  1. You might try http://www.LJOLeather.com I have purchased items from them at the show here locally. They are VERY nice people and seem to do a lot of research in selecting the products they are willing to sell. I had forgotten about them when you asked earlier. I hate buying online, so I have hesitated to order extra lengths of rope. They have cotton, manila and some sisal too. You might call them as I know they have more stuff than what is on the website. The man told me that himself. On a side note, my birds, the amazon and the grey seem to prefer a rope they can wrap their feet around, maybe provides a safe grip for acrobatics?? I was also looking for something extra thick, but now I am unsure about that. I might have the LJO guy bring me samples to the show this weekend...and I can report back. oops...I think that show is the 29th.
  2. Thanks for sharing these. It will be fun to watch him grow up!

    Too Hot?

Maggie...with those 400 tastebuds do you think some birds can feel the heat of the spice more or less than others? This pepper was raw and room temp. Are you saying that perhaps I should stay away from those spicey hot peppers...I know I wouldn't eat them! LOL

    Too Hot?

I have been afraid to even give them to her...not sure I want kisses after she has been messing with those things! LOL...we don't eat any spicy food around here. I guess maybe Lola won't mind.

    Too Hot?

I know I have heard time and again that birds can't feel the heat of hot peppers, thus making the squirrel proof bird seed effective and allowing our fids to enjoy the health benefits of those hot peppers. HOWEVER, has anyone ever experienced their bird responding to a hot pepper in a negative way? Lola (my 4 month old Zon) had her first Thai Chili Pepper today. She was very excite to try it out and carried it around until she finally managed to bite off the tip. Immediately after that bite, she dropped the pepper and began rubbing her beak on everything. She climbed her cage bars and rubbed her beak and tongue (yes..open mouth and all) on a fabric book. She seemed somewhat distressed and did NOT return for more pepper. Thoughts?
  8. I will be watching this thread...I have been looking for good rope as well. There is supposed to be someone in Tenn, not exactly local.
  9. I weighed my adult CAG yesterday....she went from 419 a couple months ago to 443. And I was worried she didn't like her pellets and wasn't eating!

They are adorable little birds, however, my only experience is working with a clutch this summer. My friend breeds them.

    The Nest

Thanks everyone. She is such a doll, not really a shoulder bird, so I was surprised she climbed up, but then I don't normally wear my hair down. I guess she couldn't resist. She is definitely a snuggler and I am taking advantage if that for sure!
  12. OH...I need one of those!
  13. Have to ask...what's a wacky whirly?
  14. Great idea! Told my son and now he is worried he might have to lock up his mic stand!!
  15. While I was hanging out with Lola and my son, Lola had other ideas......unfortunately making her way out was not quite as easy as getting in!
  16. So happy the transition is going well! Congratulations on a very handsome new addition.
  17. Tell your husband to get used to it....my fids eat better than the rest as well. Goes with the territory. Now, if my family was more interested in veggies and mash.........
  18. Good to see you back. Darwin looks like very happy little boy!
  19. I buy mine in the organic section at my local Publix grocery store.
  20. That IS an expensive toy. Bummer.
  21. I have been a standing member of this club since Shadow first came to live with us. However, I have avoided a bite for quite some time. I have been using a stick to move Shadow around and she has been very happy to comply. Until today....I swear she was possessed. LOL Her level of determination was rather humorous especially since I no longer take her advances personally. I was on the phone with the insurance company working on a new policy when Shadow in typical fashion came down off her cage and marched herself toward me...I presume she was after my orange toes. I offered her her step up stick, she complied and I relocated her. This went on 3-4 more times before she actually got close enough to my toes that I felt her brush against my foot. Again I had her step up on her stick and moved her back to her perch. I could tell she was getting frustrated as this time, she bit the stick before she stepped off. We continued this game as I was still trying to confirm my new insurance without too much fussing over the antics of my bird. Shadow was simply determined to get me. Luckily the agent put me on hold just before the final step up when, as I stood up with Shadow on her stick, she marched herself to the end of the stick and chomped down on my thumb...I promptly dropped the stick and she went flying. I am sure this was not the best response but sometimes reflexes take over. My son, easily retrieved her with a step up to his hand everything went back to normal. Somehow I feel like I was stuck in the twilight zone with my darling little grey monster! Gotta love that grey.
  22. Very pretty. I am looking forward to stories and more pictures. Rocky really is a ham!
  23. We LOVE wacky mac! Humans and fids alike, although the humans prefer it cooked. LOL
