    Out of cage

He is so young. Will he step up when in his cage to allow you to remove him from the cage? Perhaps there is something outside the cage that has him spooked?

    Out of cage

"Grey time" often functions in slow motion. Two months may seem like forever, but it is actually not very long at all in "grey time". You haven't mentioned how old Scout is, but he likely needs more time to adjust to this new life you are offering him. I am sure you will get lots of advice here, but sitting beside the cage and talking softly or reading a book is the best way to build the initial trust your bird needs to want to come out. Also dropping treats in his bowl or offering him a treat each time you walk by can help establish trust. I have only had Shadow (CAG) for just over a year, but she has taught me volumes about patience and trust.... Both take time. Do you know what type of situation Scout was in before he came to you? Please feel free to share more info about Scout and how he came to live with you. I am sure it will help everyone as they try to offer advice. Hang in there..and don't take his reactions personally.
  3. Congrats on the news of your baby BOY! He is a pretty little bird.
  4. LOL....happened here too! These birds will definitely keep us on our toes.
  5. Yikes! The doggie door scares me a bit. We had to reinvent our dog door situation when the cats decided it could be a cat door too. Would this not be a potential problem for our fids as well? I had not even considered the risk of feral cats coming in!
  6. Even funnier when my non-bird friends see my cages and comment on the "heft" and joke about me keeping them locked up like fort knox......if only they knew!!
  7. LOVE IT! Did you lock down those food doors? We learned the hard way that Shadow could open the food doors too. Nothing a nice little spring clip couldn't fix.

    The winner is

Shadow my CAG can hang with the best of them, my Amazon although she eats well, hasn't seem to quite figure out that she is a hookbill and that the beak is meant for "digging in". Sami the Green cheek however, can probably out eat them all! She never stops.
  9. So glad he/she has settled in nicely. From what I understand, from my friend that was breeding ringnecks up until last year, you can't spoil them! Unlike our greys and amazons, that can get a little too attached and clingy, the ringnecks can never have enough! Looking forward to more stories and the dna results!
  10. I love this bird! Thank you so much for sharing that. Made be laugh out loud...he has such a great sense of humor. My grey is very stoic and generally takes herself very seriously. I am tickled to see that Biscotti is such a free spirit! You ride'em Biscotti bird!! Whoohoo
  11. It seems to be another addition to the ever growing list of how a parrot will change your life. They all seem to like the "swiss cheese" look, an integral part of the designed by parrot handiwork......swiss cheese shirts, towels, curtains, phone books, mail, important documents and the list goes on. Good luck with the distractions.
  12. Waiting for the laundry to finish so I can make my bed!
  13. I agree...eating like a bird is good for your health. Even if you are human!

    Rbst

I am constantly asking anyone who enters..."have you met my parrot??" LOL
  15. That's great! Our Greencheek enjoys the ramdom jaunt through the fridge too. CRAZY BIRDS! LOL
  16. So glad my cabinets go all the way to the top! The refrigerator is a whole other story.
  17. Couldn't resist sharing.... this years marching band show and matching t-shirt. I thought it was rather appropriate timing with our recent addition of Lola..the Panama Amazon. I will wear it with pride!

    Too Hot?

I would have been disappointed if I had gotten no response...that's for sure!

    Too Hot?

Wow....all I wanted to know was if anyone ever saw their bird react to hot peppers.
  20. I can't seem to find the FB group.
  21. Great work! Everything looks amazing. I will have to check out the FB page.
  22. I would have to agree. Shadow occasionally does the fire alarm screetch. She calls about 3-5 times. We all ignore her....no looking her way, no going to the kitchen for a drink...nothing. After her 3-5 calls, she resorts to a very endearing "hellooo" or an innocent, do you remember me "Hii" At that point I immediately respond with something like "hey Shadow...what would you like?" or or a simple "Hi" back. It is hard to remember that even the slightest response can be perceived as a reward. Good luck as Mav begins to test the waters! I know my days are numbered with my little Zon too. : )

    Too Hot?

It was good to see the clear scientific evidence, proof of what I had always believed was true. I just can't get past Lola's reaction. She is a very good eater and clearly responded to the insides of this pepper in a distinct way.

    Too Hot?

Thanks for the article. I think I will stick with mild peppers....Lola was obviously stressed by her experience with hot peppers and Shadow wouldn't touch them.
