  1. Welcome neighbor! Your baby is beautiful!
  2. Been a while since i have updated. Things have been going about the same for Oliver. Its been two weeks since i went back to work and i have not been able to figure out a good routine for Olivers steam baths. Now that he isn't getting one every day i can really tell how they were helping him. Gotta figure this out. He is really bonding with me now. Instead of the screaming when he wants picked up he says hello over and over and over until i do. Sure beats the screams and i can't complain since i am the one who taught him that! ( he still screams for my husband, but he runs to him when he screams so there ya go, lol.)
  3. Thanks! The boys love it. Even Stewart who is getting his flight feathers back. We have to put him in his travel cage to get him into it and i thought there would be a fit thrown, but he is just fine with it. He knows if the carrier comes out, he gets to go out! I really like yours, and i bet Babalu loves it!
  4. I got him a babble ball today and a rubber ball with a bell inside. I figured he likes balls so.... I gotta say, he didn't freak out like he has other times i have given him a new toy.
  5. Congrats! There is no love like a grey love! Sounds like you all are doing good! You have been given such good advice that all i can add is to have fun with this wonderful guy and watch him blossom!
  6. Wow, yesterday i put shredder boxes in his cage along with everything else he has and by the time i got home the box was in tiny pieces. He has had that box for over a month. Seems he has decided its time to play! I feel so much better now while i am out during the day that he isn't bored.
  7. What a great feeling! Yeah for the two of you!
  8. This going back to work thing is breaking my heart! The positive is they really seem to have missed me during the day. Oliver gets soooo excited when i get home now, his eyes pin and he makes a really low click sound each time i say hello. It is so cute! Stewart fluffs up and is mad at me until i get my kiss from him then he is okay. Hubby goes in at 6 am, i go in mostly at 9am and he is home by 3 so it isn't to bad for them... Stinkers is an understatement! Haha They are making me a nervous wreck! The braver they get the worse i am!
  9. I am also not a fan of groves, it is scary to them to see that coming at them. I know he doesn't want to get bitten but it is going to happen sooner or later and sometimes often. The trick is for us, when it happens, not to react to it in front of them. That way they learn that the biteing is not effective and they will stop trying that. Right now he is training you that he is going to bite and you are showing him that you have learned his lesson by putting on the gloves. Try using a perch or dowl instead at first, he is scared and rightfully so. I agree to leave him in the new cage, door open though when you have the time to encourage him back in. I have a macaw who won't go back in his cage when i need him to but a nut in his food bowl works every time! The first bite is the scariest, the second, you know what to expect so the pain is less, the third even less, the fourth, even less. By the fifth bite, you giggle to yourself asking why was i so afraid of this!
  10. Even pluckers are beautiful! Meet the nudist, naked and darn proud! If your bird is medically healthy, why torture yourselves and your bird medicating him for nothing?
  11. Congrats! I am sure all of this sounds backwards and i am guessing you want nothing more than to hold and kiss and love your new fid and assure him everything will be alright, right? Lol, i know that feeling! The best thing you can do for him is be patient! He needs to adjust and feel safe. You need to take it slow with him and let him lead the way. Please know for your own peace, this could take months, and as some here have experienced, years. Expose him to the good things, toys, veggies, fruits and your new best friend almonds! ( but keeps these to a few a day, all about that can be found in the health room) Please do post in the rescue thread and you will learn alot from those who have been and who are in your shoes! You and your husband have done a wonderful thing, thank you!
  12. If Stewart ever talks again, his first words may just be, " Oh you poo poo head" followed by a giggle. He has the giggle down so when he hears that he giggles right along! My husband has started making up words to use instead of swearing... Heaven forbid anything ever happen to us and he moves to a new home, they would think he was a weirdo! Lol But i agree with all my heart, there are no bad words used in my home any more! We have been married going on 25 years with no children so cussing free flowed, it was a challange to stop it cold turkey but it is not impossible!
  13. I am such a proud mama! They boys did do great this week! Stewarts whiffle balls are all chewed up! Who woulda thought i would be excited to see destruction! Lol Got my first paycheck in 9 months... Guess where i am going today? Yup, to my bird store! Time to do some shopping! Lol
  14. Too close of a call tonight. We had put the boys up to relax before bedtime and then went out back. Heard a squeal looked in to see Stewart surounded by all the dogs. They were more curious than anything but he flew from his cage to the door down the hall to the kitchen to the back door! We would have made a bet but it was mute, we knew we would find Oliver on his cage. Sure enough, there he was on top of his cage. Arrggg!
  15. If i move Stewart they couldn't see each other anymore. Olivers cage is so large, it was assembled in the room, moving him isn't an option. Their room also has a tv for them during the day, if i move him, he won't have that. Last night we heard a commotion, went in and Oliver had climbed up on Stewarts cage and Stewart flew to Olivers. It isn't that Oliver is attacking him or anything but it scares Stewart i think. We decided to move them today after work and do a trial run this weekend, see how they act. But the air cleaner is a good option if it doesn't work. Man, why is this such a hard choice?
  16. That is great! Nice seeing who has what at a glance! Yeah!!!!!!!!! wonderful job!
  17. I filled his make shift bath tub with toys for him during the day( rabbit litter box )... His half chewed cup, 2 whiffle balls, his bell, his tennis shoe foot toy, his crock shoe foot toy, some wooden blocks, some acrylic block toys, raw hide bone and his oj lid. Today was their first "full" day in the cages while i went to work. When i got home, the toy box was empty except for the bell, everything else was on the bottem of the cage. I just hope he played with them before they hit bottom! He was no worse for wear today, actually more loving, for the first 5 minutes anyway! Lol
  18. I have been going back and forth with them in seperate rooms. We want to but now with me back at work i am worried about one or the other getting lonely during the day... A perfect world would pay me to stay at home with my babies!!lol Maybe Friday we will bring Stewart to the living room and see how they act over the weekend. We have covered them since they have been here. The last two nights we have not and it hasn't bothered them. I doubt, where they came from, they were ever covered. I just feel they need the air. Going to see how it goes.
  19. Started back to work, jumped in full time. Lol the boys don't like it. Oliver was a stinker and Stewart was mad when i got home. Sad part daddy was home with them so they didn't freak out with me being gone, but they did anyway. Pat said Oliver said "hello mama" yesterday. That cut through my heart, like missing your childs first step! They both changed their tune toward me after dinner and got all loving again! I read somewhere in the forum about covering the cage, that we shouldn't. I was always told to cover birds at night, what do ya'll do?

    Coming soon

    Pm sent! Can't wait!
  21. I have tried the wrapping nut thing. It sat there for a while, then Oliver spotted it and took it. Lol I weaved his paper thru the holes, he ignores it. He did reach for his wooden toy yesterday, smacked it with his beak so we will see where that leads. So far, he isn't a fan of bells either. He will bounce up and down if i ring it but as far as him playing with it, nope, it scares him. I am going slow and easy, it only took 4 months to find something he really likes and is willing to fly down to get if he drops it. That whiffle ball came from a post on here so please keep the ideas coming! We are making progress! Thank you all!
