  1. Mine is on for six hours a day, so I need to be sure and do that. Thanks
  2. LOL! Sorry to hear about the black eye though.
  3. Yes, sounds like things are going great and what a neat pic!
  4. Just made me think of something Jeff, when I got my light the instructions that the bulb needed to be replaced annually because it loses its effectiveness was repeated several times. Is this true? I marked it on my calendar and was wondering about that.
  5. Pretty, pretty, pretty! Thanks for sharing the pics. What beautiful birds.
  6. Hello and welcome! So interesting to see pics of them at that young age.
  7. Here's Timber getting ready to nap under his light. Like I said, he seems to like it!
  8. Good look with the video of talking! Timber won't do anything when I try to tape. Members here have suggested setting a camera up so he gets used to it which would be the way to go if I had one. So seriously, I hope you are able to get that video. I know many here are able to. Timber also does most of his talking when he is alone. They also practice new words and phrases when alone, which may be the mumbling you hear. They work at it until they get it right.
  9. ^^Good post, and important. When I brought Timber home, I didn't prepare and didn't know anything. I didn't realize I needed to and how wrong I was! I don't regret it for a minute, but I had no idea how much time, attention and cost was involved. Most of my free time focuses on Timber. I'm not sure I would have been able to give him the time he needs when my kids were young and my life was "busier." A lot of people make it work and I'm not trying to be discouraging. As murfchck pointed out, just make sure you are ready for it.
  10. Yeah! New words are always exciting
  11. Happy New Year to you Dave and all my friends on the forum. Wishing everyone a safe evening and a blessed New Year
  12. Yes, they learn quickly. When I say "gotta go to work" Timber makes for his door. He doesn't like it necessarily, but knows it must be done.
  13. That thread Jay posted is the reason I got my light. It doesn't put out heat (not like a heat lamp) and I feel that it is safe to leave on when I'm not here. It really resembles a fluorescent bulb. Like any bulb, you don't want it touching anything for safety's sake and be sure to read the instructions. There is a "burn in" period and the appropriate distances listed from the bird.
  14. Miracle, there is no way Timber could get enough natural light "naturally" considering our home's location, the weather, and the window set up. I ordered an avian light and put it on a timer for him. He really seems to like it. When he is out, he will get on the perch atop the cage and sit right under it and preen. When he is in the cage (which he usually isn't if I am home but I watch him on a cam) after he has eaten, foraged, played or whatever he positions himself right under the light to nap or preen. The point I'm trying to make is that an avian light is a good choice if you can't get their 15 minutes of sunshine a day in!
  15. LOL! Nice to be the trickster rather than the trickee for a change isn't it?
  16. My interpretation (if it was Timber) would be: Yo slave! I'm ready for breakfast, what's the holdup? You think you can lay there all day? You aren't the only one in this household you know. When I feast on your flesh later you will regret your insubordination...
  17. LOL Jeff! Question though, have you ever listened to your voice on tape? I mean... never mind
  18. Reminds me of the first time Timber saw me wearing a headband (for aerobics). He acted like I was a total stranger, feathers slicked back, ready to lunge. They don't miss a trick!
  19. LOL That's what I keep telling myself! I pray that is true.
  20. What a beautiful baby! Thanks for sharing
