Okay, finally got a good giggle out of Gus's antics. He has been getting better with letting Pat put his harness on him but tonight when i got the harness out and gave it to Pat, Gus turned his back to him to allow him to put it on. Pat was not quick enough though, so Gus started turning in circles on the chair, stopping with his back to him each time lifting his foot like hurry up, i am so ready! Then started mumbling at him! Too dang cute!

Gabby helping huh? Lol Okay, i will try to explain to her exactly what the word help means!

You did a wonderful thing bringing these 2 home with you. We are all here to help, please keep us updated!

What i really love is how funny we all think that is when its in writing. Yet we have all experienced it in real life with our fids and we worried, got frustrated and felt like we were doing something wrong. Makes it so much better when others are going through the exact same thing! All of those hit home for me, the yellow pellets on the floor and why are the dogs not dead is my fav!! Thanks for posting that!

Well well well. Gabby tossed the broom from the chair tonight, Gus took off flying. Now she knows that the broom bothers him, so just as we thought we were getting Gus under control, gotta watch out for Gabby teasing him! Gesh, the fun just never ends does it? Even Oliver is getting cocky, tonight for the first time ever he climbed to my shoulder. With his lack of balance all that flashed through my mind was that giant beak taking a hunk out of my head. Got him back down without issue, yeah! Lol

I spoke with our vet about this and we are trying a broom, since he is scared of them. He suggested that when we are in the kitchen set the broom against the chair, between his stand and the actual kitchen, and it will keep him from flying at us. It has worked so far, also the screaming has lessened. We just have to make sure not to do this often or he will get conditioned to the broom being there. We decided not to clip him yet, that will be our very last resort. He really has behaved since he bit me, even went outside into the aviary this weekend and he played, not screamed the whole time. Bedtime has even improved. Vet suggested i use his foraging toys for his food, not treats. He throws his food out as soon as it hits the bowls so he said maybe put his pellets in the puzzle toys and let him work for it, this too has been working, i just feel bad when i look at his empty bowls. ( I still put some in his bowls but he tosses it to the bottom so i gotta remember, he really does have food in there! ) Now we are back to dealing with Bubbas butt. He has some blood on his bottom Sunday. The scar tissue has blocked him up now, so finger up the butt stretching has to done. We noticed last week his poop was sticking around his butt so we bathed him alot to keep it clean, also to keep checking for another tumor. No growths so thats good news atleast!

Here is Gabby, she has a 90 degree bend in her leg. 20, almost 21 now, and she is the terror of of house. By that i mean she is everywhere, not afraid of anything and gets into everything! The only thing " special" she gets is a much fatter sleeping perch and a shelf in her cage for resting.

Knock on wood, my greys have not done that yet. Bubba has though, to a branch on his stand and Gus will do it to anything he can stand on. ( hand, shoulder, knee, my head, my forehead even the back of my dog)

Just my opinion on the carriers trancework just posted: I bought one for Bongo, we used it one time. I got it in the summer and the whole time i was worried about him being to hot inside of it. It just reminded me of the kids frying ants in the sun under glass. I don't even want to sell it to recoup my money as i am afraid of someone buying it and not paying attention when they put their bird in it. Be nice in the winter i guess but a blanket over his new one works just as good.

So, aside from insanity, how did Papa come into your life? And i kinda like his name, i get called smurf all the time though so i could be bias, :-)
-
Great, Gus was having, yet again, another meltdown. I was getting ice from the freezer and he took off flying, landing on my shoulder where he grabbed my neck, yet again... This was a bite however, i have three puncture holes and a huge welt. What the poop is he thinking???
-
ROTFLMAO! And this is how it begins! Stand strong and only take in what you can handle and afford.
-
Can not say i have, good luck with your search though. Ever thought of rehoming one thats in need locally? They are just as special, i promise! :-)

Welcome and congrats to you both! Ask anything you need to and remember there are no silly questions, we all had to start somewhere! Posting pictures is always a good thing too! (hint hint) :-) -
Tonight she heard him and flew to the bedroom door, knocking on it. I opened the door for her and off she went to her daddy. Pat ventured out to see the other fiddos but Gus threw a fit! He hadn't seen then since bedtime Sunday and i guess Gus was mad. I got bite on the back of my neck, then my thumb trying to get him off my back.( he saw Pat, freaked out, crown up and took off flying landing on my neck/back area) Then Bubba and Oliver started screaming, oh good times, took Pat back to bed and birdies stopped fussing. I guess while he is home during the day, he needs to atleast stick his head in their room in the morning and say hi. ( thats tuff to do, if they know someone is home, its screamapalooza. If you get sick in this house, you still have to pretend your going to work or there is no rest to be had)

She is a spoiled stinker. After her dr visit, i got home and had to take Pat to the er clinic. He hurt his back and couldn't walk. He has been in bed except for the occasional walk i force him to take. He hasn't seen the birds since Sunday night. She spotted him last night and was hell bent on getting to him. Plowed past the dogs and knocked on the bedroom door. I opened the door for her and in she ran, right to Pat and wouldn't leave his side! Kisses non stop!

Lol. I am only sayig to myself, about myself! I said it once in front of the birds and then looked at Bubba and thought, " great, now instead of pthh he is going to start calling me dumb ass". Oh, Gus can say Pat now. Still not a one here that will say my name.

So, its been a bit since i updated. First off, he is winning! He is no longer in his cage like the others at dinner time, we gave up on behalf of the rest of the flock. If his screaming gave me heartburn while i was at the other side of the house, i couldn't begin to think what it was doing to the others right in the same general area. Second, with the nice weather, he gets harnessed and goes outside with us. Yes, winter will be hell for us but atleast we can have a few quiet months. Starting to get him use to the car also, just a few little trips back and forth in the drive way. It was all going good until he discovered the seat belt that he could pull on and let go of and snap me in the chest with. Why i put my seatbelt on for a roll down the driveway is beyond me, but i did and now he is obsessed with in. There have been no more lil trips. Pat has started calling me Red, from the 70's show because all i seem to be saying to myself any more is "dumb ass" !

Okay so she has a bumm leg, but out of 5 parrots she is the healthiest! He described her leg as our calf and half way down it bends at a 90 degree angle. He said if she were younger he may suggest it be fixed but at her age, she is use to it and has learned to compensate for it and it doesn't slow her down. Her weight is good at 455. I was told when she came to us that she had been to Dr. Moore with one of her previous owners and it seemed she remembered him some after he talked to her. He is going to look into his older records and see what he can find, all i could add was that she called someone she lived with Howard. Lol. He trimmed her nails and made her beak smooth and pretty again and said for her age and leg, she put up one hell of a fight to not be handled! She came back to me and just said hello! God, i love good news for a change!

I already had Bongo, Oliver and Bubba when Gabby came to us. When we went to see her, she gave me kisses and let me hold her, i fell in awe of her. The minute she was in our home she turned on me. Hubba was all hers and I couldn't get near her. It has been many months, many many months, i still can not interact with her like Pat does and i may never get to. I can now atleast pick her up and move her if need be. She will lower her head to me like she wants a head tickle, then make this knocking sound and Lord help if my hand is near her! Pat and her play this beak game where she runs to him and puts her beak between his fingers and he kind of swings her in a circle, she loves this game so Pat talked me into trying it with her. That resulted in big blood loss and Pat having to pry her beak off my finger. He was shocked at her reaction, i was shocked that i gave my fingers up for sacrafice! I have to take her to her vet today, so i am sure there will be some attitude for the next week! If yours is flying and attacking, keep him in his cage until you can give all your focus to him. Our cockatoo is now flying without warning to us and bites on landing, we know he is not use to flying but those balance bites hurt none the less. He gets to still come out but when he starts flying at whim, he gets time out. I have busted my jaw open from him flying onto my back while i was bent over in a cabinet and he nipped on landing. We are working hard on getting him to fly to us when we call him, but he still prefers the shock flights! As hard as it seems, time is all you can offer to help him find a happy medium with you. They pick up on our feeling so keep positive and don't give up.

Welcome to you both! I really like that name, Apu.

What a great feeling that must have been!
