  1. My husband and I were thinking of getting a bird after our last son moved out. A bird for our "empty nest" we thought. To my embarrassment now, I knew nothing about greys (or any bird) and thought it would be like getting a cat or dog. We wanted one that would talk, and a friend said they had read AG's were good talkers. My son and daughter-in-law (newlyweds), had Timber. We had some limited interaction with him at that point. When Jamie got him, she was told she was his (even gender is debatable) was his second owner. Who knows. At any rate, Timber and Jamie's 6 year old daughter did not get along well. Jamie hadn't had much luck interacting with Timber, though she had previous parrot experience. Since we were looking and Jamie thought Timber would be better away from her daughter we brought him home. Best move I've ever made, but I sure wish I'd done some research before I got him! For non-bird owners, let me tell you it is nothing like getting a dog or cat. This forum probably saved his life (and mine ha). I've learned so much here! And, that's also why Timber calls me Jamie!
  2. Timber has a red feather on the side of his neck. It is always there (I've had him 5 years). Other than that, no distinguishing features. Interesting question.
  3. What a nasty experience at the bird fair. There is a nice one about 1.5 hours from us that happens twice a year and it is fun to be able to "see" toys and items I hadn't even thought of instead of looking at them online and trying to visualize how they might be. There are some birds for sale, but they are sitting out on perches and don't seem agitated. They do have babies for sale, but I haven't seen any for sale until they are ready. You put down a deposit and wait. The one in Nashville does sound like a recipe for disaster. Sure glad Kya didn't decide to bear down and give you a worse bite!
  4. Hope this posts, I've tried a couple of times!
  5. Snakes don't bother me either, which is easy to say since there aren't many poisonous ones in my area. My oldest son, on the other hand, will scream "like a girl" if he sees one
  6. I feel for you but Birdhouse is right. Not your fault. It's so traumatic when anything happens to them though. I can commiserate! The important thing is that he is fine and all will be well.
  7. So glad it is working out so well for all of you! My husband talks about getting another bird that would he "his" bird, but there is just no guarantee. He wants an Amazon. We'll see! Timber can't really fly either. He hasn't been clipped since I got him (almost 5 years ago) and he is fully feathered. I assume he was clipped when young and never fledged. Sad! We've tried to get him to fly, but he doesn't seem interested. When he is startled into "flight" he definitely gets more height than he did when we brought him home clipped, but doesn't seem interested in flight.
  8. hmm.. I typed it but maybe it didn't post? You were right! I haven't been married 3 times...
  9. Looking good! I can't believe the tray is only removable from the back. Fatal flaw indeed!
  10. Nailed it! I'll give someone else a turn
  11. I play Xbox games daily. I've been married 3 times. I listen to rap music.
  12. Brat Birds - Your lie is you've never been married.
  13. What a great report on Olive! So happy to hear she is so much better. Cardiac arrest at 42 is shocking. I hope he makes a full recovery.
  14. Welcome back! So sorry for you loss though. It's traumatic.
  15. Have you tried putting a bell on a collar around her neck? That's the universal solution for cats who are hunters. It gives the prey a bit of warning, so if they are healthy they have a chance of escape.
  16. You are making great progress with Gracie! From what I've seen, jealousy is a great motivater for greys. That could account for Kya's recent treatment of you. If there is one thing Timber has taught me, it's all about him all the time. He will speak when people in the room if he is being ignored (never otherwise), say "OK, Bye" when I'm on the phone and not talking to him, etc. etc. You probably seem much more interesting to Kya now that he has competition. I hope getting out and about works for you. I've tried with Timber several times, and he remains terrified of the outdoors.
  17. Knowing what you are dealing with is often the major part of the battle. Prayers for you and Olive.
  18. What a great update! I'm familiar with the "beak of displeasure" and the cardboard fetish too. So glad you are here with us!
  19. Loved the pics! It looks like you are settling in well there.
  20. Great video! I always enjoy watching the videos here. Thanks for posting
