You are a proud papa, and you should be! I LOVE picture two and five the best.... complete trust with picture number five. No eye pinning. I am beautiful, and I KNOW it! LOL! Nancy

Sophie is doing great! She came around... Sunday late afternoon. Now everything is " Rom ( mom) this, Rom that!" Chewing my ear off, hanging with Ollie once again. I took Monday off for good measure, to be here for her.We had a fun day. Nancy

Korra is biting very hard! Any advice please?
kins2321@yahoo.com replied to Devin Corso's topic in Training
They DO make you pay! LOL! Sophie doesn't punish us anymore, whether we go on vacation, or off to college. She just gets sad and quiet. We know what to expect, other college kid that is away all year, steps in, pays more attention.Babysitter for the week I am on vacation in October, pays a ton of attention during the week I am gone. she does quite well. An hour? what the heck? I don't get an hour! I want an hour! LOL! Nancy

She gave him a fantastic send off! She knew! We packed his car, and he spent his last half hour with her. Lots of snuggles and head scratches. She returned to her cage and hasn't come out. Ryan skyped with her, which made her happy, but she doesn't want to be with me and ollie. I know she is depressed.I'm just giving her space, but going in her room to tell her I am here if she needs me.She is such a non stop chatterbox, but has been very quiet after he left. I know she is struggling with her emotions. This morning, she climbed into bed with me at 7 am. We snuggled for the next 90 minutes.I don't know how she knew, but she did. We comforted each other. Sophie will only eat Zupreems. Doesn't mean your bird won't eat something else. She relys on bird food less and less as she eats more people food. Don't get me wrong, Sophie has a healthy diet of seed mix, but also now eats a well balanced diet of protein, fresh veggies. Fruits are now minimal. When I think of my cholesterol... I think of Sophie. She has always eaten dinner with us.. so she just eats a healthy human diet. Nancy

While many know our family dynamics, countdown for Sean leaving for his last year at college begins in 12 hours. Sophie is gonna be pissed! Now that I started my new job in pediatrics, I had my new boss set my hours last week. Sophie will see me more and I will be around for her meltdown. I think for once, I will be there for her in time of need! Nancy

You are doing GREAT! Being patient and encouraging to come out KUDOS! It takes a long time. Keep at it. Make it exciting and interesting just to get him on the door. Books, board games in front of cage with other friends while ignoring him....he has so much potential from what I've read. Welcome! Nancy and Sophie

Time flies and so does Inara -- (warning, long update)
kins2321@yahoo.com replied to Inara's topic in The GREY Lounge
What a great update of you, Inara and Joe!You are now entering the TRUE honeymoon stage, and it only gets better and better! I am so happy you are feeling better too. Its amazing how humans and birds can empathize when someone is sick, and find a common cause to bond. Good for Joe. Nancy and Sophie -
THAT looks awesome Dave,,, Our refrigerator died ( two years old, stainless steel Kenmore). I am not so happy. Guy coming to fix it on Monday. Meanwhile, we are living out of a cooler! How the heck did we survive in the olden days? I had a 40 count bag of jumbo shrimp in freezer as well as ribs, sirloin roast. Thank GOD for my 90 year old neighbor whom lives across the street. I'm on vacation this week and have gotten to know the family. She put all my meat and shrimp in her freezer in basement. I'm making chili honey garlic shrimp as soon as my refrig is up and running. I'm sure Sophie will love it! Nancy

They've got the love! Coming from an owner of three different species that had three different cages, but would hang together in one, I recognize " respect, trust and a hint of love", when I see it. You may need to be there when " emotional fights breakout", but you are well on your way for them to have a very good relationship. Nancy

Happy hatch day! Nancy. Sophie and Ollie

I remember the days when I just got Sophie. I wanted the BEST for her. Had a great groomer and trimmer that was very important to me! ( He still is!) He helped me plan her diet. As she got older and older, her diet became more focused on, what we ate. She still had pellets, freezedryed veggies and fruits ( more focus on veggies), but we had gotten past the fresh veggies and fruits thrown against the walls! Sophie was a very difficult bird to feed! Now that I include her on my " meal plans", mostly grilled, she gets very excited , when I am excited! I grill... she tries it... and usually she compliments! Nancy

Beautiful home you have provided! Ziggy absolutely adores Maalik from the picture. Kudos to you and your gang. Nancy

And yet another keyboard destroyed
kins2321@yahoo.com replied to Echo's Mom's topic in Photography & Video Room
You gotta admit... if WE were birds... thats the first thing I would destroy! LOL Now Sophie is fascinated with the tub ( the bird who hates water, and is forced to shower monthly). She is rethinking her sleeping arrangements, and has her eye on the tub. I nixed it, told her that was a " NO GO"... she was annoyed with me. Sophie is sixteen, and its time for her to settle, but she never does. Nancy -
Greywings... Good info! I wouldn't be particular, in who took care of Sophie, as long as they new what they were doing. Nancy

For those babies that don't want to go to bed... simple and easy.... " step down", in front of their cage on floor. They WILL climb up,,, then read a book ( short story... Sophie's favorite, Thomas the tank engine). I've been reading the same short story for many years. I can read it by heart, but she notices when I turn the page! If I don't turn the page at the right time... she knows... and squaks her disapproval! You can't trick them! LOL! Nancy

Most people, would think we are all CRAZY for adjusting our lives and work schedules for our birds! THATS what I love about this site. You all understand. Our greys are forever two, or four. Sophie is more four. ( Thank you God!) My new job should be up and running by October. No holidays, no evening and no weekends or call.Sophie is gonna BEG me to go back to work! She is going to get tired of seeing me! LOL I can't WAIT! Sophie time... will be back. Nancy

And yet another keyboard destroyed
kins2321@yahoo.com replied to Echo's Mom's topic in Photography & Video Room
I am with Sterling ST... no proof! LOL! Checkout my closet for all the chewed off keys! Now with my new laptop, that kids insisted on, I just close it! I am sure Sophie is not happy. Nancy -
I took a new job so I can be home more with my animals. ( mainly Sophie!) Of course with any new job, it takes a few months to " iron out the wrinkles," get new staff up and running, so I am at work a TON more! POOR SOPHIE! Sean is spending alot of time with her but I only have him home a few more weeks before school starts. Today Sophie and I were snuggling in the kitchen, Sean came down to talk. I put her on the countertop to start dinner. Once I got dinner going I asked her to " step up", which of course she did. I then asked Sean to ask her to " step up", which he did. ( I wanted to stir dinner). She gave him one foot, left the other on me! LOL ( Family snuggle time!) I needed to " stop and smell the roses". A good reminder by my girl! Nancy

Zoe looks great! Are you using those techniques to teach step up and step down? Nancy

Marriage Separation- What to Expect
kins2321@yahoo.com replied to paleale's topic in The GREY Lounge
Talon loves her mama! Sophie wouldn't know what to do if someone bullied her. It would be a first for her... she came into an animal kingdom with two pups, a rescue conure, and a baby Amazon. Now its just her and Ollie my dog. They love each other. Ollie is getting old, so I am not sure what to do. I would LOVE another puppy, but it would be alot of training and I work alot more without the kids here to teach. I wouldn't worry about Sophie loving the pup, but the opposite. Sophie loves every animal that enters our house and trusts them in ten seconds or less. Nancy
