  1. Well, guess what? Todays the day! Aviary makin day! Poor guys haven't been out in a while, but that ends today! Hubby is as excited as i am, even decorating it. I was looking online for 2 days for a manzanite bush, tree, evergreen, whatever they class it as, only found i place that sells tubes. If this is native to Ca., why is it so hard to purchase? Not one nursery around here has even heard of it. Lol oh well, i will post pictures of their first outting as soon as i can! (Stewart tried to fly last night inside, didn't go so well.) This is like waiting for your new baby bird excitement i have going on right now. They are going to be so happy!
  2. Lol, i will. I am going to try the squash dish you suggested! For the birds of course... Lol
  3. Heehee, my mom hated dinner time. I was the the snotty kid who wouldn't try anything new. I ate Mrs Grass noodle soup, still do. My husbands groom cake had a can of Spaggetti as a topper, with good luck written on it. There is alot out there i haven't tried but having these birds, i am atleast bringing it home and offering it to them! ( i didn't throw the food at my mom though like they do to me!) There was one night i had baked a piece of fish and steamed carrots and broccoli for the boys, my husband came home and was excited about the dinner he "thought" i had made for all of us. (I only had one piece of fish! He ended up taking me out for dinner, that could have my evil plan!)
  4. I also have a blue and gold macaw. I have gotten some great advice given to me by members here as he was sickly when i got him. My husband found a macaw site as Oliver was "his" bird but he tired of their know it all attitudes and left. I showed him the thread i had started here and he reads it now daily before bed, he loves this forum! It may bring him in as he actually found ya'll for me and my grey to begin with! Lol
  5. Ahhhh, this is the info i like! I have read all the things i should be feeding them, and like i said, i look at these veggies dumbfounded. I like seeing what i can do with them! I have tried many receipes from that thread, but beyond that its either raw or steamed. I am going to try juice in the noodles tonight! Yeah! Thanks for the ideas!
  6. Phonebook was delivered today! I will be collecting everyones in the neighborhood too! Lol they are still all at work, they'll never miss it!
  7. He would do a little crouch before he went and i would say paper, sometimes we made it to the paper, most times not. Each time we would get closer and closer though so i didn't give up. Now he will crouch down but stand right back up and cock his head at me, if i miss it, he has a "right now" chirp he will use. Now grant you, we still have mishaps, but he will go in my hand if need be. Lol.
  8. Welcome to you and Bongo! Very cute!
  9. Wow, i never knew that about the peanuts since they come in the parrot seed. I always pull them out when i fill their bowl and use one a night as their nite-nite bedtime treat. I got a yellow squash yesterday and i looked at for a while trying to figure out how to give it to them. Lol Do i steam it, do i give it raw? I don't eat them so had no clue. I gave up and said well if they are in the wild they couldn't cook it, so raw it is. I sliced them like chips and handed to them. Stewart threw his but Oliver loved it! I do have a noodle question. Olivers previous owner said he loved noodles, Ramone (ms?). The flavor packet is loaded with salt and he won't eat it without it. I used half the package but then rinsed the noodles before giving it to him and he ate like a pig. Is this ok in moderation? (he is in need of gaining some weight)
  10. When Stewart is doing something he knows he shouldn't and i retrieve him he gives me the raspberry right after he steps up. Lol he came with that noise!
  11. So far been lucky with that. We had potty issues the first month, now they let us know, with time, to get them where they need to go. I think potty training was all we did that first month. Lol My grey actually was walking on our kitchen table and had to go but before i could get to him he threw paper on the floor from the table then pooped on it all by his self. Granted we needed the papers he tossed but we couldn't stop laughing at him!
  12. Made me cry, i love it and it is so true! When they fly to me and give me kisses, that is their choice and always a moment of pure joy and pride for me!
  13. That is what i was going to suggest... Start making toys and reading! Lol You can never have enough toys, they end up in every room in the house! Cosmo and All stuff on Alex were my favorite books!
  14. I agree. This girl was housed in the same cage as Oliver and with his issues i would be at the vet getting bloodwork done asap!
  15. She thinks another bird to keep her company is going to fix it. I told her no to that, flat out no. First off it won't fix her secondly, i can see it now, she will get a quaker and that would be the last time she ever attempts to handle the one she already has. My husband is already feeling that we will end up with her even though we shouldn't with Oliver, but i already know of a good home that really would take care of her affection wise. They do give her all good food, vitamins, sunshine and baths but nothing can replace a good cuddle session! I should add the she sits on the husbands lap each night, so she says, but since he is afraid of her he won't pet any part of her but her head. So it isn't that she is locked in a cage. I know when they get home from work, the cage is open and she is free to go where ever she wants in the house and in the morning she is in the kitchen with them having breakfast at the table, so in that way, she is spoiled! They need to just get bit so the fear will be over! Lol
  16. Oh what an evening with Oliver. It seems our relax before bedtime does just the opposite for him! He was everywhere and into everything. The birds room use to be a workout room so there were framed mirrors all over. Most we covered with colorful sheets but left one behind Stewarts cage bc it is the length of the wall. He tore it up. After 4 months he decided he needed to remove the wood trim from around it. Guess i will be covering that one today somehow. I saw Mary Ann yesterday, she looks awful. I have seen pictures of over grooming in extreme but she is worse then the pictures. Other than her tail and head where she can't reach she has scissored all her feathers. Even the new ones coming in, destroyed. I don't know what to tell her to do. Rope for her to preen, lots of toys to keep her busy, baths even. She does all this for her, she just keeps on doing it. I fear this just isn't the right bird for them. They are both afraid of her. Yesterday she was scratching her head and Mary Ann lifted her wings, she wouldn't pet her there cuz she was scared. I made her and all was good but that was the first time she has touched her without a glove. My husband and myself have been bitten by her yet they haven't which tells me they are not working with her. They got the glove last week. This could be her distress, no real touching and now a glove. But how do i tell her this?
  17. Hey! During our calm down time tonight, while Stewart was on my chest as i layed on the couch he found a chew toy! The collar of the tee shirt i was wearing! It is okay with me, chew away my love if thats what makes you happy, its daddy shirt! Lol Now i feel like a parront and have the holes in my shirt to prove it!
  18. Lol, my cat who is both indoors and out is scared to death of my birds, i think it is more the macaw beak that scared her but hey, whatever worked! Had a startled flight and Stewart landed near the cat. I can not recall ever seeing a cat jump so high straight up in the air with her feet in running position for her life! I do not let them be alone though. If Cook is inside and the boys are out, she is locked in a room.
  19. Welcome! I love the phone ringing... Mine just started whining like my dogs, he has fooled me twice already today! His stand is near the back door and the dogs go to the door and cry to go out! Great! I guess i can call it exercise.
  20. I should have known, now it is forcasted for Thursday night and Friday morning. Lol Your right, by the 5 pm news they will probably change it to snow and sleet.
  21. I have the Shark vac and steam. It does work great on the floors. I have both tile and wood through out my house. No carpets! It did however aquire a leak from the back of the water tank so it gets wetter than it should but i just throw a towel down and shuffle around, before though it worked great and dried very quickly.
  22. Haha, just saw the news, rain in the forcast for Thursday and Friday. Figures!
