Wonderful progress! Congo looks so happy! What a great job you two are doing together.

Gus has been doing very good, or we have become deaf, not really sure which. Pat and him have a new game of keep away they play with a block of wood, it was funny to watch but when they were done i freaked out a bit. His black beak and tongue were blue from the wood. Pats fingers were blue also, i felt a little better when he washed his hands and the dye came right off. I got him some roller skates too, now that was funny. He was just fine standing on them but when they moved with him he took off flying straight at me and i was laughing to hard to duck! He may actually get the hang of them!

Welcome Chris. You got sound advice from Birdhouse, not much i can add to that! I have a nudist blue and gold, no chance of ever getting his feathers back but he is my sweet love bug. Of five parrots, he loves snuggling as much as our umbrella cockatoo. Our two gerys each show their affection in their own way and to their chosen, hubby has Gabby who tolerates me and i have Bongo who only lets hubby pick him up when i am not around. There is no way of telling if either of those greys will unpack their baggage and be like you expect. Case in point, Gabby, when we went to pick her up she let me hold and handle her even gave me kisses which assured the people we got her from that all would be good. She got home with us and turned on me! The next "kiss" i got from her resulted in the first of many bites to come. She was smart enough to know to do anything to get out of the home she was in and excelled with her acting. Spend some time with these two and let them choose you instead! That will make your choice easier. There is no better feeling then having a grey come to you and in their special way say "I pick you!".

No kidding, he did pretty good on his new stand location yesterday. Took some time coaxing him out of his room, he had to stop in the doorway and chew it to the 2x4 frame. I guess it helped him think cuz he came out after a bit, wandered down the hall to the living room. When Pat got home is when the screaming started, but during the day he did great. Lol

Yeah and kudos to you both!

Welcome to the family! Congrats!

Welcome! Fighting tears for your macaw, you are a special person for helping him and giving him the life he deserves! I have greys, blue and golds and an umbrella. First thing i was advised was to not have the greys in the same sleeping room as the macaws as the greys produce so much dust and the macaw nostrals are large and it could cause respitory issuse. One of my guys already has breathing issues so we keep them seperate. As far as who is who in the pecking order, your new grey will be #1 like it or not! Lol We just try for equal time with them all.

So, we have Bongo, Gabby who are CAGS, both know their names and respond. Gabby calls hubby (Pat) Howard and Bongo has only said his name once that Pat got to hear. Then we have 2 blue and golds, Oliver and Bubba. Oliver only says hello and once he did say Bubba. Bubba says alot, both know their names and Bubba even says "what" when you call him. Then there is Gus, an umbrella who does know his name but has selective hearing. He mumbles words and you can make them out but his fav saying is "pick me up!" which he says anytime he isn't on you. They don't call these guys velcro birds for nothing.

So, he got me again on my lower neck, back area. I had set my mind on getting him clipped just a bit to try and curb this action but then it hit me. He isn't flying to me but rather jumping which may be reason he bites to get his balance. Wing clip won't help. So we rearranged our living room furniture yet again to fit his stand in there with the big boys. It took two full days to figure out how but we did it, minus one lazy boy recliner. Atleast now if he flies, he has some time and i get some warning. Of course i am completly scared of him flying at me and i duck and run with the flutter of any wings now. I am not afraid of him, just the flying. As i walked thru the room yesterday carrying a dog pillow, i heard flutter and took off running down the hallway dropping and covering with the pillow. He went past me and landed but looked at me like i was crazy! I am crazy and he drove me here!

I would guess from Dan's laughter, he has done it before! I never hung the ones i gave my guys, just broke off a clump and put it in the bowls, that was messy enough!

I ask daily why i am not thinner! Our umbrella will toss every toy from his bucket except for the one he has chosen to play with. He has a method to his tossing like this... One toy out, i pick it up, as soon as i stand the second toy hits the floor, down, up, down, ouch that one hits my head and its usually the block of wood, up. I would leave them on the floor but i have a hoarding chihuahua who steals and hides them. It is like Christmas when we clean her bed, 99% almond shells.

Gabby has this look she gives us. Her normally round eyes change to slits, her head cocks to the side and she will waddle off to whatever we told her not to do and do it, just to tick us off. We know she is doing to make us mad because she will look back at us as if to say, " You dared to tell me no, ha, you fools. You shall pay for that mistake".

Advice: ~20 year old rescue or purchase baby from breeder

I call it face soap but it isn't a staple in my home cuz i wanna stay married!

I am glad he is ok this morning but darn, with 1 3/4 naked birds i was really hoping you had stumbled onto something that could help! Lol Not sure what happened or if Nancy was offended, her reply had a "lol" after her come back. I really was enjoying this thread and laughing out loud, then it took a turn. The concern was answered and humor injected. Come on everyone, just relax and enjoy. Everything in our daily life is so serious that this was a good break!

Raising the hand didn't work. The birds must be getting into the mood, tis the season. I had to take my happy pill tonight after my second bite on the neck from Gus. I am clueless how to stop this free flight to me short of clipping and i do not want to do that. He was happily on Pats shoulder and bam he flew to me and bit to balance. It ever my greys were going to learn bad language tonight would have been the night. He got me right over the same place he got me earlier. Arrrggghhhh! Happy thoughts, happy thoughts...

I do not cover my flock but they have their own room(s) so its easier. There was a time in the begining we thought they needed the cover but they told us really quickly that was not what they wanted! Lol My best advise for you is to listen to your new baby, words or not, he will tell you what he needs! I was given that advise over a year ago from a member on this forum and it was the best thing i could have heard!

What a fun looking house of birds!

My thoughts are with you! Please keep us updated.

Welcome! Our greys are the quietest of the bunch. Just be careful what you teach them, lol. One of mine screams like a girl, loudly.

Haha, i love it! Beak of doom! I got another scolding tonight, i started talking while him and Pat were chatting. I got a what for. Pat had to calm him down telling him how i i didn't mean to talk over him, that i wasn't being rude or mean... Gesh. I am loosing control.

Deep breath! Your baby is getting great care from both you and your doctor. I do agree with just the water right now. It is just my experience with my pluckers that the plain old water does them best when they are irritated. We put water in the tub and put our shower on the mist setting and they just melt into it. Now, i am not saying aloe isn't good for them because it is, just that sometimes less is more! Get well soon!

Ahh, much less painful and embarassing evening. Gabby however is killing us! Sitting on the couches, she flew after Gus in full attack mode because he was too close to Pat. Nothing like seeing a little grey chasing a umbrella too and winning. Then we gave up on peace and went to the kitchen, Pat was going to let the macaws play together so he set Oliver on the love seat to get their table set up. Gabby attacked Oliver, knocked him off the couch. We felt so bad for Oliver until later when we discovered a few pretty red tail feathers on the floor. That love seat is hers by God, Pat is the only one other than her that is allowed on it. Gus has really started talking alot. I am not sure though if it is really talking or if being his mom and dad, only we can understand him! He did take off on a rant yelling at me, that time though i was glad i couldn't understand him. Getting yelled at by a bird isn't fun at all. ( i am pretty sure he didn't like the shrimp i offered him and was telling me so. )
