  1. Oh gosh, your story brought tears to my eyes. It made me think of my 2 kitties that I rescued. I went to this place that someone had emailed me about, they said there were little kittens outside, and their mother had been hit by a car. I went to this place, it was my daughter's 7th birthday, and she went with me. I got out of my car and walked up to this abandoned house....out came a little white kitten. I picked him up and petted him. I then headed back to my car, and out came this TINY kitten. She was meowing and following me to my car. I picked her up and set her back on the porch (I knew my husband would kill me if I brought home 2, and I knew other people were coming to rescue as well) but she followed me again, crying the whole way. Finally I picked her up and took her home. They were both HIGHLY malnourished, and next to dead. I nursed these kittens back to health. I got up every 2 hours at night to feed them and check on them while also getting up with my infant daughter at night to feed her....I got no sleep, but it was worth every sleepless night. They are now healthy, happy cats, and I couldn't imagine life without them. My little female cat still follows me everywhere. She even waits outside the bathroom door meowing for me when I go to the bathroom. She sleeps on my butt every night. She is still small, and according to the vet she always will be. We think it is from her being so bad off when I got her. I mean, she fit in the palm of my hand when I got her. They are such good cats, and I love them very much. I attached some pics of my cats when they were kittens, and them now. The pics were taken after they had a major bath....they were FILTHY when I brought them home. It is so nice to hear that the little kitten you found was loved when it passed, and I know it knew the difference. It was warm, fed, and loved....the way all of God's creatures should be.
  2. You are very right, there are some very nice cages out there. I have been looking around a bit more, and have found several that I am considering. I have been scouring the forums looking for any threads on cages, just to read up on reviews by people that actually own them. I have definitely made some progress. I appreciate everyone's advice, and am so glad I asked! Otherwise I would have bought a corner cage and more than likely not been happy with it in the end. I will let everyone know when I make my decision. Thanks again everyone

    String

Hey Brendon, and welcome to the forum. This is a great question! There is a great website that other members of the forum turned me onto that has great, safe bird toy products that you can make your own toys from. I have inserted the link to what I ordered, and I love it. A lot of people really like the sisal rope, and a lot of people use it on stands and play gyms that they have made. This website has sisal, and bird safe leather, as well as the rope that I use. Sometimes it helps to order from a website that is dedicated specifically to birds, this way we can assume it is a bird safe product. I feel better doing this, as opposed to going to the craft store myself. http://www.mysafebirdstore.com/product.cgi?group=9302&product=9303

    Five Facts

So the purpose of this game is to state 5 facts about yourself that others here may not already know. They can be anything at all, feel free to elaborate on them as well. I will start: 1. I am 29, but I feel younger. 2. I love music, and more than anything I listen to electronic music. Mostly Dubstep, and Drum and Bass. 3. My favorite thing to watch is Anime. Anything by Hayao Miyazaki, and I love Full Metal Alchemist, Inuyasha, Bleach, and Soul Eater to name a few shows. 4. I love to watch Adult Swim at night 5. I collect anything Hello Kitty, or Tim Burton (especially The Nightmare Before Christmas) and have a LARGE collection.
  5. Trying to get over an AWFUL cold that has had me down for 3 days now!
  6. You are so incredibly right. Thank you for your kind words.
  7. Thank you so much He will be with me in 36 hours everyone. I cannot wait to start my relationship with him!
  8. Thank you Talon, I had never even thought about that! That definitely takes away a lot of the appeal of a corner cage now. I really like the way they look, but the whole point of shopping around for a cage is to get something that would be good for my fid, not what looks good in my living room. After reading all of your reviews, I am really leaning against getting a corner cage.
  9. In total I payed $1150 for Grimm, and that includes his DNA testing, health check, health certificate, and getting him shipped to me. Such a small price to pay for a sweet baby that will be with me for my entire life.
  10. HAHAHAHA! That is just EPIC! I had an instance the other day that made me think of this. I had my rescue Teil out the other day, and he was sitting on my lap getting scritches, and LOVING IT...on the other side of the room my hubby was sitting with my Quaker Kiwi. Anyone that has had a Quaker, or knows anything about them, knows where this story is going. Anyhow, Kiwi made her way all the way across the room, walked across my bed, went down to the floor, walked over to me, and just started fighting with the Tiel! I had to separate them from one another! She is one jealous little girl!
  11. Awww....I hope you get some chicks, but if not, this has been a great learning experience for you I am sure, and yo will be even more prepared the next time! Good luck!

    Ring on leg

Birdhouse hit the nail on the head here....there really is no easy answer to this question. Even as I wrote my last post, half way through I began to think about the fact that there really is NO FOOL PROOF WAY to protect our babies. We really have to make the choice for ourselves, and do what we feel is right. For me, leaving them banded makes me feel much better, as opposed to not. At least this way, if they were to get out, I can hope and pray that an honest person who loves birds as much as we do would find him/her, and do everything to return my bird to me. If I have the band numbers, it makes that process so much easier.
  13. I loved this update She sounds like an absolute sweetheart, and I am looking forward to the photos. Also, can't thank you enough for the "Not to do list" LOL! I will avoid the above mentioned blunders when my little guy gets home. It certainly does sound like she is seeing you as her flock member, especially with her doing the contact calls. I love when my birds do that. It's nice to know they are thinking about you, even when you are out of sight. I don't think it will be long before you are getting to scritch, and pet her to your hearts content. Congrats!
  14. Awww! Welcome Bella! I see Dr. Scott McDonald also when he comes to my area. He is fantastic isn't he!
  15. That is my question.... I am looking around for a new cage, and I have seen some popularity with the corner cages. I really like them, but my concern is...is it always easy to find a place for one? We will be moving towards the end of 2012, and I am afraid that once we move, I may not be able to find a good place for it, and will be looking at floor plans to specifically accommodate this corner cage! I would love to hear from members that have corner cages, and from those who don't and why. Why did you choose one, or why didn't you? Is it easy to find a place for it no matter what? I know this may sound like a stupid question, but I have a lot of furniture, and don't want to spend 800 on a cage that I wont be able to use!
  16. Thank you to you both. I bought a frame, and printed a good pic of Isis out for my hubby. Now it is in our living room, and she will continue to be our marriage mascot.
  17. I loved your pics! I was curious if you may know off of the top of your head, but what are the dimensions of the cage with the playtop (where your AG is perched). I have a cage that looks very similar, and I am trying to decide if I want to use it, or buy a new one. You would be a tremendous help to me. Thank you!
  18. Glad to hear everything worked out for you! I guess you just have to be assertive with these little ones every now and again!
  19. I know! I am lovin' that little red butt! Thanks for following along Barbara!
  20. Thank you!! He is getting so big. I like that Chickie is just a bit older than him, this way it kind of gives me an idea of what to expect out of him LOL

    Ring on leg

I leave my birds banded, and have never had a problem. It just gives me piece of mind to know if I ever had an escapee, that I would be able to identify him by his band numbers, and they would know the bird was mine, no questions asked. I have read too many stories about people finding lost birds, and not wanting to give them back to their claimed owners because there was no means of identification. If you think you would like to remove the band, definitely have a microchip put in. The only thing with a chip is you have to rely on the people that found your bird to take the bird to the vet's office to be identified. I have heard of people not taking the bird in, and just keeping the bird and claiming "no means to identify". Even with the band, it is not a fool proof means of identification, as it can be removed by anyone. I guess we just have to hope for the best, and be very careful not to lose our little friends. Whatever choice you make is entirely up to you. We are all different, and the way we raise our fids will be different as well. Just trust your own judgment, and do what you think is right for your baby.
  22. Hey everyone! I just got my latest update on Grimm, and he has now started perching, and eating veggies and fruit. Apparently, he LOVES sweet potatoes, and will gobble them up. He has started playing with toys, and loves to play. Lea said that he loves to be talked to, and will look up at you with the most heart warming eyes! So, here he is, 7 weeks old, Grimm:
  23. Thank you everyone. We have buried Isis outside under our Weeping Willow tree. She will be missed, that is for sure. And you are all right. No matter the size, color, ect. these little animals have a way of finding a special place in our hearts. Thank you for being there for me in my time of need everyone. It is greatly appreciated.
