I used a spring latch (like one would use on a rabbit cage) on the upper swinging door. Funny that Shadow had lived in this cage all her life and no one mentioned she could get out! We had to discover that on our own and promptly installed the spring latch. Never had any trouble with the feed doors, just to upper door that had no bowl. Best of luck with you fabulous find!

Luvparrots...Do yo have a good source for freeze dried??

Love the idea of a crazy headband or hat..maybe a propeller beanie! LOL In all seriousness, it is a good idea!

Hello! She may be doing it because she likes it, but are you sure you are ignoring her when she does it? My CAG occasionally gets on a roll and will scream 3-4 times. We COMPLETELY ignore her no sound from me and I do not even look in her direction. After the 3rd or 4th time, she generally calls out soulfully "Hellooo?" and then I call back to her. Asking what she needs or simply responding back. I have realized she does it most when she thinks she has been neglected. My Zon on the other hand will scream just for the joy of the scream!!

Thought I missed something...I'm not sure the photos were up when I first saw this post. That is an interesting observation Jayd....looks that way to me also.....good looking bird either way!

Why do our sweet babies have to grow up and go through the "stinker" stage! So sorry Jeff. I understand how you must feel, my Lola is a hands off kind of girl and I too wait for the day that kisses may be off limits. What is it they say...this too shall pass?? Hoping for you it passes quickly, although it is funny that she has such a great sense of humor.

Welcome and congratulations on your new addition. I rehomed my first bird, a CAG last fall and my life has not been the same! I had no idea how much I would love her or how much of a challenge she would be at times. My advice is to keep reading the threads, I especially enjoyed the "Bite Me" thread as it should me that often what I was experiencing was normal or even way better than what others have experienced. I suppose there is truth to the old addage that misery loves company. The folks here are great. Be patient Grey time functions on a completely different clock. Best of luck as you begin your journey!

Don't take it personally. I think change is to be expected and unfortunately, that often means things become more difficult. I believe that as our fids mature and become more confident, they will push buttons. Of course they generally get the biggest response from the most negative behaviors. If you think about it, how many times do we go running to them or frantically offer a distraction, when they are being good? BUT...as soon as they misbehave, we are all over it. Lola (my Amazon) is now 7 months and I have definitely seen a change in her confidence level as well. Caging has become more of a challenge for us too. I have begun to give her 3 chances, with verbal instruction if she still flies away and acts uncooperative , I simply pick her up and place her in her cage. You are not alone, frustrated maybe, but definitely NOT alone. I suspect things may get worse before they get better but in the big picture, this is just a small blip on the Grey timeline.

Beautiful color on that baby! Congratulations...I am looking forward to watching her grow.

YAY for you and Clarice!! I have been wondering where you were. You have been busy!! I second Dan's response.

I have 3 HQ cages and have enjoyed them very much. No complaints here.

It is good to see you back. Dr. Pepperberg and Alex were quite a team.

Congratulations Dee!!

It seems things are always trial and error with these guys! They often like something one day and not the next, but keep trying. Grapes do not have very much value and should only be given once in a while. The same for white potatoes. Sweet Potatoes and broccoli are both very good. There is a ton of info on the food thread. Sometimes it is simply a matter of a texture preference or size..so chop, dice, steam and serve raw but keep trying!

Hello and welcome! My CAG likes to get on the floor also, but it is not the best/safest place for her and she likes to chew up my cabinets so, whenever she hops down there, I simply have her step up and I relocate her to a more appropriate place. As I reread your post, I did notice that there seemed to be a piece of this behavior that was specifically focused on you. I am certainly no expert, but fro personal experience, I do understand how a behavior can be focused on one individual. It sounds to me like maybe Buddy has chosen your wife as his favorite and unfortunately, you might be second best. Shadow would never dream of biting my husband...he is her favorite. On the other hand, she does not hesitate to waltz over to my toes for a quick bite! As a result, I am extra vigilant about keeping her off the floor. I hope this helps...Grey behavior keeps us all on our toes!! Best of luck in your journey with Buddy. Keep us posted on how things work out.

We love cuties! Actually, my girls are a bit spoiled. We received some fresh oranges recently only 2 days off the tree....delicious! Now they probably won't touch a store bought cutie.

Oh my gosh...that is sweet! Bless you for taking him in!

Go Rocky go! oops...I meant Fly Rocky fly!!

Welcome back! My Lola (Panama Amazon) just turned 7 months. No real talking yet, although she does repeat a few sounds that she knows well. She also enjoys a good primal scream a few times a day! Zons are such joyous birds, and have such a love of life...but, one does need to have an appreciation for all that drama! Not a day goes by that she doesn't make me smile!
