Bongo (aka Stewart ) has been climbing to the top of his cage at night and hanging upside down. I started putting my hand on his back and he will lay into my hand now a little. He doesn't let go yet but we will go at his pace and i know one day he will! It took 6 months before i could touch him so him just letting my hand be fully on his back is a good sign!

I would be thrilled if my guy would say anything! Oliver on the otherhand mumbles up a storm and says hello atleast 50 times a day and really gets tossed in too. Yesterday he even said Abby ( my barking chihuahua ) ok, he more yelled it but he said it!
-
Darn the luck. After some idiot whacked my wings, they started coming back in. I had 3 long ones on one side and 2 on the other, i could somewhat fly and we practice every night. Well 2 days ago, i tried on my own to fly to mom when she wasnt looooking. I missed her and hit the wall. Broke one of my 2 long ones. I guess if all i wanted to do was fly in a circle, it would be ok but darn it, i wanna fly forward! This blows! I was just starting to grasp moms meaning of "Bongo, come" ( oh yeah, they are calling me Bongo again bc i listen more when they do that, otherwise i just look around now trying to figure out why they call everything behind me Stewart. They are so gullable )

Oliver, blue and gold macaw Stewarts new brother
murfchck replied to murfchck's topic in Other Birds
Oh, he loves me, he really really loves me! A while ago i spoke about his throwing up, well i was corrected and he is regurgitating. He usually just does it when i am around but it has progressed to when i am holding or playing with him. He will hold his foot and pump his head till it comes up! A few days ago, he was on my chair and was trying hard to get in my mouth, i wouldn't play that game so i cupped my hand, he still wanted my mouth so i put him on his stand to forget. Lol Yesterday he accepted my hand, grossed my hubby out but oh well, he is just jealous, haha! I agree with Nancy that this is a natural act for them so i will not discourage it. It is how he is showing me love and i wouldn't hurt his feeling for anything! Pat is very worried about the new guy coming and how his affection with me could lead to agression with bubba, i guess we will have to just see and deal with it if and when i happens! -
3 according to the honored fid list!

My African Grey won't go on Playstand
murfchck replied to CharlieLaw's topic in Homemade Toys & Playstands
Very nice stand! My guy HATES anything new. Took him almost 5 months to play with anything i got him, he is still cautious about them but i have seen him kissing his bell lately! (took right to a whiffle ball, go figure! Lol) Give him time to get use to it and do the bowl with treats for him on it! -
Lol, what a cutie she is! Has that same mischievious side i see in my guys eyes. Welcome!
-
For us it will be hard, but knowing that he is living out his life to the fullest makes it worth it! I enlarged the photo of Bubba and am 99% sure his tail is there, just under the water! He does have some missing on the top of his wing though.
-
That is what i thought too! I am hoping his tail is just under the water, hidden by the bubbles.
-
I just got a picture sent to me of Bubba. Not the best picture, it is hard to see what he looks like ( plucking ), i see a little on his wings where he has pulled and it kinda looks like no feathers around his crop area BUT, he is taking a bubble bath so it could be bubbles, she said he likes to play with them. I am shaking my head at that, i didn't think that was safe ( Dawn) Sunday at 1 can not come soon enough!
-
Utt-oooh, the cage is for a new brother. I have heard mom and dad talking, they call him Bubba. Said he looks like Oliver but with more feathers, but they say he is starting to pluck with the stress from his home now. Great, i am going to be living with a bunch of nudist!
-
I am going to keep an eye on him. He only does it when he is trying to nap during the day when he is on his stand so i don't think he is sick, i think he is forming a habit. Lol. Heard from Bubba's owners tonight, just touching base with us. She said that they had Oliver before (which we knew already) and he talked alot, full sentences. I hope that if he did, Bubba will bring it back out! Also found out that Bubba is three years old!
-
Thats funny! I use to feel so sorry for naked birds but they don't care, most are not sick as i always just assumed, they just feel comfortable in their own skin ( so to speak ) I would like to ask something about what Oliver is doing. Moaning, i mean really moaning, like the noise we make when we are relaxing. Is this normal? He sounds pathetic! Only does it when he is dozing off. He just started this noise about a week ago. He also makes a kiss sound now which i understand macaws don't mimic, but it is a kiss sound when i ask for a kiss.
-
I hope you had a big party Sunday! You hit the jackpot Rikki! Forever homes are worth a celebration!
-
Yep, i now have two cages in one room and a two drawer file cabinet to hold a lamp and their supplies and thats all that fits! We had to remove the door frame to get the cage into the room and neither fit back through after assembled. This makes cleaning a huge burden!! Lol
-
Oh i fully understand how he must be feeling. He loves this guy alot and he is putting bubbas needs before his own and i commend him for that. I have assured him he can come by whenever he feels up for it. We set up Bubbas cage in with Olivers and let Oliver choose which one he wanted. He went to the new one walked all around it, then in it, then on it, then right back to his cage! Guess he made up his mind! Now my mission is a stand. I think i need a bigger house!
-
Hiya guys! Good to hear things are getting better Buddy! I am sorry to hear what you went thru, but just know you are in good hands now and nuthin bad will happen again! It is tuff to get past bad times but you have your flock at home and all of your extended flock friends here and we will all keep you safe!
-
Hi Joe! I know what you mean, i have these two here wrapped around my talon! It is funny to watch them run for my smallest bidding. Since they are letting my fly now, all i gotta do is lift my wings and squat and here they come! Once they are close, i will lower my head like i want a scritch and when they obey my command, i will act like i am gunna bite em! Mom says something about crying wolf when i do that! My pet peeve is.... Hmmmmm, i don't know. I am really easy going and mom calls it going with the flow. I guess it would be those four legged things they call dogs. They don't bother me but i don't get to free fly if they are inside so they cramp my style.

I can't believe i didn't mention he is a blue and gold macaw. Heard from them tonight. Her husband asked if we could wait till next Sunday, she said he got really depressed last night after we had talked and asked for one more week with him. Well of course he can, i can wait to open my nudist camp! Lol She assured me that it will happen next Sunday. She wants to make a list for us of his "habits", for example when he wants attention he hollars "ouch" , when he wants a bath he says "Bubba want tub". She is also making a food list for us of his likes and dislikes. I am okay with waiting though really, it gives me more time to set up the cage and the room! I forgot to mention, the couple i bought his cage from delivered it for and we got to talking about how we got started with birds. I mention that we always loved birds and had them before. It was a few years ago when a little black mask lovebird flew into our home that we realized how much we missed having a bird. (i had the actual date on a picture we took of him) turns out, this couple lost the same type of bird a few weeks before that picture was taken. He really thinks it is their bird! He doesn't want him back, just happy that he is safe and happy. Small world huh?

For those just starting to read about this clan of fids, let me try and catch you up. In Jan of this year i rescued an afican grey, Bongo aka Stewart and a very sick b&g macaw, Oliver. Jake was his original name but when he came here all he had was his tail feathers and one row of feathers on his wings and one small row of green feathers over his eyes, like a uni brow. He looked like a stuffed olive, hence his new name. Oliver's bloodwork came back positive for pdd, macaw wasting disease. Still a concern for us but things are looking up. Both came from the same place so Stewart was already exposed. I can not rescue anymore birds unless they are from this same home, which is what is happening now. Sunday, if all goes well, we will be bringing Bubba into our flock. He and Oliver and Stewart lived together for a while until the owner started getting sick more and more and couldn't handle all these guys. He has since been told he has cancer which has progressed rapidly. Chemo is making him to sick to care for these guys and his wife is having a hard time keeping up with it and him to. They asked us to care for Bubba because he is taking this very hard and has started plucking. Bubba was a show bird who has a large vocabulary, is flash card trained and speaks sentences not just words. He loves the bathtub and being on his back getting belly rubs. I was told that when you try to correct him when he is doing something wrong he will look at you and say, "Blah, blah, blah!" This should be interesting. They are bringing him over on Sunday to "check us out". We purchased a cage yesterday for him and already have toys in it, yes, we are saps. Fingers crossed the owner is feeling good tomorrow and this will go smoothly, otherwise it could be another week of plucking. That being the case, i will be running a nudist camp and not just have one nudist rebel! I will let you know tomorrow what happens!

Wonderful time at the breeders yesterday. Stewart ( Bongo ) got to go. Her vet was in to check out all her birds and he did a nail trim for me and gave my guy the once over. Yeah! Good news too, he said he was a perfect weight and he fixed his beak! He looks and acts like he feels so much better. I gave him a peanut last night and he opened it so much better! Not only did he have a beak trim go wrong before we got him but he has a thick beak due to a liver issue when he was a baby. He fine now and nothing for me to worry about. He questioned me in depth about Oliver, i didn't bring him bc i didn't want him stressed out, he always seems to backslide when he stresses. ( plus with the pdd, i wasn't about to subject all her birds to it. ) Found out this vet used to teach at Texas A&M but took a job with the state of OK and their wildlife. My vets office faxed his bloodwork to him, of course not the detailed report i asked for but from what they sent, this guy knew exactly what test were done, what lab it was sent to ( Ohio ) and knew whos signature was on the labs. He is going to check into it for me and send me a swab kit that i will need to collect and mail to him. I have never mailed poop before, lol. He did say he thought Oliver would be fine from what he could see in all the hundreds of photos i brought him. Said if when have not seen signs yet, we may never and six months is a long time to go with that diagnosis. He did say not to bring a bird into our home that has not been exposed ( which we knew ) so on to the Bubba update. New thread in macaw room. Lol

You will NOT guess where mom took me!! She said we were going to go see other birds, and boy did we. But then it happened, someone put a towel around me and started playing with my toes. I didn'like it one bit and told them so real loud. Then he started looking at me, under my wings, doesn't he know NO ONE touches my wings? Then to top it off, he touched my beak with something. How rude! Don't tell anyone but i feel so much better. He fixed my beak! I ate a peanut last night, not just mashed it up but could be more accurate! I slide around my stand now too without any probs! I do however have an issue now grabbing moms arm when we practice my flying. I tried to suprise her when she was eating pizza last night by flying from my stand to her but missed my landing and slid from the chair into the door of my carrier. She felt bad and i gotta bite of her pizza, this could work for me! Mom said the dr said i was the perfect weight and i shouldn't eat too much pizza, it would mess up my figure, so i just gave it to the dogs. I loved using my new beak, couldn't stop!! Oh no, mom and dad brought another cage into the house, whats going on???
-
Hi Jake! Your going to a place where you will be making new forever friends! If i were you, i would be so excited i would eat all the time! ( i'm a nervous eater) Your lucky your mom caught you, at first my mom just watched me fly by and crash, daddy corrected her though and now she puts her arm out for me.
-
Looks like the too will not be coming home with me today. Got a call last night about another blue and gold in need. Husband said we could give it a go, lol. (provided vet gives the ok. Pdd not an issue with this one as Oliver has lived with him before. Just goes to show how many homes poor Oliver had before coming here!) What am i doing??? Lol Like my neighbor said to me, whats one more? You over cook for them anyway so now it doesn't go to waste! Lol Will update on "Bubba" in macaw room.
-
One is enough for me, and he only has one working wing. I have been hit with it and yup it stings a little. They control the bites but flapping is flapping! His morning and evening screams are loud, three of them doing that? Yikes! Lol
