We had to to hide our remotes in a metal box with a lid, missing a few rubber buttons. Dang girl figured out how to take the lid off and broke it! The number 2 on a remote is over rated anyway! My hubby suggested that i suggest to all new parrot owners to add gorilla super glue to the list of must haves in your home! My sugar jar lid can not be glued together anymore, one more toss to the floor and Gabby may as well toss it in the trash!

Jeff, I saw you had posted after the storms and was very happy to see that. Our thoughts are with everyone.

Let's all be grateful in this happy moment

I have no words other than to say what a blessing. -
Gus got me twice yesterday, flying to land on me but grabbing skin for balance. I felt like those tomato pin holders except i bleed. He got the back of my neck while i was trying to fill the coffee pot with water. I ended up watering my sugar, counter, side of the fridge and the floor instead. That was about the time Pat walked in, i was just standing there looking at the mess and he had the gull to ask, "What cha doing?" It just wasn't my night, i also threw a beer in my own face. Thank heaven only the birds saw that, Bubba laughed, but i am hoping he won't keep bringing it up and rubbing it in.

That or your bird will start taking off your keys, leaving you to look like you can't spell anymore!

I have not been on facebook in years, been really thinking about signing up again to get those Felix isims. They are priceless and could only be written by someone owned by a grey!

I agree, this is good progress but i would stop the gloves. I know your thinking, sure just let my boyfriend get bit. That really isn't the case. In our situation when the bird bit, they go back to the start, we wait a few minutes then try again. Sooner or later they learned that if they bit, they didn't get to the other area. Also we discovered that with Gabby, nothing can be in our hands when we hold her. Not even a small paperclip, she knows and takes advantage of it. Bongo also hated or feared my husband when we got him and we decided that i would be his "safety" and Pat didn't even try to handle him. Now that he has settled, a year and a half later, Pat has started working with him to be able to hold him and bring him from his cage to the stand. They do not accept everyone right off and forcing it can cause setbacks and frustration for you guys and your grey.

(not so good) News from bird club meeting.

The part i am trying to sort thru is the thought of just passing this bird on to become a breeder, why, because he is wild caught? Because of his age? Because he is going to need need more help than expected? Believe me, no one is trying to upset you with our replies on here. Sometimes we have to ask hard questions to understand, we are not there with you two. I went back and read your threads from when you joined and the progress has been great, that is what we have to go by, then this is posted so please understand my confusion. I really think you have been doing good for your grey, don't give up on him. Okay, so he is 30 yrs old, i would love to see his remaining life filled with love and tenderness and understanding. Say he is wild caught, hasn't he been through enough already. Taken from the wild, his flock then into a cage with who knows what kind of life until now. He is just tugging my heart strings and i just want to cry for him at the thought of being passed around again to have another, who knows what kind of life in a cage with a stranger and expectations to mate. We humans have caused his baggage, i just don't want us to cause more for this guy. -
Welcome and congrats! Your new life is just begining, it will be wonderful!

We play towel games with all of our guys too. Getting them use to towels make it so much easier and a little less stressful when they have to go to the vet. 3 out of 5 can be swaddled like babies and carried around like one now. We started by speading the towel out and letting them play on it, then we would hid toys under it letting them discover what was under it. That moved to tossing the corner areas at them a little at a time without touching them until we could actually place it over them. It is suggested to do this with a white towel, as color towels could scare them and most vets use white. This did take us months to achieve and 2 of them still are just on the towel but thats okay, its still good bonding time! I wish you the best with your guy! -
Could not agree more! Last night was an eye opener for sure. Last year when this season came around we had 3 birds and i wasn't working so there was some thinking time, not that way now.

Love that prayer! So very true, my life is now nothing but making sure the fiddos are happy. Servent to the feathered.

We are good here. 12-14 people are still missing, 6 confirmed dead. Hopefully they made it out and just have not checked in with the red cross. The storms were so thick that they masked the tornados. Surrounding towns are a mess. Hubby works at Home Depot in the Ft Worth/ Arlington area and they will be out today in the communities doing clean ups no doubt. Lesson learned though, don't wait till the last minute to be sure your safe room is cleaned out enough to fit everyone! Our room is will be getting a full clean out this weekend to accomidate 5 parrots, 4 dogs and 1 cat and me and hubby and a fish, Spike our beta. If we had to use it last night we wouldn't have fit!

Watching the news like hawks. Have our plan of who grabs who and where we go, pretty sure it is going to miss us. Thank you!

Nah, he should blame us for this one. The washer was too small. Never even gave it a thought, it was secure for a normal bird who perches, lol, Gus however is a bouncer and jumper. He just bounced one to many times and jarred it loose. No worse for wear and still sweet as can be. There is a bad storm moving in and the emergency broadcast keeps coming across on tv, the babies are all getting animated, well Bongo isn't but then again he hardly ever does, unless you shake a bottle with Cherrios inside it! Moving food and water to the safe room, just in case.

I have sen many with the red factor. The last one i found a home for had a beautiful red necklace. My Bongo also has a single red feather on his wing every once and a while. I have seen it twice in a year and a half. I don't agree with breeders altering a grey but it is beautiful when its natural.

Had a small mishap last night. All has been going good and bedtime had become less stressful with the screaming until... The guys were were all doing their night time playing in their cages settling in for the night when Gus jumped onto a perch and it fell. Hell broke loose, understandably. I opened the door to get the perch but i guess it reminded him of the broom handle and he attacked. I had to jump behind the door for protection as he was flying at me from inside the cage, he made it out and was so upset. Pat was the only one who could calm him down. But then Pat grabbed the perch to put it back in for him, its his food bowl perch, and he started again. Pat wasn't in the room when the first attack happened so didn't know he would react like that. He hid the perch until we can work on the cage when he is out of it today. Good thing i guess he tosses his food out of the bowls, i feel less bad about him being perchless at that bowl today. Gesh, i fear the two steps back that could happen from this.

I'm with you all. I just saw this post, it would be interesting to watch but a heck of a lot of work for you both!

I have a double macaw cage that i use the divider in for my 2 cags. Your perfect cage is out there, i have seen the design of that one with the correct 3/4" spacing that is large like you want.

Advice: ~20 year old rescue or purchase baby from breeder
murfchck replied to DogsBirdsFish's topic in The GREY Lounge
It is reversed in our home. Gabby is active where Bongo is content to just chill. My poor husband can't even go the the bathroom alone any more. Gabby flies to the door and knocks on it, if he doesn't answer her quick enough she starts with the questioning "hello?". It is really a site to see, she has been doing this for months but it never fails to make me laugh! If he goes into another room in the house he will say "road trip" and Gabby flies to his shoulder and goes with him. Bongo mostly flies to me when i am cleaning the bowls for their dinner, he is a foodie. That one lives for dinner and breakfast. I have tried teaching him "yummm" or "mmmm" when the bowls go in the cages but he insists one the hearty exasperation "wsssshhh" sound, like its about time lady, i was about to die! -
Happy happy joy joy! What wonderful news!

Lol, i remember the first molt here. I came home and it looked like i was going to find a bird eaten by a cat or dog, i came straight to this website for peace of mind! It sounds silly but i have kept every feather these guys have lost, cept the ones that got pooped on. They get put in a vase and it really is a great decor, white, blue, gold, grey and red. Now all 5 seem to be shedding their winter fluff getting ready for summer! Emma is a beautiful name choice, and she is training you well. Keep updating us, i love reading the progress! -
I just have a scale from Target that weighs in grams.
