  1. I'm new to greys, but, from what I have learned here on the forum, it is very important to provide the correct type of lighting. I don't have it set up yet for my Chickie, but I will. Hopefully someone with more knowledge will comment and be able to give you more info. Also, I believe there are threads that discuss what type of lighting to use...I just don't remember where they are.
  2. Welcome Clarhe and Bob!! (I love that name, I think it's too cute!) You're in the right place for questions, support, or whatever help you might need.
  3. It's not your imagination, and YAY for the good news!! I'm so glad to hear that things are getting better and better! Chickie and I have a very similar ritual. Our contact call is the whistle that you would use if you were calling your dogs or trying to get someone's attention. It cracks me up when she does it because she is literally telling me to "come here." The very first time that I realized that she was calling for me I felt so special. My breeder told me to always answer her contact calls so she knows where I am. Kinda unrelated-One night I came home from work and was exhausted and as soon as I came up the steps she let out a big whistle-but this one was when you whistle at someone/thing that's pretty-and I almost fell down laughing. She totally cracks me up.
  4. I'll be sure to tell her that...she thinks she's pretty funny too.
  5. Wow...that's the neatest thing. Will have to try out this new little Jedi mind trick on Miss Chickie and see what happens.
  6. Fluffed means happy-as long as there are no signs of illness. So, she sounds like a happy little baby to me What a cutie!
  7. I seriously think Chickie holds her morning bomb sometimes just so she can do it in my hand on the way from her cage to her tree...oh, and then she laughs about it. She chuckles after she poops...go figure. lol
  8. Seriously!?! Wow...I will have to try it I guess. How did you figure that out???
  9. If only my Chickie enjoyed her baths as much as Slater does!! He is too funny, and your bird room looks incredible. He is so lucky!!
  10. Ha ha ha...love it!! I didn't even know this place existed, but now I wanna go!!!
  11. BWAHAHAHAHA...too funny and cute. I sure hope my Chickie is a talker, but even if she's not I already love her to death.
  12. Welcome!! This forum is a great place and with lots of helpful people!
  13. Sounds like you guys have made positive progress. I totally understand her being nippy as Chickie seems to be in a similar stage. She is much more willing to attempt a nip or bite than she was 2 weeks ago. I attribute it to her coming into her own and realizing that she might have a different opinion about things than I do. There are different schools of thought on this, but when Chickie becomes nippy or rude I sternly tell her "no" or "no bite" and then give her a second chance. If she continues the behavior then she goes in her cage for 10-15 min. After that I go get her and start fresh. Also, we have found that her behavior is very linked to how high she is. Her tree puts her at eye level with us and sometimes when she's being "bratty," as I call it, all it takes to straighten her out is to simply move her lower in her tree. She climbs back up to the top, but the act of us lowering her even only a few inches causes a 180 attitude adjustment. Hopefully others that are more experienced than me will have some good advice too, but it seems that our girls are quite similar so hopefully I've helped some.
  14. Welcome to the forum and congrats on getting Spartan!! . My baby is 5 months old and it sounds like to me that the noises that Spartan is making is totally normal. My Chickie "chats" it up all the time making all kinds of noises and mumbling in her soft girly voice. I was told that they mumble before they start talking because they're working on figuring out sounds, much like a human child. I think it's a very good sign that he's happy. Usually a bird being non-vocal is more of a cause for concern. Your little guy sounds like he's a normal happy baby to me!!
  15. Best of luck!! Let us know how it turns out!!
  16. Welcome, there's a wealth of information here and lots of knowledgeable members to help with questions. You're in the right place!
  17. What a difficult decision...I hope you can figure out what works best for her, and really glad to hear that she's doing ok.
