  1. Chickie has been saying "hi" for a few weeks now and she was 6 months old on the 17th. She mumbles other things, but her "hi" is quite clear and usually apropriately timed.
  2. I have taken Chickie to Petsmart a few times in her travel cage, to try and help socialize her. She gets TONS of attention and it gets her used to seeing all kinds of things. Maybe a few shorter trips, as others suggested, would be good to get her used to it. I think the others have given you great advice and I'm sure you'll work things out for you and Gracie.
  3. Sorry for all the complications. It's a shame that there a vets out there like that.
  4. Well hello stranger!! Glad you're back. I'm so glad you have your little man home now!! How exciting! How's Barnaby doing?
  5. I think it definitely helps you guys to bond. He is such a little cutie! I would stay with my little Chickie for hours at a time, so I totally understand.
  6. Your pics make me so anxious for it to be spring here so I can take my little one out in her harness! Thanks so much for sharing. Your pics are always so beautiful.
  7. Interesting fact! I wonder what the different percentages of parrot types are?
  8. Thanks guys! I wouldn't say that she loves it yet...it's probably more she tolerates it cause mommy says she has to do it...lol. Hopefully the more we do it the better she will get about it.
  9. I got some pics of little Miss Chickie the other day after her bath, and I just had to share them. I give her a bath every other day, so she's getting pretty good about it. I put her in the kitchen sink and spray her down until she's soaking wet and then wrap her in a towel to help her dry. I'm hoping that wrapping her in a towel after the bath will make it less traumatic when she has to be toweled at the vet, etc. Also, it serves a very selfish purpose because she is super sweet and cuddly after a bath, so I get lots of quality time in while I can. She will usually put up with it for about 5 min, and then she's ready to move on...lol. She will be 6 months old on the 17th and it feels like only yesterday I brought her home. The last one is definitely my favorite. http://i354.photobucket.com/albums/r438/reliles/WP_000215.jpg http://i354.photobucket.com/albums/r438/reliles/WP_000213.jpg http://i354.photobucket.com/albums/r438/reliles/WP_000220.jpg http://i354.photobucket.com/albums/r438/reliles/WP_000217.jpg http://i354.photobucket.com/albums/r438/reliles/WP_000218.jpg http://i354.photobucket.com/albums/r438/reliles/WP_000219.jpg
  10. I was at my breeders house getting Chickie's wings clipped one time and I picked up a baby Caique that she had because I thought she was just the cutest little thing. Chickie INSTANTLY flew off her basked and flew at the Caique and tried to knock it off my hand-twice! She was definitely letting me know that it was not ok for me to be holding another bird.
  11. The wait is the worst part, but it only gets better once they're home.
  12. Those are really great toys!! Nice job!
  13. Chickie needs: 1) Buttons sewn onto fleece (hands down her favorite toy) 2) cheez-its (her fave snack when we're having some) 3) a sandy perch to sleep on 4) phone book to shred 5) and, last, but not least, her mommy!!
  14. You guys won't regret getting it. If one emergency happens then the policy pays for itself. All my animals are covered with VPI and it's totally worth it.
  15. Don't be so hard on yourself Malikah. Everyone makes the best decision for themselves and how they live their life. I'm sure you weighed all the options and chose what worked best for you and your fids.
  16. I love the ones pf him hanging upside down-he looks like a little grey bat.
  17. Poor Oliver. Bless you for taking that sweet guy in. I'm sure he'll turn a corner now that he's with you.
  18. Unfortunately it's kinda a normal reaction for them. Whenever my Chickie would want to chomp on my fingers my breeder would say that I needed to give her a toy to redirect it. They naturally love to chew, so if he starts chewing on something you don't want him to then I found it's just easiest to give them something that it is ok to chew on instead. Chickie is 6 months old this month and she doesn't really want to chomp on my fingers anymore, but she will often check out my fingers with her beak. This doesn't hurt and I allow her to do that because she, in this case, is using her beak like another "hand." She will however still chomp on my cell phone if I get it too close and I have heard from many on here that their bird's favorite past time includes popping off keyboard letters on laptops and computers. So...basically the hand chompyness will pass, just redirect it to an appropriate toy, and you may always have to watch your cell phone around him. Hope that helps.
