  1. I so hope you can get one of Georgia's birds...but then again I am biased . Keep us posted.
  2. Chickie will definitely be microchipped soon, just like all our other animals are.
  3. Thanks aerial the pic is from her first time outside with her aviator...had to get the pink . I took her to petsmart the other day and she did pretty well. The only thing that really freaked her out was a school bus that drove by. She tried to fly off and the aviator did it's job by keeping her next to me.
  4. Congratulations!!! Your life changed forever today
  5. Personality will be the same-that being said we all know they all hav their own quirks . The red factor feathers may stay, or they might be replace with normal grey feathers after the first molt. They're pretty, so I hope they stay.
  6. Roudybush and Harrison's are some popular and good brands. Have heard that Roudybush can be hard to get depending on where you live, though. Maybe ask your breeder what they think is best and check any animal/bird stores in your area to see what's available.
  7. I agree with KimJean. I'm no expert since I watched from the sidelines as my breeder expertly raised my baby, but when Chickie was still little, before she could perch, my breeder recommended that I sit in a chair with a towel over my lap and hold her in my lap. She would offer get nervous and I would just cuddle her close or cover her with the towel, as coached by my breeder to do, and that would help her calm down. I dont remember what age she started perching at, but even then I was taught to offer my whole hand flattened out and perpendicular to the ground, if that makes sense, because it would look like a more stable base to Chickie. We still pick her up this way when we ask her to step up. Hopefully someone with more experience in raising greys will have more info.
  8. Pellets should always be available, 24 hours a day. I check Chickie's bowl everyday and add to it or dump and refresh as needed. Also, with your baby biting on your fingers, she's not doing something negative that she should be punished for-since she's not trying to bite. Greys are just natural chewers, so when she wants to chew on your finger the best thing to do is to redirect her to something appropriate to chew on. Give her a foot toy or something that she can hold and chew. It's not something she can help. As she gets older and does try to bite then this would be the appropriate time for time outs, etc.
  9. I got mine off of eBay. We use it to stick to the shower wall or sometimes we put her in the window on a nice day. I just searched for bird shower perch and found exactly what I was looking for.
  10. Hopefully someone else with more experience than me will respond, but I don't think the possible difficulties of rehoming a grey lie in the age but in the birds past experiences or "baggage" that it comes with. That being said, since you know the people and the bird is only 1 it would probably be an easier rehome than an older bird from a family you didn't know. As far as splitting the two up, I guess that would depend on how much they like each other now. I have heard that Greys are very happy as only birds, but, then again, many cooexist happily with other birds too. My Chickie is an only bird, and seems quite content.
  11. Yep...he's yawning. Isn't it the cutest thig ever?
  12. It's definitely a decision that you have to make while considering your lifestyle, house setup, etc. It's really a personal decision of what's best for you and your fid. Some people here clip, and others don't. It's a hot topic, but, at the end of the day, I've found everyone here to be supportive when a person is making the best and safest decision for their fids. My Chickie is trimmed for now. We brought her home fully flighted and she was quite the excellent flyer. She flew all over the house and I was ok with that at first. I began to worry when she would fly to the light that hung over our stairwell and we would have to nearly kill ourselves to get her down. Also, she figured out fairly quickly that we went in and out of the doors and that she wanted to follow us. That really worried me. I didn't want to clip her, but I wanted to keep her safe. My breeder and I decided that we would slowly clip her and stop once we found the right balance. She did a baby trim at first and that didn't slow my Chickie down at all. We then progressed from there to where we are now-she has 6 feathers trimmed on both sides and that impairs her flight enough to keep her in the same room with us. She can go across the room if something spooks her or if she wants to come to us,etc. She also cannot get high enough to get herself into some of the very precarious situations she got herself into before. Like I said, it's a personal decision, but this is what works for us, for now. I would like her to be fully flighted one day, but not for now.
  13. Video video!! For us non zon owners.
  14. My guess is that she's happy when she makes that noise...but it's just a guess. Hopefully someone will have more thoughts. :-)
  15. It's never too early to start getting them comfortable with something new. You just want to be sure not to rush them accepting it. Work at their pace and it should be fine.
  16. Chickie didn't have any problems adjusting to her new home, but every bird is different. I kept her on the same pellets he breeder weaned her onto and she did just fine.
  17. Welcome to the forum!!! Everyone has given you great advice
  18. It sounds like it's definitely her "practicing" talking. The only word that Chickie says clearly is "hi," but she has many other things that I think I hear her say in mumbles. If I ask her "what did you say?" I get the same response you do...whistles and chirps. It's so fun to even just hear them mumble though, isn't it??
  19. Welcome to the forum and kudos to you for doing your research before bringing one of these wonderful little guys into your life.
  20. On eBay I use "A Bird Toy" and everything I have gotten from there has been great! Really nice toys.
