  1. I have both the plastic dog carrier for short trips and the larger wired ones for longer trips. When we first got Bongo i wanted the best for him and at that time it was the acrylic carries, hated it! Now i know for the most part it is just getting them from point a to point b and the money saved lets me get them little extra toys! Lol
  2. I am sorry you lost your little Petrie. There are many breeders around, where are you located?
  3. Those are great pictures! Both are beautiful!
  4. I tried responding a few times yesterday but couldn't put in writing what was in my head. Judy said it best for me! Your little girl is so young, and what or how she is taught now will affect her the rest of her life. These guys are not for the faint of heart and nothing like the typical dog or cat so you all as a family should do some reading to learn and understand them. There are many great threads on here to help you and your family give her the best life, she deserves it!
  5. You are in my prayers. Don't give up!
  6. I am torn on this one. Lol, but i guess that how we got 5 within a year and a half and found homes for 3 others. Depending on the new birds personality and baggage, he may just want to sit back and watch for a while and the interation between you and Kizzy could help get him over the hump. My Bongo was the first and thats been over a year ago, he is just starting to open up some. We do give some of the credit for this to Gabby, who is daddys girl. Bongo has watched those two interact and has been trying things they do out on me, it is quite interesting to be apart of. Now all of that being said, my flock are all over the age of 6, none are babies and i have never had a baby grey so i don't know what advise to give other than follow your heart and know your limitations! Best of luck with your decision!
  7. You have been very missed here and are such a wonderful person! Your heart is huge!
  8. I would guess he will tell you his name soon! Gabby still calls my hubby (Pat) Howard. It makes me laugh every time we hear it so needless to say, i call him Howard sometimes too! Once he starts talking, you may learn alot about him and his life before.
  9. Gus has been doing sooo good! However, he decided yesterday to check out the macaws and flew onto Bubbas stand. Again, i wasn't home. (we were enjoying couch time but i ended up on Gabbys couch and she was hell bent on getting me off of it. I got my last butt bite from her and just went to the farmers market to poke around.) Anyway, Gus took a flight around the living room and landed on Bubbas stand and Pat said they just beaked a little bit then Gus flew off. I am suprised, Bubba is the one always yelling at Gus telling him to stop it and telling him shut up or just screaming back at him. I thought for sure if they should ever encounter each other there would be feather loss but nope.
  10. I got the off brand that is pretty much flooding our area in the pet stores. They are impossible to work with all the clips and goodness if you unclip them before really knowing whats hook up to what you end up with a strap of clips and eyes that make no sense! It is my understanding the Aviator doesn't have all that. I have not gotten them yet, but i will be soon! I was shocked that the bird fairs didn't have any, there was one vendor who sold the ones we had already bought. Yuck!
  11. Well he hasn't yet but has now decided to hate me a little. Lol spent hours on the couch with him Saturday, wouldn't let me pet him but he wouldn't stop kissing me or stop laughing at my chihuahua who couldn't jump high enough to get on the couch with us. Yesterday, he just bit me while we were on the couch, lol. He wouldn't even fly to me to help with dinner which is something he does everyday. Ah, those moods, it is like he became a teenager overnight!
  12. Okay, i just love the one of Talon in the cabinet, Tee and the shrimp and Spock "helping" with the groceries! I would keep hitting the thanks button if i could on them!
  13. After saying "step up" almost a year and a half ago on the day he came home, and then nothing since... BONGO SPOKE!! He said his name twice. I, of course, missed it and hubby was almost afraid to tell me.
  14. After being attacked by a lemur and almost losing my finger just last Saturday, i vowed to hate all monkeys! Gotta say, i found it hard not to laugh at that!
  15. And another great past time, the making of dribble cups ( or cans ).She doesn't drink it, just likes to make the little holes in the can to keep the hubby on his toes wondering if he really drank so much that he can't make it in his mouth anymore! This time she didn't wait for him to set the can down and we got her in the act!
  16. Here is one of my favs! You can see the thoughts running thru their minds!
  17. Gus is opening the others cage doors now also, but just the food doors. He tosses his food out of his cage but enjoys the food in the others! Gesh! Here is Gabby, she is into everything. However getting the photo is a trick as she will attack anything electronic, i have lost many layers of skin trying!
  18. Welcome and thank you for all you are doing for this guy! He is very lucky to have found you!
  19. All still progressing right along. He has picked up on a habit of not stepping up when we try and bring him out after work, one foot only, if you give up and walk away, he starts screaming. I thought it was just me since i have one hand in a splint and the hand i can use is the left one that isn't as co ordinated as the right but nope, he is doing it to Pat too! The broom thing has been doing good keeping him from flying at us, but i need to find something else, first i hate the idea of scaring him into doing what we need. Second if you have a parrot, you need to sweep, and all the time it seems, and if he is afraid of the broom those two things just don't go together. Oliver funny... I had him on my forearm bringing him to his stand and he slipped trying look at the pretty bird in the mirror, of course he grabbed ahold of my bad finger and left a good dent in the splint but i guess the texture freaked him out. He let go and then just stared at it. That was hubbys bigest fear, a parrot grabbing the finger and causing even more damage. Now its my fear too! I am a slow learner. :-)
  20. I am so sorry for your loss. My heart is with you.
  21. I am not supposed to talk about this in fear of jinxing it but... He has been doing so good. Last night at dinner time we put him in the cage like the others and he was quiet and ate. We were able to finish cooking our dinner and eat without the screaming! He has also gotten better with the screaming during the day time, he is starting to entertain himself some! Like right now, i went and woke them up to start their day. He is in there playing, not his usual screaming for me to get him out! Sunday morning, he was so cute. When i woke them up it took me a little longer to get their breakfast, i had to wake Pat up to hear him. He was just talking away, "mama, Pat, hello, pick me up" over and over in that order. How could i deny that? Out he came! He also now fully understands the harness and what it means. No matter what he is doing, if the harness comes out, he assumes the position! He is growing up by leaps and bounds!
  22. Bongo cracks me up! If he ever slips up and shows me affection, i get the cold shoulder for days! We have a friend that Bongo just loves, he hasn't been to the house though for a few months but came by last week. Bongo got on his shoulder and just played. I had walked by and Bongo lowered his head to me, rubbed on my face with his then gave me a big kiss with sound! Now he won't come near me and lightly nips me every chance he gets. Its like he realized, crap, i showed her i can be sweet now i gotta change that!
  23. I just love seeing them fly, except for Gus when he flys AT us. Lol. The funnest thing is when non bird people are over and the birds fly to us from just a whistle, the look of awe on their face is priceless! Saturday, a friend stopped by to talk with Pat, all the birds were out and quiet, he didn't even notice them. Gus took flight and went around the living room, then down the hallway to his cage where he played quietly. ( this was the first time he has ever done this, we were so proud and the guy that was here was like, why are you guys so excited, isn't he supposed to do that? If he only knew of our challanges with Guster! )
