  1. That looks very interesting. The King's cage was just delivered to the back door. We shall see!
  2. Fortunately for Timber, I'm as OCD as he is so I have no problem with the rituals, ha. Kya I wouldn't worry too much. Timber, at least, doesn't have the same expectations with others as he does with me. I've been gone before and Timber has been left in hubby's care. He doesn't do anything "right" and said Timber had no problem with it. It seems to me they attach the rituals to people as well as events.
  3. No, he didn't but I try to keep him as active as possible. I open the door of his little cage and he loves to get on top. It isn't easy for him and looks like a mini-workout but he makes it!
  4. I will thanks! I see small signs of improvement. My husband had a stroke last fall so I know it isn't instantaneous recovery but it can come. I'm hopeful that the improvement will continue, maybe over months or years, but I've got time
  5. I've actually worked customer service too. I'm always courteous and polite, but I am persistent! Fingers crossed that the cage meets our needs without problems. Thanks
  6. Ugh. I hope they have improved the design! I have to say you sound just like me! My husband says I'm a customer service reps nightmare. I don't give up either if I know I'm in the right. I had a car dealer tell me one time they'd fix the car (finally) but they'd never sell me another one. You can't take poor quality and service lying down or they will walk all over you.
  7. Thanks for the info birdhouse and neoow! I think they've upgraded the cage a bit, it now comes with stainless bowls and perhaps a different kind of latch? The corner cage in the link is too tall, since my biggest concern is falls. The close grate shouldn't be a problem because I have to put towels in the bottom of the cage. That might be a concern later if his coordination improves substantially, but if that happens I'll probably be moving him back to the old cage. I went ahead and ordered it from King's. It was $10 more than the ebay link ($339) but I might get more cooperation if there are any issues so it was worth the $10 to buy from the manufacturer. I didn't get the gold one in my link, it was 329 but had plastic bowls and latches. I got red in the newer model. Here's hoping it works! Thanks again for your input.
  8. Thanks! Heavy is fine with me since he will be living in it.
  9. OK friends, I need some advice. I need to get a cage for Timber to accommodate his current handicapped status. He is currently in a small prevue travel cage, which isn't made for long term use. I'm looking for a small, low cage with the right bar spacing for a grey. Short is important, because though I put towels on the bottom, I still don't want him to fall from very high. The only one I've found is this one http://www.kingscages.com/ProductDetails.aspx?ProductID=ATM2029%20Gold which is also a travel cage but is the right size and is aluminum. I've never used or read anything about aluminum. Thoughts or suggestions please?
  10. I've never done that. I had generous sick leave, but only called in sick if I WAS sick. I just couldn't abuse the system that way!
  11. I've been adding red palm oil to his food since I read it here, which is practically the whole time I've had him. All suggestions are appreciated though! The vet visit went fine yesterday. Timber has regained the weight he lost with the supplemental formula feedings. He hasn't had any more seizures (that we have seen) on the new meds. The worst news was that the vet said he didn't really expect his functionality to improve much more. I've seen some improvement in the last two weeks and am still praying for a full recovery. However, if he stays handicapped we'll deal with it. I'm shopping for a small cage since this travel cage isn't made to be a permanent home.
  12. Thank you! He is much the same. We hoped changing his seizure meds would cause a return of his coordination but that isn't the case so far. He still has difficulty perching and navigating. He is still in the "hospital" cage. He seems slightly better on the new meds, but not as improved as I hoped. We see the vet again Monday afternoon. Still hanging in there!
  13. Happy 4th of July to my grey family! Hope everyone has a great day. Be safe
  14. LOL Yes Gracie wins that one, on every level. She has you well trained!
  15. He said to keep temp between 75 and 85.
  16. I have Timber's in a baggie. I always thought if someone here needed them for imping I'd be ready!
  17. Thank you all for the support, prayers and good wishes. We are in a holding pattern. Since every test and image shows normal, the vet is changing his seizure meds. We hope to find that perfect balance of minimizing seizure occurrence and duration while keeping the effect on his balance and appetite minimal. He has lost a lot of weight and perches low because he is off balance (like a person with vertigo I suppose). He is still in the "invalid" cage and that's working for now. I pray that the new meds will get him back to a more "normal" life and that there isn't some underlying condition we just aren't finding. I'm pushing food all the time and supplementing with formula. He still whistles and talks. If I wasn't looking at his abnormal behavior and just heard audio, I wouldn't know there was a problem. I worry about his quality of life and wish I could read that little birdie mind!
  18. Naughty is what they do best! Great pics
  19. All I have heard today is that his second test for ABV came back negative. He has all the symptoms, but not the virus. The vet is supposed to call himself later to tell me what he wants to do next. You're right Murfchck, the waiting and not knowing is the worst. He is still hanging in there. He is in a small cage since we have to towel him for meds and supplemental feeding so often, and because he can't motivate well. He whistles, talks, and clicks, but he has difficulty getting around (the vet says neurological) and isn't eating well. It's so sad to see him this way, but I'm so thankful when I get up in the morning and he is still hanging in there!
  20. Thanks for the recipe birdhouse, I may give it a try! The supplement is to get his meds down him and give him a nutritional boost. No news yesterday and more tests. Thanks all for the prayers, it helps!
  21. Timber's most common expression (not sure what this is about me) is like "are you serious?" It's like he's rolling his eyes in human equivalence...
  22. Wow, I'll bet that traumatized her! They are resilient in there own way, and you know she will come around. Slowly, in grey time, but she'll get there.
  23. When I was in the vet's office yesterday one of the techs was saying her aunt has a grey. The vet had put him on atavan. She said when it is near time for his medication, he will start shouting "give me my nerve meds!" She thought that was amazing because while they talked about the birds meds, they didn't use that phrase, he had figured it out for himself.
  24. We go back this afternoon. No news at this point. I have him on a nutritional supplement similar to formula and he's not liking it at all. Thanks for the prayers and support!
  25. Well after a long two months we see the vet again this afternoon. I haven't said anything because I tend to curl up in a ball and hide in situations like this. Timber developed some sort of seizure disorder. The cause hasn't been determined. Not calcium deficiency, not heavy metal poisoning, bloodwork, is fine, stood specimen fine, etc. etc. The medication has halted the seizures, but he has continued to decline over time. I'm scared to death, but have to terms with the fact that I may lose him. Pray for us please!
