shade type covers on the three open sides.
  19. I also make soap. I have a back, screened in porch. I measure my FO or EO out on the porch and leave it there while I make the soap. When it's time to add it, I take the pot to the porch and stir it in. Then I take it back in the house and mold it. We haven't had any problems. I have a large, old, and well-ventilated house though. If I was in a small area (like an apartment) it might be different. I also mix my lye and liquid on the porch and don't bring it in until the fumes are gone. As to candles, I gave them up when I got Timber. Since I'd read I couldn't burn them (or use on a warmer like I did) I just quit making them. I'm no expert, but that is what works for us!
