  1. what happens after you put her in a cage? do you cover the cage at night? maybe put her in your bedroom with you to relive the anxiety she is having.

toon sounds would be cool but having a parrot sing "its a small world" would send me to the loony bin.
  3. yea he is pretty and is really quiet. he gets a little chirpy in the morning and thats it. he will let women pet him through the bars, if a male tries it he will nip, however if i open the cage and put my hand in to take him out he will chirp and happily get on my finger. weird... when he is out you need to go slow around him, any fast moves like somebody putting their hand up to pet or to step up will be greeted with a scream and flutter off to the floor. he will talk when nobody is around. i wsa in the the computer room for a couple of hours and heard him say pretty bird a few times. only has happened once.
  4. nice cage. and good repourpose of a dog run. For me i would add a second door for piece of mind. with my luck i could see me opening the door and having a bird fly out faster than i could react.
  5. what was your source for the java wood?
  6. good idea but $24.00??? i dont think so. here is what i bought for my grey. http://www.amazon.com/Cuisipro-Stainless-Steel-Measuring-Spoon/dp/B00004SU1I
  7. i have one of those open top cages and honestly i never use it. it scares me that something would happen to the perch that hold them open and crushes the bird as it crashes close. the playtop you chose is a much more practical and safer choice. **edit. use it meaning i never open the top. the front of the cage has a "porch" that when opened folds down so its like a little perch. i just open that and all is good.
  8. lady up the street called and asked if we would be interested in thier senegal. I have been around merlin a few times and other than not likeing men so much he is a cool bird. he does not fly at all. guess he never learned, his winga have never been clipped. he is 20 years old and in good health. so we said we would on a 1 week trial. I wanted to see make sure that Luna our Grey would not freak. well that was a month ago and we decided to keep Merlin. Luna hangs out on top of his cage from time to time and we never let them out of their cage at the same time. when luna is on his cage merlin will go over and give her the stink eye and thats it. I will say its fun and still nerve racking to take merlin outside on my shoulder.
  9. noodle. lol love that name.
  10. pics or it didnt happen... just kidding. the other night i had luna on my shoulder and she was nibbling my ear, and to be honest it felt kinda good. well i had to get up to get more tea and took her off my shoulder. i see her beak is red... wtf. my wife is sitting next to me and i ask her to look at my ear, she does and freaks out. WHAT DID SHE DO TO YOUR EAR!!!! so im like oh crap, i put her in her cage and go to the bathroom. my ear looks like it was butcherd. covered in blood!!! my wife cleaned it up and saw two puncture holes in the the folds of my ear.... i didnt feel a thing!!!
  11. thanks for the reminder, i have not put the harness on luna for a couple of weeks. i need to tonight.
  12. TWIX, if you want a bird now get one, do whats best for you and your wife but please stay away from wild caughts. Its just bad karma to deal in that trade. I was given a wild caught orange wing zon who was 30+ years old. he was a vicious bird and i have scars on my hand where he attacked for no reason. you could be petting him through the bar and he would have his eyes shut enjoying it and BAM he would turn into a feathered pit bull and try to bit your finger off.
  13. i would get a cage with a grate. that would do wonders in getting her out of "nesting" material. are you sure your bird is only 2? she looks and behaves much older than 2, and are you sure your bird is not a breeder bird?
  14. thats great. i needed that tonight, its 1am and im trying to fix a broken server at work....
  15. man i got a pile of flagstone in my back yard. time to take a trip to lowes to get a few bolts/washers and wingnuts.
  16. thats a cool story with a great visual.
  17. me playing with luna just before bedtime. t
  18. hi all. i borrowed the FLIR (forward looking infrared) camera from work and took a few pics of Luna. the temperature in upper left is displaying what the circle in the middle is focused on. its interesting the difference in temp from the eye, to the skin around the eye and the cheek which has feathers. a parrots normal body temp is 105 degrees. a lot of people dont know this. disregard the date in the upper right, its wrong and too lazy to change it on the camera. anyway i thought i would share.
  19. if you can post a vid of it. mine made those pant/grunt sounds kinda like what a puppy makes but without hearing it or seeing her behavior its hard for any of us to give you advice.
  20. a small mixed dog. i guess he is a mix of anybody guess. ill post a pic when i get home.
  21. this 100% 5 months old should not be any issue. but i am confused the bird is 5 months and the person you are getting her from is not the breeder?
  22. sorry for the low quality. when i stood up to get a better angle she would stop so i had to film her sitting from my chair. she is wanting out of her cage but she is not getting out, it was 10pm and bedtime plus she was out nearly all day. anyway here is luna she is almost 7 months old. at 1.30 is when she barks. the bird you hear chirping/spazzing out is our parakeet.
  23. totally normal i think they look like baby penguins when they are like that. ill have to post a pic of luna just before i cover her up she is one big puff ball. on a side note, i would be careful with that suction cup perch you have. ive read on other forums where people have used them like in the shower, and the suction cups fail. bird cant fly to catch themselves from falling and end up with a broken leg from hitting the shower floor. just something to be aware of.
