Love that! My macaw and grey both get this but i get the pellets in two sizes for them. Fiesta Max seed mix also the Zupreem Nut with Roudybush and pretty bird fruit pellets mixed in it. Also all the veggies and yummies i can get them to eat. Fruit i limit to a grape, orange and apples, melons as i just hand it to them as treats, we get gnats really bad so no fresh food can be left out for any time, plus it isn't "good" for them!
  2. I am not stopping him from it! He wants to tap on his head, okay! Lol Wasn't sure if it was aggresstion toward the items or like an invite to play. Good thing thoses balls came in a 12 pack, 1 down already. Lol
  3. This is wonderful news! I am so happy to hear this! I really think he is trying hard! The vets office called today to check up on him. I asked about his regurgitating (ms?), the girl was really concerned about it. She said she would contact Dr. Moore, that he was on vacation so it may be tomorrow before i hear back. I told her not to bother him, just ask when he returned. I wasn't sure if he "loved" me or if it was his PDD, but hes eating, drinking and seems just fine, it could wait till Wednesday. Well they called him anyway and he laughed and said it is "love"! Yeah!!! I can not explain how i feel right now. Content, happy, complete! What a great day!
  4. Boy oh boy. Oliver is sure chatty! He says hello very clearly but then will mumble mumble mumble with a hello in the middle of his mumble sentence. Is he trying to say more, to learn more? At 7 yrs is he even able too? I have heard ( or assumed ) he has said "really", and when he is in his food, we can hear " i will find it". His chatting is so cute, he will just go on and on, we go back and forth!
  5. I forgot to ask this, now that he is playing with some things i have noticed he taps things against his head. The ball, the water pitcher when i fill his water. Its like he wants these objects to give him skritches! Normal?
  6. Welcome and congrats!! Do you get to visit your new addition? Can't wait to see him/her! I am owned by 1 grey, 1 b&g macaw, 4 dogs, 1 cat, 3 indoor fish and 13 koi. Oh, and 2 ducks who think our pool is their very own personal pond. (and a squirrel named stumpy who now comes for the peanuts i pull from the birdseed!) Hoarders unite! Lol
  7. Welcome to the group! Can't wait to hear all about your adventures!
  8. Heehee, sometimes those poor dogs deserve it! Lol He has turned this ball playing game into "fetch mama". I guess if i reach the weight i was in high school, maybe this won't be as bad as it feels right now! ( and i am finding out our home has a slant to it! He tosses it off his stand and it will roll thru the living room, down the hall and curve into the guest bathroom. )
  9. Best wishes for you two! You have done a wonderful thing and joining this forum is a second wonderful thing! These guys will give you the best advice you could ever get! Take it slow and easy with your new fid and in return you will get a life time of love and joy!
  10. I would love to see it! He could be good at that. I was outside watching him thru the window as he played with the bigger ball and got to see him aim it for my little dogs head! Direct hit! Then he got the smaller one but missed! Its funny, i was wondering what he would do with it when he was done playing, he put it in his food bowl. Going to find a little box to attach to his stand since he has three toys now!
  11. What a fun time! I am so excited for the two of you!
  12. He played today! With me and all by his self! The whiffle ball is "da bomb" in his eyes! He has also been smitten with my orange juice screw cap! He was on my arm when i opened the fridge door, he spotted that cap, scooted down my arm and started chewing it ( my oj has no lid now but who cares! He loves it! ) He started playing just in time, seems i may be going back to work. Starting the transition with half days for a bit. They have always been out of their cage since they moved in. I'm very sad....:'(
  13. I keep ours at 74-75. Vet said for our nudist guy not to go below 65.
  14. Today started off swell. :-) I work them up and let them out of their cage, opened the drapes and went to start their breakfast. Right away i heard Stewarts, " i'm in trouble " chirp. I went back in to find Oliver on Stewarts cage chasing him. Stewart finally flew off his cage after trying to stand his ground! I never moved Stewarts cage into the other room as i couldn't make up my mind about it. Now i am thinking again that i should. Do you think it would make him feel more secure where he may start talking again? They are only in there at night to sleep, unless i need to run out during the day. I am really tossed about it. On one hand they have been in the same room for 4 months, maybe semi attached to each other for company. on the other hand Oliver is starting to be a bully towards him.
  15. I got whiffle balls for him and Oliver, 2 sizes. Heres a shocker.. Scared to death of them. I strung his beloved paper thru the holes and hung it on his stand to get use to the scary ball. We had a first last night, i am so excited! He let me rub, scratch, tickle him for about 5 minutes! Before I was only allowed to give him 2-3 little rubs right on his neck. I was going from his beak to mid back both with and against his feathers! I was even able to kiss the top of his head twice! He also flew off his stand to find me when i had left to go to the store. ( daddy was home ) He flew to the entry hall and was walking to the door! I think getting love will be his game of choice for a while! Thats okay with me! I didn't expect to have this strong a bond with him this soon after getting them both in January.
  16. Holy cow! I was about out of the roudybush for the boys and so was the pet store. So I got that Nut Blend and both the boys love it. Smells like peanut butter! Even my macaw, who is hooked on nuts, was eating this as if it were a real nut! It has only been 4 days with it but when Oliver starts demanding his nut i can offer him one of those and he is happy ( even though he has a bowl full of the stuff right beside him!) Great stuff!
  17. Oliver is getting brave! I have started having him say "hello" in place of his screaming to be picked up if i am not in the room. I guess he didn't want to say hello when he was ready to come out of his room. As my husband walked past the hall, he asked if i did that? I went to look and see what he was talking about... This is what we saw.... I also had my first with Stewart today. We were sitting watching tv tonight and he was stepping from hand to hand making a purring sound with each step. He settled down and lowered his head. Now, he only lets me pet him on the back of his neck and only 2-3 strokes then he turns and bites. Tonight, about 5 minutes of rubbing, both directions and from his beak to his back, not one nip! I even kissed the top of his head twice! When i ran to the store, he was on his stand since daddy was home, and Pat said right after i shut the door Stewart flew after me. He loves me!!! Lol Today he does anyway.
  18. Its all good. No glazes or anything else that could harm them!
  19. Yeah! What wonderful news! Welcome to the rest of your new life with more smiles and laughing than you ever expected!
  20. I wouldn't assume that! I believe rescues understand what has been done for them and although you may not see it right off, they love you even more than one that hasn't been treated badly because they have lived through both experiences!
  21. Thanks! Oliver has turned into a stinker! We created a monster! Lol He is like one of the dogs, if i ask him if he wants to go outside, he will start pumping his wings and gets so excited he loses his balance!
  22. I may not explain this correctly but here goes... My thought is a punch metal screen of sorts. You could make one with hinges to wrap around columns. ( like room dividers but altered to your need ) Or... The command strips are wonderful and do not damage walls or varnish. They go by weight so you could use them to hang window coverings, even around the columns. ( put rope/string thru both top and bottom hems of say shears, attach with command strip hooks to column and scrunch em together like pleats )
  23. My grey, Stewart has picked up a squeaky door and my dogs whining when she wants out! Thats fun, keeps me running to the back door all day.
  24. It is concrete, about 15 years old, i don' believe they glaze them. The place i bought it from is still in business, i will go there tomorrow and find out. They make them there so they "should" know. Lol I don't let them in there unless i am there. Which is easy since right now they are scared of it!
