  1. I lost my first grey baby-buttons-to PVD when he was only 3 mos old. I was devastated. I'm so very sorry for your loss.
  2. DEFINITELY on the right track to a happy grey!!
  3. I don't know anything more than you've already done, but I'm sure other members that have more experience with plucking will have good suggestions. Sounds like you're making slow and steady progress.
  4. Keeping Twix in my thoughts.
  5. Thank you for your service and welcome to the forum! You're in the right place to learn tons and get lots of help and support.
  6. Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your baby! Diablo is a cutie!!
  7. Surely it's not humane to allow her to continue breeding...could she be reported? I am so sorry to hear about his diagnosis. I lost the first grey baby I picked to PVD. Even though I had just begun to bond with him, it was devastating. Oliver is a fighter though, and he has you so hopefully he can make it through. I'll be keeping him in my thoughts.
  8. I agree with Talon. He is where he is meant to be...most especially after all the time it has taken to build your bond with him.
  9. Congrats on bringing baby home soon!! It is a big day so all the questions you need to. I would suggest feeding your baby whatever your breeder weaned him onto. My Chickie was weaned onto pellets, Roudybush, so that's what she's eaten since the day she came home. I think it's best to vary your grey's diet but you don't have to worry about being regimented about it. Chickie may go a week where she only gets her pellets and then I'll make her something special. I read somewhere that pellets should be 80% of their diet, so don't stress about that part too much. As far as Teflon goes, I think it's only a concern if it's overheated. It's good that you got rid of your pots/pans, but I think coffeemakers, etc. are ok. As long as you never use the hairdryer on your grey it should be fine too. You'll have to let us know how the big day goes. I thought I might burst waiting to bring my Chickie home. It's such an exciting day!!
  10. It's ok if they don't get it...we do
  11. Noodle is such an adoreable name! Welcome to the forum!!
  12. Oliver is so lucky that you found him. I'll keep you guys in my thoughts.
  13. What a sweet little guy!!
  14. I got my tree from Manzanita Habitats on eBay and it's really nice.
  15. Good morning Sophie and welcome to the forum! There are many people here that have rehomed birds, so I know you're in the right place to get lots of help. I think you're doing the right thing by not reacting to her plucking since you don't want to reinforce the habit with any attention at all. She's probably just a little stressed from the changes in her life, but a visit to the vet to rule out any physiological causes might be a good idea. We're glad you joined!!
  16. Thanks guys! I just got her shower perch in, so I've started showering her in the "big kid" (lol) shower with us. So far it's working out ok and she doesn't seem to mind it too much. She gets a little mad at mom sometimes during baths, but I tell her that we all have to bathe...lol
  17. Ha ha ha! Thanks JeffNok! She has mastered the "hi," but prefers her first language of whistles and chirps most of the time. We make it a game where we try to copy the noises she makes and it's really funny to do because she will keep upping the difficulty until we can't replicate the noise she just made. Whenever she "wins" because we can't copy her, you can tell that she's all proud of herself. Lol. I felt the same way you did about hoping she would talk, and, don't get me wrong, it's neat that she does, but I'm already so in love with her that it doesn't matter to me either way anymore.
  18. Poor thing. I have no concept of how difficult a rehomed grey can be, but I'm sure that you and Gilbert will work it out with time and love.
  19. Congrats JeffNok!!! It sounds like things went really well. Maybe Gracie was giving the test she pooped on a C??? I think that things are sometimes better when impulsive because the less you worry about it, the less she will worry about it.
