I've been adding red palm oil to his food since I read it here, which is practically the whole time I've had him. All suggestions are appreciated though! The vet visit went fine yesterday. Timber has regained the weight he lost with the supplemental formula feedings. He hasn't had any more seizures (that we have seen) on the new meds. The worst news was that the vet said he didn't really expect his functionality to improve much more. I've seen some improvement in the last two weeks and am still praying for a full recovery. However, if he stays handicapped we'll deal with it. I'm shopping for a small cage since this travel cage isn't made to be a permanent home.

Thank you! He is much the same. We hoped changing his seizure meds would cause a return of his coordination but that isn't the case so far. He still has difficulty perching and navigating. He is still in the "hospital" cage. He seems slightly better on the new meds, but not as improved as I hoped. We see the vet again Monday afternoon. Still hanging in there!

LOL Yes Gracie wins that one, on every level. She has you well trained!

I have Timber's in a baggie. I always thought if someone here needed them for imping I'd be ready!

Thank you all for the support, prayers and good wishes. We are in a holding pattern. Since every test and image shows normal, the vet is changing his seizure meds. We hope to find that perfect balance of minimizing seizure occurrence and duration while keeping the effect on his balance and appetite minimal. He has lost a lot of weight and perches low because he is off balance (like a person with vertigo I suppose). He is still in the "invalid" cage and that's working for now. I pray that the new meds will get him back to a more "normal" life and that there isn't some underlying condition we just aren't finding. I'm pushing food all the time and supplementing with formula. He still whistles and talks. If I wasn't looking at his abnormal behavior and just heard audio, I wouldn't know there was a problem. I worry about his quality of life and wish I could read that little birdie mind!

Naughty is what they do best! Great pics

All I have heard today is that his second test for ABV came back negative. He has all the symptoms, but not the virus. The vet is supposed to call himself later to tell me what he wants to do next. You're right Murfchck, the waiting and not knowing is the worst. He is still hanging in there. He is in a small cage since we have to towel him for meds and supplemental feeding so often, and because he can't motivate well. He whistles, talks, and clicks, but he has difficulty getting around (the vet says neurological) and isn't eating well. It's so sad to see him this way, but I'm so thankful when I get up in the morning and he is still hanging in there!

Thanks for the recipe birdhouse, I may give it a try! The supplement is to get his meds down him and give him a nutritional boost. No news yesterday and more tests. Thanks all for the prayers, it helps!

Timber's most common expression (not sure what this is about me) is like "are you serious?" It's like he's rolling his eyes in human equivalence...

Wow, I'll bet that traumatized her! They are resilient in there own way, and you know she will come around. Slowly, in grey time, but she'll get there.

When I was in the vet's office yesterday one of the techs was saying her aunt has a grey. The vet had put him on atavan. She said when it is near time for his medication, he will start shouting "give me my nerve meds!" She thought that was amazing because while they talked about the birds meds, they didn't use that phrase, he had figured it out for himself.

We go back this afternoon. No news at this point. I have him on a nutritional supplement similar to formula and he's not liking it at all. Thanks for the prayers and support!

Well after a long two months we see the vet again this afternoon. I haven't said anything because I tend to curl up in a ball and hide in situations like this. Timber developed some sort of seizure disorder. The cause hasn't been determined. Not calcium deficiency, not heavy metal poisoning, bloodwork, is fine, stood specimen fine, etc. etc. The medication has halted the seizures, but he has continued to decline over time. I'm scared to death, but have to terms with the fact that I may lose him. Pray for us please!

Awesome picture. I have to wonder how many mosquitoes that bat ate to gain that size...

We have the same situation. I can do things in Timber's cage and he leaves me alone. If hubby sticks his hand in there for any reason, all bets are off. It's strange because Timber is fond of the hubby. When he's out of the cage, he'll eat out of his palm, rub his beak on his stomach etc. The cage is off limits to him though! On the other hand, Timber will bite if I try to get a step up inside the cage. That's a little worrisome if there is every an emergency. I keep a towel within reach if it comes to that.

Sadly, the only thing I use Alexa for (received for Christmas) is making my shopping list. Someone here, can't remember who, has a bird that uses Alexa turn to on music etc.

Maybe Kya has called DPFS (Department of Parrots and Family Services) now that he has to share the limelight with Gracie...

Haaaaa That's funny! You tell her Sully...

Haaaaaa! Love it! Going to the court house indeed...

Timber sits and rides on my forearm. Accidents happen to easily and I'm not willing to take the chance. However, if he's sitting on my forearm and gets spooked, he heads up to my shoulder. He's going for the highest point I assume. I remove him as soon as the "danger" has passed.

Timber came to us clipped. I've had him 5 years and haven't clipped him, but he does not fly much. Like Acappella, I don't think he ever fledged. He will flap and glide to the ground if startled. In the last few months, I've seen him get lift on two occasions for a brief distance. Time will tell!

Just saw this, but Happy Birthday Penny! God bless

My husband and I were thinking of getting a bird after our last son moved out. A bird for our "empty nest" we thought. To my embarrassment now, I knew nothing about greys (or any bird) and thought it would be like getting a cat or dog. We wanted one that would talk, and a friend said they had read AG's were good talkers. My son and daughter-in-law (newlyweds), had Timber. We had some limited interaction with him at that point. When Jamie got him, she was told she was his (even gender is debatable) was his second owner. Who knows. At any rate, Timber and Jamie's 6 year old daughter did not get along well. Jamie hadn't had much luck interacting with Timber, though she had previous parrot experience. Since we were looking and Jamie thought Timber would be better away from her daughter we brought him home. Best move I've ever made, but I sure wish I'd done some research before I got him! For non-bird owners, let me tell you it is nothing like getting a dog or cat. This forum probably saved his life (and mine ha). I've learned so much here! And, that's also why Timber calls me Jamie!
