The deed has been done. :-( Gus has been clipped. Took a few at a time to make sure it wasn't drastic. He glides to the floor, no altitude and dare i say not only were Pat and i more at ease but Gus seemed happier also. He was on the floor pushing his toys around having a great time. He tried for our feet a few times but we said no, stood our ground and he just went back to playing. It has only been half a day but i am hopeful this may help! Before the clip he was never on the floor, he always wanted on us or by us, it seems he is more self reliant and actually can play by himself!

Wow, the first thing i pulled up on there was awsome and so easy to do, I can not believe i hadn't thought of it. That is really a great site, thank you. Now if we could teach Gus to read so he could make his own toys that would be great! He is really starting to wear us down. This flying and grabbing my neck, right now i have 8 beak holes in the back of my neck and Pat has joined my club with 4 of his own now. I had to laugh at Pat though, everytime i got bit he would try and tell me what I was doing wrong, dropping my shoulders or squishing up my shoulders to protect my neck and ears. Out of no where Gus started biting Pat when he landed and boy was Pat getting mad, screaming ow, no bite them coming to me for sympathy. All i could could say between my inside laughter was see Pat, no reason, and stop whining cuz you have a long way to go to catch up to me in the bite count area! Then he said, Well that hurts, the neck is tender.... LOL, Ya think, really, hmmm?

Oh Nancy, my thoughts and prayers are with you both. I hope you have a happy ending to this heartbreaking time.

That is what we used. The hot dipped. Happy building!!!

I only have one that we are his second home, the others i know we are at least the 3rd if not 4th home. But for sure the last until we pass away. I use to think Gabby was our most challanging one, but it is turning out to be my proud Bongo. I thought Gabby but it turns out she just isn't a fan of me, loves her daddy though. Bongo has always been quiet and we called him our statue because he would just freeze when we would come into view. He was always accepting of new things, cage, toys, stands etc. Now looking back, he was frozen with fear. After everything has calmed down now i can see how much those things bothered him but he was to proud to really "tell" us. Now when he gets upset, he chews on his nails and we know to stop and help him past the stress. He is still not out of his shell but he will now call to me and after i call back he will fly to me and he does this because he wants too which, i will admit, makes me tear up every time. We are coming up on two years of him with us and he teaches me things everyday. We just have to be open to learn!

LOL, I don't think i ever asked or if i did and he told me why this is happening, i do not rememebr. I do remember that he told us this is something that will/could last his lifetime. Boy, he must be feeling a little better though, tonight he was bugging Oliver so bad that Oliver wanted away. He ran to me to pick him up so I did, and Bubba was so mad that Pat picked him up but wouldn't let him by Oliver. Bubba bit the snot out of him. He went to his first time out where he said hello in so many different tones trying to get us in there. He won, we went in. lol

So he got a soaking bath yesterday to clean up the area so we could get a closer look and hopefully push it back inside him if we could. After the soak his butt was pretty clear and we could not find it again. Maybe it went back in by itself, who knows but the poor guy took a big ol poop right after and was very happy. Still going to keep a very close eye on it, have the ointment ready! He was so happy he let me give him kisses and gave them back to me, that is a first since he ripped my lip open. He even let me preen his new feathers in his head and neck.
-
It sure isn't. This poor guy has been through the ringer more than any of the others thats for sure. I guess all the tears over Oliver and his pdd got me ready to tackle anything because instead of crying and whining about it, we laid out a plan of attack to get him over this bump, so to speak.

Welp, Bubba looks to have another cyst on his bumm. CRAP!!!!!!!!!!

I couldn't wait to have a moment to check in on you and am so happy to hear you have her back! We are going to enclose the eave area by our back door and put in another door a little off to the side so if by chance one tries to follow us out there is a secondary safe net. With the 4 dogs going in out all day and night, i feel i am starting to push my luck. Gus actually flew into the door as i was shutting it this weekend.

Actually, ours started as a dog run we bought off craigslist for 50.00. Remove the chainlink!! A few couplers to add poles to make it taller cuz hubby didn't want to duck to enter it. Then covered in bird safe wire we got from a feed store and used cage clips to join the wire together. We were able to buy sweeps from the electrical dept at Home Depot to go around the tree too. It was a fun weekend project and total cost for both cages ended up at about $500.00 with left over material to start Gus's own aviary.

Best of luck to you, my thoughts will be with you both during this trying time.

Gus woke up in a bad mood Saturday. I guess it happens to everyone! Everyone was outside and he was running after Gabby with his mouth open so he didn't get to stay out. We put him on his stand and all was good, he was quiet. That led us to assume he was into something, Pat checked on him and before he shut the door i heard, "Nooooo" from Pat. I looked in and he was in the kitchen, over the cabinets with my mom's measuring cups she had made over 60 years ago in his mouth! I closed my eyes and prayed. Pat got them from him without incident, put his harness on and the back yard clean up came to a halt. Lol Same thing Sunday, front yard cleaning and Gus in his harness, a few leashes tied to a tree and boy did he have fun climbing and picking limbs off the tree and throwing them at me. He is really talking up a storm too. Not just words here and there but conversations that actually make sense. In his cage yesterday before i woke them up, i am in the kitchen getting coffee and i hear, "Is anyone out there?" i thought it was a fluke, but Pat said he hears it in the mornings when he is getting ready for work, he said it breaks his heart to hear it, wondering how he heard those words to repeat them.

We called them last weekend as i had a lead on a home for him, they never answered or responded to their voice mail. Called a few more times during the week, still no answer so i have to believe he found a good home.
-
Yup, thats what i hear too. Lots of peek a boos! Thanks for sharing!

Guster is doing pretty good, learning the keyboard and still bored. Lol i put a box in his cage, not sure but think he hates it, hasn't been on the floor of his cage since. That is good for me, means he isn't shredding his paper and throwing it out, but bad for him cuz he loved making mommy bend and clean! He now has a time out cage for his screaming and nipping. He got Pats ear last night, not bad but enough for him to know how i felt! It is in a dark room away from all the others. It isn't working but atleast we are trying something and not just whining about him! :-) I think we have had it a few weeks now. I hate how habits form so quickly but take forever to break! I found out something interesting last night when we ran into a girl from our vets office. ( she is the one who always worked with Bubba ) She pet sits as most of them do up there on the side. She doesn't spend the night but atleast can play with them and not just put food out for them and leave, and they all know her so thats a plus. She also lives nearby!

Very normal with my 2. They do come out in twos, sometimes we find both sometimes not. After a year and half, i am still finding Bongos trimmed feathers from when we brought him home too. He is flighted now so i often wonder where they keep coming from! Any more nothing is shocking me in this bird house!
-
Oh thank heavens you found her! I was ready to call in to work and drive there to help you search! As relieved as i am, i could only guess how you feel now!
-
Lol, up all night! Thats funny! Great picture. I wish i could put rope in Bongos cage, he is a hanger to, but he would just chew the rope up and then get mad at us becuse we have to pull out the rope that gets packed in the jaw area of his beak.
-
Great first step up! Trust is indeed growing.
-
I am so happy for all of you! Love the name too, she is so pretty and the name fits her!
-
I love it when i get home and go to Bongo's cage and you can see in his expression that he can't decide if he should take his eyes off of the tv or look at me. I get that sideways look from him. Close Encounters played last week and he wouldn't even look my way and he almost mastered the sound that movie is known for. He has now moved on to The Good, The Bad whistle.
-
Ahh, that is right up his ally, I am going to go this weekend and get a few! I put a box in his cage last night and put some of his toys inside it. I hope he enjoys it today. Noticing he wasn't challanged made us look at all the others cages, Bongo's looked barron. When did that boy destroy his toys? He had a straw hat with 4 strings hanging from it, a coconut hanging cockeyed and his play phone and 1/4 of a phonebook and only 1 bell left that still makes noise. Everything else was gone, I can't believe i missed it! Gesh, the next bird show is October. I guess i need to get creative this weekend and start making some toys!

Welcome Big Boy! Thank goodness my flock stopped with 1 U2, (2 Cags, 2 macaws) Our greys hang out on our shoulder while we play with the big guys, it is a blast! They greys are so different with their strong opinions, and you learn to obey them or pay the price!!
